Silentnight's £20 summer double duvet is 'perfect for warmer nights'
Many of us will have been struggling to sleep in the hot weather recently. Brits have been enjoying a prolonged period of sizzling heat, but with warm days comes warm nights, which can wreak havoc with our chance at a good kip.
There are many ways we can help ourselves drift into the land of nod, such as winding down with a book instead of doom-scrolling at night, or drinking a relaxing tea instead of watching the TV. Bedwear can help massively, too.
Luckily, Silentnight has stepped in with a budget-friendly and extremely well-rated Summer Double Duvet which promises to cool you down and give you a restful sleep - and it is down 10 per cent to just £20.69 on Amazon.
The duvet, slashed from its original price of £22.99, is hypoallergenic, machine washables, and describes itself as "ideal for summer" with 4.5 tog that is "the optimal filling for keeping you cool throughout the warmer months".
Made in the UK to strict safety standards and with a five year manufacturer's guarantee, the standard double (size 200 x 200 cm) has gone down a treat with customers, who have given it a stellar 4.6 out of 5 rating on Amazon.
Alternatively, if you want to shop around a bit before committing, the Fogarty Duck Feather and Down 4.5 Tog Summer Duvet from Dunelm starts at £32, while Marks and Spencer's Comfortably Cool 3 Tog Duvet starts at £30.
Praising the Summer Double Duvet, one shopper said: "Very favourable price. The duvet is perfect, it is soft to touch and light.
"The delivery took just a matter of days and arrived in good condition. Very happy indeed."
Another raved: "This duvet is perfect for the warmer nights, enough to keep you warm but cool enough I don't have to throw it off me. Nice and light but still has the cosy feel."
However, some opinions about the thickness of the product were mixed, with some finding it too thin, while others thought it was too warm.
One sleeper commented: "The duvet is well made, comfortable and good value for money. However, whilst it is lightweight and thinner than our previous duvet, I've found it to be really hot."
A second chimed in: "Don't expect something thick and puffy. Quite thin. Other than that, no faults."
But others dubbed it "perfect". One person wrote: "I could not decide between a 7.5 or a 4.5 tog thinking the 4.5 might be too light, but it is perfect.
"It gives enough warmth to stave off the chill on a summers morning, but is not so hot that it makes us too hot during the night. I am more than pleased with the quality and have no hesitation in recommending it."

Gardeners growing one fruit urged to pick them on specific date
Gardening World presenter Monty Don recommends picking this one delicious berry at a particular time of year, otherwise you risk missing out on tasting it at its best There are few things more delicious or satisfying than tasting your own homegrown fruit – so don't delay picking this one popular berry at its peak. With the sun shining and the temperatures warming up, Brits are spending more time in their gardens. One popular activity is undoubtedly growing your own fruit. Not only is a great, wholesome activity that keeps you outdoors, it also comes with numerous other benefits. Growing your own fresh produce means you don't have to spray them with any of the nasty pesticides that are commonly found on store-bought fruits. This makes them healthier and also more ethical, as you aren't harming any wildlife. Equally, with supermarket prices having risen, it can also save you a lot of money too, as you have your own delicious ingredients growing right in your garden. Some popular fruits to grow in the UK include strawberries and raspberries, which are both incredibly versatile and which can be incorporated into many favourite desserts. However, gardening expert Monty Don admits he has a special penchant for raspberries. He writes in his blog: 'I would trade the very best strawberry for any raspberries and the summer fruiting varieties are at their best in July.' He explains that raspberries that ripen in summer carry their fruit on the canes that grew the previous year. This means that all the fresh growth made in the current year will crop next July. Meanwhile, other kinds of raspberries fruit in autumn instead, such as 'Autumn Bliss'. Instead, they produce their fruit on the new season's growth. Monty continues: 'There is a freshness and seasonal treat to the summer raspberries that makes them especially good and we often pick a bowl just before supper and eat with a little cream whilst they are still warm from the evening sun. Heaven!' If you're looking to spend extra time in your garden this month, Monty says there are other key tasks that are best completed in July. One of these includes cutting back hedges. While you may be tempted to trim hedges that have started to look unruly, it's best to wait until the end of July. This way, you will be less likely to disturb any nesting birds. This is because many birds in the UK like to build their nests in hedges. They offer them ample shelter and camouflage - which unfortunately also makes them difficult for gardeners to spot.

