Kargil Vijay Diwas: Punjab CM Mann pays tributes to soldiers

Chandigarh, Jul 26 (PTI) Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann paid tributes to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the 1999 Kargil conflict on the 26th anniversary of the Kargil Vijay Diwas on Saturday.
'We salute the valour and sacrifice of all the brave soldiers who wrote an unparalleled chapter of bravery in the 1999 Kargil War. Their spirit and courage will always be remembered," said Mann in a post in Punjabi.
The chief minister also laid a wreath at the War Memorial at the Bougainvillea Garden here and saluted the brave soldiers who laid their lives during the Kargil war.
Minister of Defence Services Welfare and Freedom Fighters Mohinder Bhagat was also present on the occasion.
On July 26, 1999, the Indian Army announced the successful culmination of 'Operation Vijay", declaring victory after a nearly three-month-long battle on the icy heights of Kargil in Ladakh.
The day is observed as Kargil Vijay Diwas to commemorate India's victory over Pakistan in the war. PTI CHS RHL

Posters banning entry of AAP leaders appear in Ludhiana villages
In a sharp escalation of protests against the Punjab government's land pooling policy, villagers from Malak, Aligarh, Pona, and Agwar Gujaran in Jagraon constituency, Ludhiana district, have banned the entry of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders into their villages. On Sunday evening, flex posters in Punjabi were pasted at the entrance roads of all four villages. Featuring photos of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, the posters read: 'Bhagwant Mann Bhajao, Punjab Bachao' and 'Kejriwal Bhajao, Zamin Bachao' and declared: 'There is a strict ban on the entry of any AAP leader into the village until the land pooling policy is revoked.' Issued in the name of the 'Zamin Bachao, Punjab Bachao Sangharsh Committee', the posters reflect growing grassroots anger against the government's urban development plans. Villagers said the move follows weeks of village meetings, protest rallies, and warnings to AAP leaders not to promote the contentious policy. Didar Singh of Malak village said, 'We had passed a resolution against land pooling and submitted it to the GLADA office. Now the time has come to intensify our protest. This struggle must be fought from our villages—not at Delhi borders or elsewhere.' Nirbhai Singh, former sarpanch of Aligarh, added, 'The message is loud and clear—no AAP leader is welcome anymore.' Residents also said AAP supporters in these villages have been warned not to promote the scheme. The land pooling policy seeks to acquire over 65,000 acres across 164 villages, including more than 24,000 acres in Ludhiana district. Farmers fear permanent loss of ancestral lands and livelihoods, fuelling protests in agriculturally rich areas. Statewide agitation is set to intensify, with Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) Punjab and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) planning tractor marches at village and tehsil levels on July 30, a motorcycle rally by KMM on August 11, and mahapanchayats in Jalandhar (August 20) and Mullanpur (August 24). SKM (Non-Political) will hold a separate protest in Faridkot on August 7. Manjit Singh Rai, president of BKU Doaba, said similar posters will soon appear in Hoshiarpur and Jalandhar. 'Several gram sabhas have passed resolutions declaring that no one can dare acquire their land,' he said. The ban recalls the 2020–21 agitation, when BJP leaders were barred from villages during the farm laws protests. Farmer unions had accused the Centre of repression and excessive force at protest sites like Shambhu and Khanauri, where Shubhkaran Singh was killed and dozens injured. 'The defiant move by these Ludhiana villages suggests a deepening rural backlash against policies seen as threatening land ownership and farmer autonomy,' said Harinder Singh Lakhowal, president of BKU Lakhowal. 'Hundreds of farmers gathered in Bhaini Sahib area of Ludhiana on Sunday afternoon to protest the scheme.'

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat says India no longer has to be golden bird, time to become a lion
India has to become strong and also wealthy from an economic point of view as the world understands power, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat said on Sunday. Bhagwat also said that India no longer has to be the 'golden bird' and it was time for it to become a 'lion'. 'It is necessary because the world understands power. So Bharat should become strong. It also has to become wealthy from an economic perspectives,' he added, while speaking at the national education conference, 'Gyan Sabha', organised by the RSS-linked Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas in Kochi. The RSS chief went on to say that 'Bharat' should not be translated as otherwise it would lose its identity and along with it the respect it enjoys in the world. According to a PTI report, Mohan Bhagwat also said that Bharat, a proper noun, should not be translated as its identity is respected 'because it is Bharat'. "Bharat is a proper noun. It should not be translated. 'India is Bharat'. That is true. But Bharat is Bharat. That is why, while talking, writing and speaking, be it personal or public, we should keep Bharat as Bharat. 'Bharat must remain Bharat. The identity of Bharat is respected because it is Bharat. If you lose your identity, whatever other meritorious qualities you may have, you will never be respected or secure in this world. That is the thumb rule,' PTI quoted the RSS chief as saying. Just a day ago, Bhagwat had said that the education system in the country was developed under the long-term influence of colonial ideas and for a developed nation, an alternative based on Indian philosophy needs to be formulated. For that, the focus should be 'deep, realistic, and completely Indian-based,' Bhagwat said. According to the statement issued by the Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas, Bhagwat said during the conference that the workers should become competent in the field they work, be role models in it and develop friendly relations in order to lead others forward. Before the meeting began, RSS chief Bhagwat visited the birthplace of Adi Shankaracharya and lit a traditional lamp (Nilavilakku) to mark the start of the conference, held at the Chitvilasam auditorium. Around 100 delegates from across India, including national coordinators of the Nyas and experts in education, are taking part in the discussions. The focus of the two-day meeting is on building a roadmap for educational reforms to support the vision of a developed India (Viksit Bharat).

Tamil Nadu CM Stalin discharged from Chennai hospital after therapeutic procedure
Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin was discharged from a private hospital in Chennai on Sunday evening after undergoing a successful therapeutic procedure to treat variations in heart rate, the hospital said. After experiencing mild dizziness, the CM Stalin underwent medical examination and a procedure performed by a team of expert doctors.(PTI) On July 21, Stalin experienced dizziness during his morning walk and underwent medical examination, followed by a procedure performed by a team of expert doctors. According to the Apollo Hospital, where the CM was admitted, Stalin has been declared fit for discharge and has been advised to resume his regular activities after three days of rest. After experiencing mild dizziness. Even after being hospitalised, CM Stalin continued reviewing government programmes and initiatives from the hospital room, PTI news agency reported. He also underwent an angiogram earlier, after which no blockage was found in the blood vessels, senior DMK leader and Minister Duraimurugan told PTI. Apollo Hospital had earlier said that after performing several diagnostic tests, it was found that the giddiness was only due to some variations in the heartbeat. An angiogram was performed afterwards, which came out to be normal. Meanwhile, earlier on Sunday, CM Stalin had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting urgent demands related to education, infrastructure, railways, and the welfare of people in Tamil Nadu. In his petition, CM Stalin demanded that funds under the Samagra Shiksha scheme be released and urged the Centre to implement railway projects that were sanctioned over a decade ago but still remain inactive. The petition emphasised the need for the centre's cooperation in implementing crucial projects and addressing long-pending issues. The petition sent to the centre, also raised strong concerns over the continued arrest and detention of Indian fishermen and the seizure of their boats by the Sri Lankan Navy. The Chief Minister urged the Prime Minister to intervene and find a permanent diplomatic solution personally.
