Teacher accused of molesting 16-year-old student with disability

The Star20 hours ago
SEREMBAN: A 16-year-old female student with an intellectual disability has alleged that a teacher molested her at a school in Rembau on May 5.
Rembau police chief Supt Hasani Hussain said the student, who is enrolled in the Integrated Special Education Programme (PPKI), lodged a report at 5.15pm on Saturday (July 5), alleging she was molested by a 36-year-old male teacher around 10.40am.
Initial investigations revealed the incident occurred after the student had completed a cross-country run and was experiencing leg pain.
He said the student initially confided in a friend and later informed another teacher about the incident on June 30.
The suspect, detained around 10pm on Saturday night, has denied the allegation. The case is still under investigation under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017. - Bernama

Retired Bank Manager Loses RM680,000 In Phone Scam

GEORGE TOWN, July 7 (Bernama) -- An elderly retired bank manager lost RM680,781 after falling victim to a phone scam syndicate posing as cybersecurity officers and police. Penang deputy police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the 80-year-old lodged a report at the Timur Laut Commercial Crime Investigation Division after realising he had been scammed. On June 12, the victim received a call from someone claiming to be from 'Cyber Security Putrajaya,' who said his phone number had been blacklisted for allegedly spreading false information. The call was then transferred to a supposed police officer from the Alor Setar Police Station, who claimed the victim's bank account was involved in money laundering. 'To clear his name and avoid arrest, the victim was instructed to open two new bank accounts. Between June 19 and 23, he transferred a total of RM680,781 into those accounts. 'The scammer also told him to place his ATM and credit cards, along with bank documents, into an envelope and leave it on a Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) electrical box near a bank in Tanjung Bunga,' he said in a statement today. On June 26, after checking his accounts, the victim discovered that all the money had been transferred to unknown third-party accounts. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for fraud. -- BERNAMA

Three held for selling fake medical certificates

SUNGAI PETANI: Three men have been arrested on suspicion of being masterminds in the sale of fake medical certificates (MCs) in the district over the past two years. Kuala Muda district police chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan said the group's modus operandi involved issuing MCs without the need for any medical consultation or treatment. He said the case came to light during a probe into a breach of integrity involving a low-ranking police personnel who had frequently submitted MCs. 'This led to the discovery of the group selling fake MCs,' he told a press conference at the Kuala Muda district police headquarters here yesterday. He said during a raid on a premises in Taman Songket Indah near here on June 26, police seized various items including about 20 fake MCs, tablets, rubber stamps bearing the names of doctors, A4-sized paper, a laptop and a printer, Bernama reported. He said the three unemployed suspects, in their 30s and 40s, allegedly sold fake MCs for RM25 to RM30, targeting civil servants as their primary 'customers'. The main suspect was found to be a heart patient currently receiving treatment at a hospital, he added. 'During each hospital visit, the suspect would note down the attending doctor's name and later use it on rubber stamps. 'Most of the names were those of actual doctors, but the job titles were inaccurate,' ACP Hanyan said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 468 of the Penal Code.

ALOR SETAR - A family of six, including a six-month-old baby, are feared missing after their family members lost contact with them since Saturday. The disappearance of Mohd Azim Ezzat Ishak, 32, his wife Nurul Hidayah Khalijah Razman Effendy, 31, and their four children, aged between six months and nine years, was realised when they did not return to their home in Jerlun after spending the night at another family member's house in Taman Aman, Jitra. According to Azim's younger sister, Nur Adliah Shuhada, in her 20s, her brother's family usually spent the night at her house on Fridays. "I thought they had returned to Jerlun because my brother, who works as a security guard, usually leaves early in the morning and my sister-in-law runs a business. But when my brother's mother-in-law called and said they hadn't arrived home, I started to worry and tried to contact them but failed. "Then I received information about a Proton Saga car in Sungai Korok (in Jitra), but the licence plate number did not match my brother's car," she said here. Adliah said that a police report has been lodged at the Jitra Police Station regarding the disappearance of her brother and his family. "I also posted about their disappearance on Facebook, and as of 10:30 pm tonight, they still haven't been located," she added.
