Hey Parents, Just A Friendly Reminder That Prime Day Is Here, So Don't Miss Out On These Deals

Buzz Feed6 days ago
Amazon Prime Day is here! There are more deals than you could ever begin to look through on your own...so that's where we come in.
An Owlet Dream Sock for 27% off (tied for its lowest price ever, folks) — a tech-lovers dream baby accessory. Keep this around their tiny toes at night to monitor their pulse rate and oxygen levels. If anything falls outside of the normal ranges an alert will go off on your phone so you can wake up and check on things in an instant!
Promising review: "After using this for almost three months now I absolutely love the Owlet! As a new mom who's been afraid of SIDS as I have a family member whose baby brother passed away from SIDS before all of this technology to prevent it, I was afraid of the possibility and this product has helped me to sleep at night. I had pre-partum and now postpartum depression and one thing I have never worried about every single night is my baby sleeping soundly all throughout the night. I do still check on him but I'm not panicking trying to figure out if my baby is breathing. I love being able to see his sleep cycle and keep up with his movements! To anyone looking for a great gift for a new mom to be able to use for a long time as well as for several children, this product is the one to go with. I feel that in this day and age, this is not a want but a need, especially for parents with anxiety!" —Alice WoodPrice: $199 (typically $273.89)
A 100-piece set of Picasso Tiles at Amazon for 30% off (it's the cheapest they go for), which reviewers say work with and are comparable to Magnatiles (so if the kiddo in your life already has some, these can expand their set), for some extra bang for your buck *and* a sale on top of that.
Promising review: "I wish I had known about these sooner! PicassoTiles are *exactly* like Magna-tiles but way more affordable. We just received the 100 tile set today - an early birthday gift for our soon-to-be-four-year-old. We have two sets of Magna-tiles - one with the grommets (purchased new last year) and one without (purchased second hand [no idea how old they are]). The PicassoTiles are the same weight and size as the MagnaTiles and have the same exact magnets. They do not have metal grommets, but the old MagnaTiles are indestructible, so I know that these will be too. And PicassoTiles are much prettier in my opinion, because they are slightly more translucent and have brighter colors. They integrate into the collection seamlessly. I highly recommend this product. And if you are considering buying any kind of magnetic tile toy for your child, I recommend purchasing as big a set a you can for versatility of play. Our son has played with these all day and night off and on every single day since we bought them last year. After integrating the new PicassoTile set, he hugged his enormous structure and declared them his favorite...twice. A wonderful toy!" —skater momPrice: $27.99 (originally $39.99) And check out all the deals on toy favorites here.
A universal stroller board for 20% off — there's no need to spend big $$ on a custom standing pad stroller, just attach this (at an already discounted price!) to the stroller you own and turn it into a spiffy extra spot for your older kiddo!
Promising review: "This attaches to both of my strollers very easyily and the kids love it. We live on on dirt road and it still works perfect. We have three kids who are three and under, so the extra space is helpful." —ErinPrice: $47.99 (originally $59.99)
A Y0140 iRobot Roomba for 49% off (bringing it to $10 cheaper than its last lowest price) because if robots are gonna steal our jobs, it might as well be the bad ones. This bagless machine vacuums AND mops at the same time with a special brush, meaning you might actually have clean floors for once.
Promising review: "I love this robot. We got this because our baby is constantly on the floor, so we just wanted a little extra help with keeping the floors clean. We run it every night, and seeing how much it picks up blows our mind. We have two dogs, so dog hair and Cheerios are mainly what we get, but it has definitely made a difference with our floors on top of what we already do to keep our floors clean. Highly recommend. We have vinyl wood floors, so it runs fine on them, but it can go on carpet as well. We just leave the room doors closed because it is very loud when it runs and we don't want it to come into the rooms." —MakaylaPrice: $139.99 (originally $274; also available in two other styles for a different or no discount)
A Vitamix Propel 750 blender for 40% off (a new lowest-ever price!) with all the reviewer-beloved Vitamix features (quality build, super-fast and thorough blending, easy cleanup) with *five* preset options — smoothie, hot soup, frozen dessert, dips and spreads, and self-cleaning — to make whipping up family meals and treats even easier.
