Texas A&M baseball loses another key player for the rest of the 2025 season
Texas A&M baseball suffered another major blow to its bullpen with the news that Josh Stewart would not return this season.
On Thursday, Aggie head coach Michael Earley broke the news that Stewart would not see the field again in 2025 and could possibly need surgery on his knee.
"I think Stewart, we are probably moving towards the surgery route...He won't pitch this season."
Veteran relief pitcher Stewart was expected to step up and guide the relief corps this year. However, hopes were dashed when Stewart left the mound in visible discomfort after facing just one batter, raising concerns about his readiness moving forward.
Stewart proved instrumental in the Aggies' memorable postseason run, finishing the year with solid stats. 2-2 record, 39 strikeouts, and a solid 4.26 ERA across 25 relief appearances. His presence provided stability and confidence on the mound, making his departure a difficult moment for the Aggies.
The Aggies nation wishes Stewart a swift recovery and eagerly anticipates his return to action, where his veteran leadership and pitching prowess can once again shine.
Texas A&M will travel to face Tennessee on Friday, April 4, at 6:00 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed on SEC Network+.

Rivals ranks Texas A&M has one of 20 'July recruiting winners'
Texas A&M's 2026 recruiting success this summer has only been matched by several programs, as the future is set at several positions, including running back, after landing four-star Jonathan Hatton and four-star KJ Edwards, who are both considered elite and future stars. Since June, 16 of the program's 27 commits chose the Aggies, led by five-stars Brandon Arrington, Tristian Givens, and Bryce Perry-Wright. Arrington, who will play cornerback at the next level, chose Texas A&M over Oregon in the final stretch of his recruitment. He is considered the best athlete in the class, while Givens and Perry-Wright are considered two of the top pass rushers, who, outside of NIL, felt Mike Elko and defensive line coaches Tony Jerod-Eddie and Sean Spencer's development background on the defensive line, paired with the program's history in the trenches, was too much to pass up. On offense, Elko, OC Collin Klein, and WR coach Holmon Wiggins have locked down wide receivers Aaron Gregory, Madden Williams, and Mike Brown. At the same time, four-star Jace Mathews, who will announce his commitment on Friday, is another name to watch. Texas A&M's tight end future also looks secured with four-star Caleb Tafua, while TE coach Christian Ellsworth beat out Notre Dame and Iowa State for Waukee, Iowa, native and four-star Evan Jacobson. Last week, Rivals writer Adam Gorney ranked its ten "July recruiting winners," including Texas A&M, which is no surprise given what we just discussed above. Texas A&M's 2026 class is currently ranked 3rd nationally, and unless Elko and his staff pull off one or two more commitments or flips, this will likely be the final ranking by the time we reach Early Signing Day on December 4. Texas A&M senior cornerback is looking healthy and back to form this preseason
It can't be overemphasized how vital Texas A&M's cornerback rotation will be to the program's success during the 2025 season, headlined by he return of senior Will Lee III, and Georgia transfer Julian Humphrey, who is considered the fastest player on the roster. However, senior cornerback Tyreek Chappell could be the x-factor in the Aggies' improving substantially in the secondary. While it wasn't all bad, the 2024 cornerback group was patched together in the offseason ahead of head coach Mike Elko's first season, which includes BJ Mayes, who became one of the more reliable corners late in the season, but has since moved on to the NFL after running out of eligibility. The underrated storyline was the early loss of Tyreek Chappell, which hurt the Aggies in the middle of the field at the nickel spot. Early in the offseason, it was reported that Chappell was set to return for a final season. While he wasn't completely healed until the summer, the Philadelphia native looks like his old self during the first week/weekend of preseason practice, which was highlighted during a one-on-one matchup with Mississippi State transfer WR Mario Craver. Craver is considered one of the fastest receivers on the roster, and while he did make the completion, Chappell went stride for stride with the transfer wideout, which is great to see with the 2025 season opener vs. UTSA just a mere 26 days away. After recording three tackles before missing the rest of the 2024 campaign, Chappell has been one of Texas A&M's most reliable and versatile cornerbacks, netting 106 tackles, two interceptions, and 23 pass deflections during his first three seasons. Washington transfer CB Jordan Shaw has been battling with Chappell this preseason for the starting nickel spot, but it's been rumored that Chappell has taken the lead and is expected to win the job. Five-star safety from Omaha excited about relationship with Nebraska football
One of the top recruits in the state of Nebraska is impressed by the Huskers' recent recruiting efforts. Omaha Central safety Tory Pittman III told KETV that Nebraska is the one school that has caught his eye. Pittman recently earned his fifth recruiting star. The class of 2027 recruit is the No. 1 prospect in the state of Nebraska and the No. 1 safety in the nation, according to the 247Sports Composite score. "From the jump, they tried to get to know me as a person. Coach Matt Rhule has stayed in constant communication since my eighth-grade year when they first offered me." The recruit has played both safety and wide receiver for the Eagles. In his first season, Pittman totaled 34 tackles and two interceptions and caught three passes for 70 yards in eight games. This past year, he racked up 54 tackles and three interceptions and hauled in 26 catches for 458 yards and five touchdowns in 10 games. Nebraska's class of 2027 holds one commitment.
