Merchant robbed of 70 kg of silver in Mathura

Mathura (UP), Jul 30 (PTI) Unidentified assailants allegedly robbed a Mathura-based merchant of 70 kilograms of silver in the Farah area of the district on the night of July 29-30, police said.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (Agra Range) Shailesh Kumar Pandey said that the robbery took place near Hindustan College on National Highway 19 in the Farah police station limits.
'The incident occurred when the merchant, returning from Agra with his two sons, was intercepted by a jeep and a motorcycle. The vehicles reportedly overtook their car, forcing it to stop… the merchant and his sons were forced to exit the vehicle, and the robbers fled with a bag containing 70 kilograms of silver," said the officer.

'We can confirm, Ghislaine Maxwell is in the custody of the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) at the Federal Prison Camp (FPC) Bryan in Bryan, Texas,' a spokesperson for the Bureau of Prisons said in a statement. Maxwell's attorney, David Oscar Markus, also confirmed the transfer but declined to share further details on the matter. It is pertinent to note that FPC Bryan is a 'minimum security federal prison camp' that houses 635 female inmates. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Interestingly, according to the Bureau of Prisons' inmate locator, the facility in Texas is also home to Elizabeth Holmes, the disgraced former CEO of the California-based blood-testing company Theranos. Holmes has been serving a life sentence for committing fraud. Not only this, the prison camp also houses Real Housewives of Salt Lake City TV star Jen Shah, who was jailed for committing fraud. The timing of it all Maxwell's move from FCI Tallahassee, a low-security prison, to the federal prison camp in Bryan came roughly a month after she was interviewed in Florida by the US attorney general, Todd Blanche, who is also one of Donald Trump's former lawyers. Maxwell was interviewed in two days about the Epstein case. Meanwhile, Blanche has maintained that he wanted to speak with Maxwell, who was sentenced in 2022 for sex trafficking and other related crimes, to see if she has 'information about anyone who has committed crimes against victims'. However, the details of the meeting have not been made public as of now. Maxwell's lawyer, on the other hand, described the meeting as ' very productive', adding that Maxwell answered the questions 'honestly, truthfully, to the best of her ability'. It is pertinent to note that the interview is taking place amid growing political and public pressure on the Trump administration to release the infamous Epstein files. The backlash started in July after the Department of Justice and FBI released a joint memo announcing that they would not be releasing any more documents from the investigation into the late Epstein, who died in prison in New York in 2019 while awaiting federal trial. The announcement came despite earlier pledges to release more files by the US president and the US attorney general, . Last week, the US House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform subpoenaed Maxwell to testify via deposition. Revenue official held for taking Rs 50,000 bribe in Ahilyanagar
Last Updated: Mumbai, Aug 2 (PTI) Two persons, including a revenue official, have been arrested for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a man by threatening to register a case against him for transporting minerals illegally in Maharashtra's Ahilyanagar district, an official said on Saturday. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday caught Satish Rakhmaji Dharam (40), a revenue official, and Akshay Subhash Ghorpade (27) while accepting a bribe, the official said. He said that the complainant alleged he had collected sand from a river using a JCB and tractor for the construction of a house.