Promising review: "Bought this product on sale, and it was worth the investment. It blends better than any other blender that I have had. Its multiple options allow for anything from smoothies to purees. I love that I can make soup with this blender. It has plenty of power and a large enough volume to make plenty for a small household. It is also easy to clean! If it is on sale, and you need a better blender, I definitely recommend it. Otherwise, it is very expensive at full price." —Daniel & AmandaPrice: $379.95 (originally $629.95; typically $578.84 from a third-party seller; available in four colors) — and shop all the Vitamix deals here!
A Graco Extend2Fit car seat for 35% off — the 2.0 version, which is a new lowest-ever price. It converts from a rear-facing seat to a forward-facing seat (and a highback booster seat!) and has up to 5" of additional rear-facing legroom to keep your tot safe and comfy in the car for years.
Promising review: "Easy to install, great quality, cute design, my daughter loves it, and it is the perfect size. The latch is great; her other car seat dug into her neck, and this one doesn't at all. It is perfect for safety and comfort. All around super happy over this car seat 💯 recommend for anyone needing a new car seat." —Michael CrossPrice: $149.49 (originally $229.99; sale price only available in the 2.0 versions; available in seven colors) — and shop all the Graco deals here
A Watermelon Ball for up to 24% off because kids will invent 12 new pool games before you even finish applying sunscreen. This thing sinks, floats, bounces, and dribbles *underwater*, which basically makes a magic trick disguised as a pool toy.
Promising review: "This is an awesome pool toy for kids! It keeps them entertained and works for all kinds of games — basketball, soccer, keep-away, you name it. It's especially fun with a group (three or more is ideal), but even solo, it's still a blast. Just make sure to fill the ball completely with water — if there's even a little bit of air left inside, it'll float instead of sinking like it's supposed to. Once it's filled properly, though, this thing is unbeatable. Highly recommend it — kids are going to love it!" —LosemPrice: $18.99+ (originally $24.99+; available with or without an LED light)
A Tushbaby hip carrier for up to 35% off that'll keep you from straining your back when your kid simply insists on being carried all the time. Reviewers love how comfortable it is and also go wild over the amount of pockets it has for all sorts of gear (including your own phone, keys, and wallet).
It's recommended for children between 8 and 45 pounds and can be used in four different holding positions — feeding/breastfeeding, side carrying, front facing, and face-to-face. See why this mama calls the Tushbaby "the best invention for parents of young children" on TikTok. A true Brooklynite, my daughter started *insisting* on walking outside at 11 months old. This side carrier helps us move things along faster when she gets tuckered out. I love using this on the subway, as she can sit down and move around without my needing to get her out of a carrier. It's also stellar for breastfeeding on the go, whether I'm sitting or standing. BTW, Tushbaby is a small biz run by three California mamas and specializes in products that bring a little more ease to everyday parenting life.Promising review: "This has been one of MANY items I have purchased thanks to TikTok, and I'm glad I did. Super easy to use, easy to adjust, and most importantly it helps with support tremendously. It comes with pockets and a place to hold bottles/sippy cups, which can be very handy. My 8-month-old weights around 30–35 lbs, and he's basically attached to me 24/7, carrying all day was killing my back and arms! Thank God for this invention, my arms and back can rest." —Jennifer CallePrice: $54.99 (originally $84.99; available in three colors)
Bose QuietComfort wireless headphones for up to 43% off if you're in need of a reliable, noise-canceling pair that'll block out the sounds of your colicky kid when you are *trying* to help them out but are getting way overstimulated. With a padded over-ear fit, 24 hours of battery life on a single charge, and phenomenal audio, they will help keep you calm even when your baby...isn't.