FYI: Crocs are up to 64% off right now on Amazon
When it comes to Crocs, you either love them or hate them. And those who fall in the former category are really devoted to them. As for those who aren't into plastic shoes? I was once on your side. Then, I had kids and realized they are the best shoes for toddlers. You can wipe them down if they get dirty, they're easy to put on and are supremely cushioned. Seeing the benefits for my kids made me want to try them myself. And guess what? I am a convert. While I draw the line at wearing them on social outings or to restaurants, I regularly rock my Crocs while gardening or even on errands to the grocery store. Other benefits to Crocs? They're roomy and good for those with wide feet and are also relatively affordable. And right now, that's even more true because Amazon has a bunch of styles for up to 64% off. Below, I've rounded up some of the best deals — check them out. Crocs deals on Amazon This unisex sandal has two straps that run across the top of the foot. The shoes are waterproof and designed to channel water away, according to the brand. This makes them an excellent option for the pool or beach. These sandals come in several colors, most of which are marked down to some degree, but the white/spray dye option is marked down the most at 64% off. The shoe that started it all, this is Crocs' classic clog. It has a back strap that can be folded to wear as a slide. Amazon has the slide available in over 20 colors, many of which are on sale. One of the best deals is for this Arctic color, which is 20% off. These clogs do run large, so it's advisable to size down, according to the brand. With a platform sole and deep treads, these Crocs have a trendier silhouette. They have an adjustable strap at the back for a more secure fit and ventilation ports where the upper meets the sole for breathability. Prefer a flip-flop style? This pair has a contoured footbed and is lightweight. The strap is made from a thick, soft plastic and they have holes to fit Jibbitz, small charms the brand sells to decorate your Crocs. The electric pink is the only color on sale. Expert warns holidaymakers of rising home break-ins this summer and how to deter burglars

Whilst many Brits prepare for a well-deserved holiday during the summer months, opportunistic burglars use this time to target empty homes. In 2023-2024, England and Wales recorded approximately 266,489 burglaries, an average of 730 break-ins each day. In fact, online interest in home security has also increased with phrases such as 'home security' being searched over 68,000 times a month. The term 'summer theft' has seen 8,000 searches in the last four weeks and 'home burglary' queries have surged by 58% this past month alone, reflecting growing public concern for safety. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad However, there are measures you can take to help keep your home safe, and give you peace of mind, this summer. Ana Zuravliova, Trend Specialist at Blinds Direct, has shared seven often overlooked tips on how to minimise the chances of a break-in. Create a 'lived-in' appearance with blinds and curtains 'A static window display with fully open blinds or permanently closed curtains signals to passers-by that no one is in. Homes left in this static state are far more likely to be targeted.' Solution: 'Set your blinds or curtains to a mid-point on the day you leave, this provides privacy while still letting in natural light. It avoids the starkness of a fully closed home but doesn't look frozen in time either. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'If possible, ask a neighbour to adjust them occasionally during your trip to simulate occupancy.' Don't have a house-sitter? Let electric blinds do the job 'Most of us don't have someone to manage our windows while we're away and blinds that never move can make a property look vacant.' Solution: ' Electric blinds can be programmed to open and close at specific times, mimicking real behaviour without needing anyone to lift a finger. 'These systems offer not only privacy but also replicate daily routines. Some even work via smartphone apps, meaning you can adjust your blinds from anywhere around the world.' Opt for windows and doors with enhanced security Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'Intruders target vulnerable locks, weak frames, or accessible windows.' Solution: 'To effectively secure your doors and windows from break-ins, focus on strengthening entry points with laminated glass, durable frames, and robust locking mechanisms. 'Laminated glass windows are a good deterrent against break-ins, as they are more robust and in turn, more difficult to break through than regular glass. The interlayer between the glass panes significantly resists impact and force, making it difficult for a burglar to enter. 'For locks, deadbolts are one of the most popular and effective types of burglarproof options. They extend a solid metal bolt into the door frame, providing an additional layer of security beyond most standard locksets. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'Opt for Secured by Design (SBD) doors and windows, accredited products that have been designed and manufactured to meet stringent security standards, backed by the police and designed to combat crime.' Timer controlled lighting 'A dark house during the evening is a sure sign that no one's in.' Solution: 'Use smart plugs or timer switches to set a few lamps to turn on and off at different intervals in the evening, replicating what someone might do naturally. For example, a hallway lamp at 6pm, and a living room light at 9pm. 'You don't need to light up the whole house, just create believable signals that someone's moving about indoors.' Enlist a trusted neighbour for routine checks Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'Lights and blinds can create the illusion of presence, but an unmoved car, unwatered plants or an overflowing letterbox can still reveal an empty home.' Solution: 'Ask a neighbour or friend to perform a few simple tasks; collect mail, water plants and park in your driveway occasionally. Even if they're only there for thirty minutes, the presence of a car can create a convincing facade that someone's at home.' Dummy cameras and small deterrents 'Unlocked garages, side doors or windows are prime entry points. But even visible deterrents can stop a thief in their tracks.' Solution: 'Install a dummy CCTV camera in a visible location. Pair it with a motion activated light and a clear alarm system sticker. These create enough doubt to make many burglars look elsewhere. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'Burglars are opportunists. If your house looks like it's under surveillance, they'll move to an easier target.' Be mindful of what you post 'Announcing your holiday plans, whether in person or online, can spread beyond trusted friends.' Solution: 'Avoid broadcasting details of your trip on social media. If you want to share holiday pictures, try and wait until you return.' These tips are all about one thing: creating the illusion of occupancy. From well-timed lighting to smarter blinds, it's often the subtle details that most convincingly say, 'someone's home'.
