Back to school tablet deals — 7 deals I'd shop from $209 on iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Microsoft Surface and more

If a laptop just isn't your style, you'll want to shop these deals on some of the best tablets before you head back to school or college. These slates offer a more flexible, portable experience than a laptop — and often at a lower price, too.
For starters, right now you can get our favorite tablet ever, the 11-inch iPad Air M3 (Wi-Fi/256GB) on sale for $499 at Amazon ($100 off.) This device delivers the full package, with a lightweight design, blazing-fast performance, and 10-hour battery life.
Or, you can currently get the Samsung Galaxy S6 Lite (Wi-Fi/64GB) on sale for $209 at Amazon ($120 off.) This one is especially tempting because it comes with an S Pen stylus, making it perfect for note-taking and drawing.
Keep scrolling to see the tablet deals I recommend. Plus, see our Amazon promo codes coverage and check out the Skechers deals I'd shop from $22 at Amazon.
Looking for an affordable, lightweight Android tablet that doesn't skimp on screen size? Samsung's Galaxy Tab S6 Lite certainly fits the bill. The Tab S6 Lite boasts a crisp 10.4-inch display and comes with an S Pen in the box, making it ideal for those who want to sketch or take notes on the go.
The 2025 iPad features a larger 11-inch (2360 x 1640) screen, A16 CPU, 12MP rear/front cameras, USB-C connectivity, and Magic Keyboard Folio ($249) support. The base model features 128GB of storage, which doubles the capacity of its predecessor. It's available in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB capacities.
This one's for the artists (and doodlers) out there. TCL's NXTPAPER 14 is now $20 off, and it offers a 14.3-inch 2.4K paper-like display that works great when used with the T-Pen stylus (that's sold separately). But it also delivers great image quality for watching shows or scrolling through the web in regular mode. Whether you're a student or artist, this is a great bet.
It's only recently released, but the fantastic Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE is already $50 off! Not a bad price for a mid-range tablet that comes with an S Pen stylus, a splendid (and larger) 13.1-inch LCD panel and a 15-hour battery life. This is great value for money!
The 2025 iPad Air packs Apple's M3 processor, an 11-inch LED (2360 x 1640) display, 128GB of storage, a 12MP rear camera and a new landscape-oriented 12MP front camera. You also get faster Wi-Fi 6E support. In our iPad Air 2025 review, we said it brings impressive performance and power efficiency to a premium, sleek package.
The 11-inch iPad Pro packs Apple's latest M4 processor paired with a stunning 11-inch Tandem OLED (2420 x 1668) display. The new M4 processor features 9 CPU cores and 10 GPU cores. In our iPad Pro 2024 review, we said it could very well be the most stunning tablet ever made.
Our Microsoft Surface Pro Copilot Plus review called this "the best Surface in years." It's powered by a speedy Snapdragon X Elite processor and also packs a gorgeous display, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. It's super thin and light and also has great battery life — our unit lasted over 12 hours in our battery life tests.

Tim Cook reportedly tells employees Apple ‘must' win in AI

Apple CEO Tim Cook held an hourlong all-hands meeting in which he told employees that the company needs to win in AI, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The meeting came after an earnings call in which Cook told investors and analysts that Apple would 'significantly' increase its AI investments. It seems he had a similar message for Apple employees, reportedly telling them, 'Apple must do this. Apple will do this. This is sort of ours to grab.' Despite launching a variety of AI-powered features in the past year under the Apple Intelligence umbrella, the company's promised upgrades to its voice assistant Siri have been significantly delayed. And Cook seemed to acknowledge that the company has fallen behind its competitors. 'We've rarely been first,' he reportedly said. 'There was a PC before the Mac; there was a smartphone before the iPhone; there were many tablets before the iPad; there was an MP3 player before iPod.' But in his telling, that didn't stop Apple from inventing the 'modern' versions of those products. iPhone Fold leaker just spilled the beans on screen sizes — and it's worse than we thought

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. If rumors are to be believed, Apple will finally dive into the foldable phone market in 2026 with the much-rumored iPhone Fold. Rumors have been all over the place when it comes to the the screen size of this unreleased device, but seemed to have settled on around 7.7 inches for the interior panel. That claim was backed up today (July 25) by regular leaker Digital Chat Station, who posted on Weibo that the iPhone Fold would feature a 7.7-inch unfolded screen and a cover display of 5.49-inches. This isn't the first time Digital Chat Station has made that claim, previously saying it came from an iPhone Fold prototype. "The screen size of the first foldable iPhone has been revealed," DCS said in this most recent machine-translated post. "5.5-inch outer screen + 7.7-inch inner screen." They added that the current prototype has shrunk a bit from the February version. It's an iota smaller than recent rumors that had the device featuring a 7.8-inch internal display, similar to numbers from Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who reported the same measurements back in March. Kuo also believes the phone will measure between 9 and 9.5mm thick when folded and 4 and 4.5mm when opened. Small screen compared to rivals While thin, the iPhone Fold would be thicker than the Galaxy Z Fold 7 which measures 4.2mm when unfolded and 8.9mm closed. If those numbers are true it would additionally make Apple's device smaller than a number of the best foldable phones available including Samsung's newly released Fold, which features an 8-inch unfolded screen and a 6.5-inch exterior display. The upcoming Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold — which we're expecting to see at Google's August 20 event — is supposed to feature a 6.4-inch exterior display while retaining the same 8-inch inner screen as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The Oppo Find N5 features a huge 8.12-inch inner display alongside a 6.62-inch front screen. iPad-esque The iPhone Fold's smaller screen may not be a deal breaker, as rumors hint that Apple is looking for customized display ratio of 4:3, similar to the iPad. This would make the foldable iPhone more familiar to Apple fans who have used iPads before. Plus, Apple is reportedly developing iOS 27 for foldable phones which takes inspiration from the latest version of iPadOS. Apple is years behind its rivals when it comes to foldable phones, but the company is allegedly obsessed with only releasing one once a creaseless display was possible. Reportedly, that finally became possible thanks to a partnership with Samsung Display.