P.S. These come with an audio cable with an in-line microphone so you can use them without a Bluetooth connection or even when the battery is depleted! These were my own summer Prime Day purchase last year! I'd had an older version for *several* years, and, like their predecessor, this new pair has basically become part of my body. Noise-canceling headphones were a really important tool for me to have on hand with my newborn. I love having them on during stressful nights of teething because they keep my tired self from going too wild when my kid just needs to be comforted. Bless. Bose.Promising review: "It's hard to imagine that these headphones leave any room for improvement. Their spatiality and clarity are excellent. The accuracy of music reproduction is good enough even to pick up occasional flaws in the original recordings and/or differences in recording processes. Noise cancellation has improved dramatically vs Bose's original entry years ago. Great for use in a gym environment as well as airline travel." —HarrisonPrice: $199 (originally $349; available in five colors)
Outlet covers for 20% off with a hidden pull handle, so that exposed electrical sockets (your toddler's favorite temptation) can be a parenting problem you quickly check off your list.
One pack includes 45 cover plugs, so these may become my new parenting party favor. I got these after a coworker recommended them in her own post (oh yeah, I'm a total sucker for BuzzFeed shopping posts) and they have been a success! Promising review: "I purchased these specifically because I've had the regular type and get tired of breaking my nails trying to get them out. Plus, a toddler is watching how you do it, so these are a bit more stealth if you cover your hand while flipping out the handle." —Fair Comprehensive ReviewsPrice: $6.72 (originally $8.50; also available in packs of 32, 42, and 55)
A universal cup holder for 30% off because, after spending an arm and a leg on a stroller, you realized the darn thing doesn't include a cup holder. This can attached to your stroller or diaper bag. It comes in an array of fun colors and has drainage holes in the bottom. Sip, sip, hooray!
I have an unreasonably nice stroller and I feel very lucky. Although my luxury stroller knows how to keep my kid comfortable, it underestimated how often I'd be taking the kid on walks just to go to Starbucks. This was an absolute necessity. I love that it doesn't fill up with condensation and my drinks don't wobble when I walk! Ryan & Rose is a family-owned small business that creates stylish accessories parents will love. Reviewers also love adding this cup holder to other objects like their spin bikes, beach chairs, shopping carts, and more. I picked up one of these and attached it to my son's Doona Liki Trike (which has no cup holder or pockets). I use it to hold my wallet and keys whenever we go for a walk around the neighborhood — it's great!Promising review: "I am obsessed with these holders! I have a huge stroller that a conventional cupholder won't work on, the Ryan And Rose Cutie Holder is perfect! I am actually order a second one that I can use to hold to hold my cellphone! It includes a realistic steering wheel, a scrolling GPS, keys, lights and sounds, and a beeping horn.
Promising review: "This thing is awesome! My kids were playing with my husband's old gaming steering wheel and it ended up breaking apart a week ago. They were pretty upset because they love pretending to drive so I looked to find another one. There were cheaper options than this one but they were just the plain steering wheel, no buttons or gear shift so I decided to give this one a try. My boys loved it so much that I had to sit with them for hours having them take turns playing so they wouldn't fight over it. I didn't realize there was a little window that shows the car on the road but my 3-year-old LOVES it! He likes to set the timer on the gas gage and when it goes off he lets me know he's pulling into the gas station (there's a little gas station in the window part). A Peppa Pig version of Monopoly Junior for 50% off you can count on to make your kids more excited than ever for a family game night. Beware, you might all fight over who gets to be Daddy Pig, though (dibs!!!)
Promising review: "I bought this board game for my granddaughter, and it's been an absolute hit. She's a Peppa Pig fan, so seeing her favorite characters on the board made her light up with excitement. It's a fun, simplified version of Monopoly that's easy for little ones to understand and play without getting overwhelmed. I especially love that this game gives her a break from the constant screen time on iPads and tablets, which is something I'm very mindful of. It's important to me that she engages in activities that stimulate her mind and allow for face-to-face interaction, and this game does exactly that. We've had some wonderful bonding time playing together, and it keeps her entertained while learning basic counting, money skills, and taking turns. I highly recommend this to any family with young kids—fun, educational, and most importantly, screen-free." —Bling QueenPrice: $9.99 (originally $19.99)

Each individual figure tells different stories and sings different songs — it's a great way to keep kids entertained without a screen.
