Moushumi Chatterjee Calls Rajesh Khanna 'Anpadh Gunda'; Has 'Pity' For Amitabh Bachchan
Last Updated:
Moushumi Chatterjee compared Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna to goons.
Moushumi Chatterjee and Amitabh Bachchan, two stalwarts of Hindi cinema, have shared screen space in several memorable films, especially during the 1970s and 1980s. Their most notable collaborations include Benaam (1974), Manzil (1979), and Do Ladke Dono Kadke (1978). In a recent interview with Filmfare, the veteran actress reflected on Amitabh Bachchan's success and how he has managed to stay grounded despite being a superstar. She compared him to Rajesh Khanna, whom he claims had an inflated ego after reaching stardom.
Moushumi said, 'Amitabh Bachchan is a very intelligent man. He always uses politically right words. I sometimes pity him because I think most of the time he is only performing because that is all that he knows. I might be wrong, but that's how I feel about him. It is because of his image. He has a huge image, which nobody else has managed to achieve."
Comparing Rajesh Khanna with Amitabh Bachchan, Moushumi said, 'Amitabh has managed to stay grounded despite immense success. Something that Rajesh Khanna failed at. He was blown up with his success. As the saying goes: 'Ek anpadh gunda aur ek padhe likhe gunde mein bahaut farq hota hai' (There is always a difference between a literate and illiterate goon). I have never seen Amitabh Bachchan with flatterers. However, Rajesh Khanna was always surrounded by these people. He needed that attention and pampering."
Moushumi Chatterjee and Rajesh Khanna shared a memorable on-screen chemistry in several Hindi films during the 1970s and 80s. Their collaborations were known for emotional depth and strong performances. Notable films include Roti (1974), a dramatic action-thriller, and Prem Bandhan (1979), which explored love and identity with powerful intensity. In Tyaag (1977), they portrayed complex characters caught in moral dilemmas. Their pairing resonated with audiences, blending Moushumi's charm with Rajesh Khanna's superstar aura. Though not a frequent duo, their films together remain well-regarded, adding to the golden era of Hindi cinema with compelling narratives and enduring screen presence.
Years later, Moushumi Chatterjee and Amitabh Bachchan reunited on screen when the actress had a brief role in Piku. She praised Amitabh Bachchan in a recent interview with Nayandeep Rakshit and said, 'Amitabh Bachchan is really amazing. When I worked with him in Piku, he was so punctual. The younger generation needs to learn from him."
While not as frequently cast as some of his other co-stars, Moushumi Chatterjee and Amitabh Bachchan's collaborations remain cherished in the annals of classic Hindi cinema for their nuanced storytelling and compelling performances.

Not Khans, not Bachchan – Meet the 90s superstar who charged Rs 1.25 crore first: Chiranjeevi's unmatched rise and the legacy that rewrote stardom rules
Chiranjeevi While Shah Rukh Khan , Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan dominated Bollywood in the 90s, there was one name that had already revolutionised Indian cinema — and it didn't come from the Hindi film industry. Before the Khans or even Amitabh Bachchan entered the Rs 1 crore club, it was Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi who shattered the barrier and emerged as India's highest-paid actor of the decade. In 1992, The Week featured Chiranjeevi on its cover with the headline: "Bigger than Bachchan." At the time, he was reported to have commanded an unprecedented Rs 1.25 crore for his film Aapadbandhavudu, establishing a new financial benchmark in Indian cinema. According to the magazine, this placed him well ahead of other cinematic heavyweights like Rajinikanth, Sunny Deol, and Govinda — who were earning around Rs 50–60 lakh per film. The rise of a southern sensation Chiranjeevi's dominance didn't happen overnight. His consistent success in the Telugu film industry throughout the late 1980s and early 90s made him a household name across India. His magnetic screen presence, energetic dance moves, and mass appeal led to a streak of 14 consecutive hits in a single year, earning him the title: 'The New Money Machine' of Indian cinema. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Thị trường có dấu hiệu suy thoái không? As The Week noted, when Amitabh Bachchan took a break from films in the early 90s, Chiranjeevi stepped in as India's most bankable star — a groundbreaking feat for a non-Bollywood actor at the time. A legacy that changed the game Chiranjeevi's financial milestone redefined how stardom was measured in Indian cinema. His move to command Rs 1 crore per film inspired other legends like Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth to follow suit. Eventually, Bollywood caught up, with Amitabh Bachchan becoming the first Hindi actor to reach that salary tier after his return to films. By the late 90s, the Bollywood trio — Shah Rukh, Salman, and Aamir — began commanding Rs 2–3 crore per movie. But it was Chiranjeevi who laid the foundation for this new era of superstar earnings. Still a giant Having acted in more than 150 films, Chiranjeevi remains a revered icon. His tremendous success has translated into a phenomenal estimated net worth of Rs 1650 crore. As an actor, producer, and philanthropist, his influence continues to shape Indian entertainment and inspire generations of stars to come.

Mona Singh's drastic physical transformation to play Aamir Khan's mother in Laal Singh Chaddha: 'Had to lose all that weight and look fragile
We, as viewers, don't know what goes on behind the camera. What is presented to us as a 2 or 3-hour-long movie requires months, if not years, of assiduous effort and often proves to be a debilitating experience for the cast involved. Mona Singh, who initially rose to fame with Sony Entertainment Television's Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin, has established herself as a versatile actress. She is a household name, thanks to her prolific roles in TV shows and Bollywood movies. In a recent interview, Mona talked about her experience starring in the film Laal Singh Chaddha and why it is one of the most 'challenging' roles she has ever taken up. Her character demanded to 'put on and lose weight in stages.' Mona Singh's Demanding Role in Laal Singh Chaddha The 2022 Hindi language film Laal Singh Chaddha starring Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan in the main roles, is an adaptation of the 1994 blockbuster Forrest Gump. In the movie, Aamir's character Lal Singh, a man with a low IQ, overcomes formidable hardships to reunite with his childhood sweetheart Rupa (Kareena Kapoor Khan). Mona Singh played the character of Gurpreet Kaur, Lal Singh's mother, and did an exceptional job. However, what makes this experience particularly unforgettable for Mona Singh is the complications that came with it. The 43-year-old actress didn't shy away from sharing that her profession is 'demanding,' not only physically but also mentally. She mentions that even though every role she portrays 'comes with its own set of challenges,' Laal Singh Chaddha takes the cake. For this movie, she had to undergo extreme physical transformations, gaining and losing weight constantly to portray the different ages of her movie character. In the first half, she remained thin to portray a young Gurpreet Kaur. In the second half, she had to put on significant weight to portray the character in her 40s in a realistic manner. And towards the end, she had to drop all the weight to look 'fragile." For Mona, the most difficult aspect of her career is 'constantly shifting between roles, absorbing energies, and navigating public life.' She advises creating boundaries to protect peace and switching off the mind at times to help it recover. The actress mentions that her friends and family have helped her feel rejuvenated and connected with herself. Mona is currently juggling between her acting career and her entrepreneurial journey. She is a foodie and has recently ventured into business with her restaurant Kona Kona to celebrate India's 'culinary landscape.' Apart from that, she has some interesting upcoming projects lined up, including Aryan Khan's directorial debut Stardom.
