Maharashtra ATS Arrests Pune Man For Alleged Links With Naxalites

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Sunday arrested a 44-year-old man in Raigad district for his alleged links with Naxalites, police said.
Prashant Jalinder Kamble, alias Laptop, was wanted since 2011 in connection with an 'Urban Naxal" case, an official said.
Milind Teltumbde, a senior leader of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) who was killed in an encounter with security forces in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district two years ago, and top 'Maoist" Angela Sontakke were also named in the 2011 FIR.
According to ATS officials, Kamble had been hiding in the Khopoli area of Raigad district, where he used to teach tribal children, for the past six to seven years, he said.
Kamble, a resident of the Tadiwala Road area in Pune, used to repair computers and laptops. He came in contact with the Kabir Kala Manch, a cultural group that has faced allegations of links to Naxalism, said the official.
The official said Kamble left home in 2010, claiming he was going to Mumbai for work, but never returned. He and one Santosh Shelar, also missing from Pune, subsequently became active members of the CPI (Maoist) in the jungles of Gadchiroli.
In January 2024, Santosh Shelar returned to his home in Pune in a sick condition, where he was arrested by the ATS.
Officials said Kamble is a 'high-value" target and called him a hardcore follower of Naxalite ideology.
After the 2011 case, Kamble was declared absconding by the court, and a non-bailable warrant and proclamation were issued against him, he said.
Based on specific information, the Pune unit of the ATS nabbed Kamble from Khopoli, the official said. After verification, he was placed under arrest, he said.
Kamble was produced in a Mumbai court, which remanded him in the custody of the ATS till May 13, he said.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has chargesheeted five Maoist operatives in connection with the February 2024 Chhattisgarh arms recovery case, an official statement issued on Saturday said. The counter-terror agency had earlier in August 2024 chargesheeted two armed cadres -- Vinod Awalam and Ashu Korsa -- of the CPI (Maoist). The NIA investigations revealed that Anish Khan had supplied explosives substances to the CPI (Maoist) cadres in the forest area of Aalparas village which were later recovered. "The other accused chargesheeted today had provided shelter and logistics support to the Maoist cadres for carrying out a fatal attack on security forces around Mujalgondi village in Kanker district," the statement said. The investigations in the case are continuing as part of the NIA's efforts to scuttle the Maoist outfit's terror agenda, it added. Six Naxals arrested, explosives seized in Chhattisgarh
Agency: Sukma, Aug 2 (PTI) Six Naxalites have been arrested from Sukma and Bijapur districts of Chhattisgarh, police said on Saturday. Podiyam Nanda (40) who carried a reward of Rs 2 lakh on his head, Hemla Joga (28), and Hemla Ganga (45) were arrested and explosives were seized from them in Sukma district on Friday, a senior police official said. They were apprehended from a forest in Rabdipara village under the Kerlapal police station limits during an anti-Naxal operation of the District Reserve Guard (DRG), local police and 159th battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Nanda was active as a militia commander under Kerlapal Area Committee of the outlawed Maoist organization while the other two were its members, the official said. Two `tiffin-bombs' weighing 3 kg each, three detonators, two gelatin rods, cordex wires, electric fuse wires and two batteries were recovered from them, he added. In Bijapur district, three lower-rung Maoist cadres, identified as Sukki Hemla (50), Soma Uika (35) and Kallu Hapka (22), were apprehended on Saturday from a forest between Peddakorma and Bodla-Pusnar villages under the Bijapur police station limits, another police official said. The DRG, local police, along with 222nd battalion of CRPF, as well as 201st and 202nd battalions of CRPF's elite Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) were out on an operation in the area, he added. Maoist uniforms, Naxal literature, a colour printer machine and other items were recovered from their possession, he said. The trio were involved in a gunfight with security forces on July 29 in the forest of Peddakorma-Bodla-Pusnar villages of the district, the official added.