This toy has bought me so much time. My kids adore theirs — even though they're only 3 and 1 — they have no problem understanding how to turn the Toniebox on, change the volume, and place different characters on top to tell various stories. He's a big fan, as am I! It can also be used while it's charging, so there's no need to worry about your toddler having a meltdown if they want to play with it while the battery is drained (phew). This specific kit comes with the Toniebox as well as Tonies figures of Woody, Lightning McQueen, Simba, Winnie-The-Pooh, and Playtime Puppy. There are so many different Tonies you can add to keep the fun going — check 'em out.Price: $99 (originally $159.99, other colorways reflect this price) and check out everything else on sale from Tonies!
33% off a Nanit monitor and wall mount to help you keep a watchful eye on your babe while they sleep — you can also easily see stats on how long they've been asleep or if they're standing and not-so-patiently waiting for you to come scoop 'em up.
I switched to the Nanit monitoring system when my daughter was born because the app has an incredible split-screen option that lets me watch both kiddos at once — it's been a game changer. It's super easy to set up, and once you've done so, there's nothing more to do but the occasional software update. The app itself is simple: it shows you a view of your kiddo's crib, notes how long they've been asleep, if they're crying, or if they're standing. The audio and picture is so clear (including the night mode) and the camera itself is unobtrusive to my kids' rooms' decor. I also love that even if I'm out (rarely) I can check in on my sleeping babies for some peace of mind.Promising review: "This baby monitor is an absolute parenting game-changer — a solid 10/10 in every possible way! The seamless synchronization with your phone, even when you're away from home, is revolutionary. The real-time alerts for sound and motion keep you informed about every move your little one makes. The standout feature is the ability to meticulously track your baby's sleep patterns, capturing every waking moment, putting down, and sweet falling asleep. Revisiting memories of your baby sleeping is an emotional treasure, and the expert advice on optimizing sleep for your child is a priceless addition. If you seek a baby monitor that seamlessly integrates advanced technology with practical parenting insights, look no further. This monitor has elevated my parenting journey, offering unparalleled peace of mind and heartwarming memories. A resounding 10/10!" —Savannah WoodenPrice: $199.99 (originally $299.99)
Up to 39% off an Instant Pot Vortex Plus air fryer for anyone who's allergic to cooking but wants to eat something other than takeout and microwave meals. And given all its features — not only is it an air fryer, but it can also broil, roast, dehydrate, bake, and reheat — even self-proclaimed cooking enjoyers may find themselves using this gadget instead of their oven!
Promising review: "I do all the cooking in our house, and I was debating about purchasing an air fryer. I had heard good things about them, but I just did not see myself using an air fryer all that much. I figured it was just another high-priced kitchen gadget that would end up gathering dust. I did a lot of research and watched a YouTube video from America's Test Kitchen where this air fryer came in number one. I decided to purchase this air fryer. I can tell you after a couple of months that I use this product at a minimum of 4 or 5 times a week! I have made pork chops, steaks, and chicken breasts, and it is great for reheating items. But the winner is two things. It makes the very best bacon with little mess, and it makes chicken wings perfectly. I purchased some Buffalo Wild Wings sauces, and my family has buffalo wing night every couple of weeks for one-fourth the cost of going out. It is also very easy to clean and almost no mess at all. If you are considering buying an air fryer, take the leap and get this one. I could truly not recommend it more highly." —wwrrmm1953Price: $64.99+ (typically $106.37+; available in two sizes) — and shop all the Instant Pot deals here
34% off a full HD Dash Cam (setting a new record for lowest-ever price!), so you can take off on your summer road trip with some added peace of mind. This gadget features built-in Wi-Fi GPS, night vision, and a parking monitor so all of your bases are covered.
Promising review: "We purchased this camera about 18 months ago and it has now paid for itself 100x over when it provided evidence to the police and insurance that my wife was not the one at fault in an accident that totaled her vehicle, and the other party lied to the police. It was easy to install and had clear instructions. Great suction cup with integrated GPS antenna, which made installation a breeze. The camera will slide off the mount if you want to hide it while parked without removing the entire mount. Crystal clear video, front at 4K and back at 2K, produces high resolution video where you can read license plates and even identify who was driving another vehicle." —Prime RiskPrice: $85.49 (typically $129.99)
And finally, 20% off Death Wish Instant Coffee Packets for parents who, like me, don't brag about how well they can hold their liquor but their caffeine. If you can handle the 300mg of caffeine per cup – these are the beans for your child-rearing life.
Note: According to the Mayo Clinic, up to 400mg of caffeine is safe for most healthy adults. Check out a TikTok of the Deathwish Instant Coffee in action. (Also I read at least one review of someone PUTTING THIS IN THEIR MORNING SMOOTHIE, some of you are WILD.) Death Wish Coffee is a small business that specializes in coffee pods, grounds, whole beans, and more. Promising review: "So let me start by saying that this coffee is delicious and works if you're someone like me who wants to stay awake. I work night shifts at a hospital, and in the mornings, when I get home, I'm quite tired and sleepy. I made myself a cup of coffee and waited for it to work. Now let me tell y'all!!! This coffee kept me awake for hours!! BOY, WAS I WOWED INDEED … best believe I went ahead and ordered three more boxes. This is now my to-go coffee if I need a BOOST!!!!!! If you like coffee and want to stay awake, then BUY THIS COFFEE!!! I'm happy I no longer have to take naps to get re-energized." —nancyPrice: $8.79 for a ten-pack (originally $10.99)

These 18 Products Solve So Many Hot-Weather Problems

Whether it's stressed out skin, an abundance of sweat or smelly pets, there are some summer-specific problems can be solved with some easy fixes we found on Amazon. With the right products, you can stay cool, carefree and enjoy every hot second. One of Amazon's most popular pimple patches Given how many products are available at Amazon, it's no small feat to achieve number-one bestseller status in the retailer's vast beauty and personal care section. These hydrocolloid pimple patches promise to address blemishes discreetly by absorbing the inner 'gunk' to reduce their size and color – so if warmer weather has your skin acting up, this pack of 36 zit stickers feels like a no-brainer. Where it looks like something happened but it didn't actually do anything, you know? Fast forward, I'm now on my third make the zits go away faster and protect them from wondering fingers. I'm guilty of poking at my face anytime I'm near a mirror but these prevent me from messing with them. The fact you can see them working is enough to give me that same even work through hair! I had a zit in my sideburn area and my fiancé had a cystic zit on his scalp and the patches worked both times! With having to wear masks all the time and being in the Florida heat and humidity, my face definitely hasn't been the clearest this summer. The patches also prevent my mask from irritating the zits that it has caused and that definitely helps with the healing process. UnitedHealth's campaign to quiet critics

Mary Strause, a filmmaker in Wisconsin, logged on to Amazon's video-streaming service in late May so she could share a link to her latest project, a docuseries that harshly criticized the U.S. health care industry. She was surprised to see that her video had vanished. Strause had no way of knowing it, but the video had been taken down after a law firm working for UnitedHealth Group, one of the country's largest health care companies, sent a letter warning Amazon and another streaming service, Vimeo, that the video was defamatory. It was the latest salvo in an aggressive and wide-ranging campaign to quiet critics. In recent months, UnitedHealth has targeted traditional journalists and news outlets, a prominent investor, a Texas doctor and activists like Strause and her father, who complained about a UnitedHealth subsidiary. In legal letters and court filings, UnitedHealth has invoked last year's killing of Brian Thompson, the CEO of the company's health insurance division, to argue that intense criticism of the company risks inciting further violence. The tactics have had an impact. Amazon and Vimeo both removed Strause's film. The Guardian postponed publishing an investigation of the company after UnitedHealth sued over a previous article it said was defamatory. UnitedHealth joins a growing group of companies and wealthy individuals, including President Donald Trump, who are using legal threats and lawsuits to deter or penalize criticism. Over the years, there have been scattered examples of embattled companies -- such as Purdue Pharma, the maker of the highly addictive painkiller OxyContin -- deploying legal offensives against a broad spectrum of journalists and critics, said Lee Levine, a retired First Amendment lawyer who has defended news outlets, including The New York Times. 'Some version of this has been going on for a long, long time,' Levine said. But, he added, 'the incidence of it has increased.' For UnitedHealth, the stakes are high. In recent years, the company has been the subject of extensive investigative reporting into its billing practices and denials of patient care, among other things. It faces a variety of federal criminal and civil investigations, including into potential Medicare fraud and antitrust violations, The Wall Street Journal has reported. 'Negative publicity may adversely affect our stock price, damage our reputation and expose us to unexpected or unwarranted regulatory scrutiny,' UnitedHealth noted in its most recent annual report. The company's shares have declined 40% over the past year. Eric Hausman, a spokesperson for UnitedHealth, defended the company's efforts. 'The truth matters, and there's a big difference between 'criticism' and irresponsibly omitting facts and context,' he said in a statement. 'When others get it wrong, we have an obligation to our customers, employees and other stakeholders to correct the record, including by making our case in court when necessary.' Even before Thompson was fatally shot in December on his way into a Manhattan hotel, the company had been seeking to tamp down negative publicity. In March 2024, The Examiner News in Mount Kisco, New York, published its latest investigation of a UnitedHealth division, Optum Medical Care, that operated in the area. A source had provided Adam Stone, the newspaper's publisher, with a recording of Optum employees, and Stone said he inadvertently posted the whole file, rather than a snippet, with his article. Within hours, he had corrected the mistake -- but not before Optum had noticed. About a week later, Stone received a letter from the executive who ran Optum in New York and New Jersey, saying he had potentially committed a crime by airing audio that included private information about patients. The executive demanded that Stone destroy the audio and said the company might seek a court injunction barring him from continuing to publish it. Stone replied that he would not destroy the audio. An Optum lawyer then wrote a letter reiterating the demand. Stone again refused. It was the last he heard from the company. 'The aim was to use scare tactics to intimidate,' Stone said. UnitedHealth's efforts intensified after Thompson's killing. In early January, Dr. Elisabeth Potter, a plastic surgeon in Austin, Texas, posted a self-made video on TikTok and Instagram that described how she had interrupted breast-reconstruction surgery to respond to a phone call from UnitedHealth about whether the insurer would cover a patient's stay at a hospital. The call had come to the operating room's phone line, leading her to believe it was urgent. 'Insurance is out of control,' Potter said in the video. 'I have no other words.' The short video was viewed millions of times and attracted hundreds of thousands of 'likes' on social media. About a week later, Potter received a six-page letter from the law firm Clare Locke, which UnitedHealth had retained as 'defamation counsel.' The letter claimed that she had distorted the circumstances of the phone call and that her video was libelous. It noted that some commenters were responding to her posts by celebrating Thompson's killing. The letter demanded that she retract her video and apologize. A lawyer for Potter sent a letter to Clare Locke defending the accuracy of the video. The law firm did not respond, Potter said. One of the many people who shared Potter's video was billionaire investor Bill Ackman, who has nearly 2 million followers on the social platform X and regularly wades into controversies. In a post accompanying the video, he suggested that investors should bet against UnitedHealth's stock and that the Securities and Exchange Commission should investigate the company. The post brought even more attention to Potter's video. Ackman soon heard from Clare Locke. He already knew the firm. He and his wife, Neri Oxman, had hired Clare Locke to threaten Business Insider after it reported in 2024 that she had plagiarized parts of her doctoral dissertation. (They did not end up suing.) Now, though, the roles were reversed. One of the firm's co-founders called an aide to Ackman and told him that the video included falsehoods. And UnitedHealth contacted the SEC to complain that Ackman was trying to drive down the company's stock price. Ackman deleted the post. But after he spoke with Potter and looked at notes and call logs provided by her lawyer, he changed course. 'I believe that Dr. Potter told the truth,' he wrote on X in February. He accused UnitedHealth of 'brazen attempts to silence UNH's critics.' Clare Locke never followed up with him. Still, Potter's conflict with the company was not over, she said. She had recently opened her own surgery center and had hired a consultant to help persuade UnitedHealth and other insurers to classify it as an in-network provider. Winning that designation was essential to Potter's business plan. Then Potter's video went viral, and UnitedHealth stopped responding to inquiries from her representative, she said. Potter perceived it as retaliation. Although she said she was still in talks with other major insurers, UnitedHealth is the country's largest. She said she worried that her surgery center might have to close. At the time that she posted the video, Potter hadn't anticipated UnitedHealth's reaction. 'I guess I was naive,' she said. Hausman, the UnitedHealth spokesperson, said the insurer had decided not to designate Potter's center as in-network before she posted her video. In May, The Guardian published an investigation that said UnitedHealth had sought to save money by discouraging nursing homes from sending sick residents to the hospital. The article -- which was based on lawsuits, internal company documents, patient records and interviews -- noted that UnitedHealth disputed its findings. Last month, UnitedHealth sued The Guardian for defamation. The lawsuit accused the news organization of deliberately publishing false accusations and 'brazenly trying to capitalize on the tragic and shocking assassination' of Thompson. The Guardian said it stood by its reporting and was preparing to defend itself against the lawsuit. The timing of the lawsuit was notable. It was filed the day before The Guardian was scheduled to publish a second investigation into UnitedHealth, according to people familiar with the plans. The news organization had informed UnitedHealth about the article's timing. After the lawsuit was filed, editors at The Guardian decided to postpone publication of the second piece, the people said. It hasn't yet run. It was around this time that Strause, the filmmaker from Wisconsin, logged on to Amazon's video-streaming service to get a link to share with a friend. Strause and her father, Dan Strause, who had helped run a small chain of pharmacies in Wisconsin, had hoped that the docuseries, called 'Modern Medical Mafia,' would reveal the inner workings of drug industry middlemen known as pharmacy benefit managers, or PBMs. One of the largest PBMs, Optum Rx, is a UnitedHealth subsidiary. The show's central premise was that PBMs operated like an organized-crime ring, using their dominant market positions to push prescription prices ever higher. The first episode included interviews with two members of Congress and several prominent critics of PBMs and featured computer-generated animations of shadow-cloaked businesspeople and gangsters. A trailer for the series went online late last year, and UnitedHealth learned that it was going to be available on platforms including Amazon Prime Video. In January, Clare Locke flagged UnitedHealth's concerns in a letter to Amazon's outside counsel. The episode nonetheless became available on Prime Video in late March. On May 21, Clare Locke wrote again to Amazon's lawyers. The 16-page letter claimed that the docuseries 'spreads a vociferous and false screed in a thinly-veiled call to violence for anyone who is dissatisfied with the American health care system. Recent history and Brian Thompson's murder demonstrates the devastating and irreversible consequences of ginning up such hatred with false claims designed to inspire violence.' The letter said the video violated Amazon's terms of service and should be removed, in part because it 'doxxed our clients' physical address' by showing a street sign for Optum Way in Minnesota. Within days, the video -- which had no more than a few hundred views -- had been removed from Prime Video. Strause contacted Filmhub, the company that had helped place the documentary on the platform, to ask why. 'Channels occasionally decline and remove titles that they say are not aligned with their ever-changing content policies,' Filmhub responded, noting that Amazon's decision was not subject to appeal. (An Amazon spokesperson, Katie Barker, said in a statement that Filmhub decided to have 'Modern Medical Mafia' removed after Amazon flagged its 'low video quality.' Filmhub executives did not respond to requests for comment.) In early June, Strause received an email from Vimeo, where 'Modern Medical Mafia' had also been available for streaming. 'This content was removed due to a complaint Vimeo received concerning defamation,' the email said. 'Vimeo is not able to evaluate the truth or falsity of such a claim, and it asks that you resolve the dispute directly with the complainants, Optum Rx and UnitedHealth Group.' To Strause, UnitedHealth's determination to get her video taken down showed that she and her father were exposing the truth. 'They're intimidated by what we're saying,' she said. The video remains available on YouTube, which said it had not received a request to remove it, and Strause said she planned to upload the rest of the series to that platform later this year.
