
Infosys expands GCC practice, ropes in Deval Shah to lead
Shah is currently the VP and delivery head at Infosys. Two years ago, Infosys won a $454-million contract from Danske Bank. As part of this, Infosys acquired Danske Bank's IT centre in India, which employs 1,400 professionals. Headquartered in Denmark, Danske Bank provides banking services to personal and business customers, as well as large corporate and institutional customers. Infosys is accelerating the bank's technology transformation, optimising their access to talent and capabilities, and improving productivity.
In an internal note to employees, Infosys stated that as part of
Project Altius
, one of its key growth priorities is to win more business from GCCs. "The GCC market is expanding rapidly, offering opportunities for both multi-year transformation deals for setting up new GCCs (BOT (build, operate and transfer), assisted captives, JVs, etc.) and providing embedded support for scaling up existing ones," the note said. When TOI asked Infosys CEO Salil Parekh about the extended scope on GCCs, he said the company is working very closely with GCCs and clients, either to help set up or scale different models.
"Recently, we announced a very large win in GCC with a services business and with an airline business. So we feel quite good."
In Jan, TOI reported that Infosys is setting up a GCC for Lufthansa in Bengaluru as part of the nearly $300 million IT contract renewed with the German airline. This GCC aims to enhance Lufthansa Group's software and product development as well as increase support for its products for the external airline market customers.
Recently, Cognizant appointed Sailaja Josyula as the global head of its GCC service line. Based in Hyderabad, she will oversee the execution of Cognizant's global GCC strategy, establishing and leading a cross-functional team. Josyula returned to Cognizant after a brief stint at EY. Cognizant CEO Ravi Kumar told TOI in a recent interview that GCCs are not adversaries, and Cognizant is beginning to work actively with them to do some parts of their work.

Hyderabad: The newly-elected leadership of CredaiHyderabad has unveiled a progressive roadmap for the city's real estate sector, pledging holistic development, policy reforms, and infrastructure support. In its first formal media interaction since taking office on June 20, the committee outlined its vision for a more inclusive, transparent, and investment-friendly property market. N Jaideep Reddy, president, Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Associations of India (Credai) – Hyderabad, described the new leadership team as 'young, diverse, and energetic', representing all geographical quadrants—North, South, East, and West Hyderabad. He emphasised that many of the current office bearers are second-generation developers who rose through the Credai Youth Wing, which now comprises over 100 active members. 'Our team is rooted in experience and driven by fresh energy,' Reddy said. Within just three weeks of assuming charge, Credai Hyderabad has initiated dialogues with key government departments, especially the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD), to address long-pending regulatory and operational challenges. Reddy termed the government's response 'very positive', citing encouraging movement on stalled issues. The real estate sector in Hyderabad continues to exhibit strong fundamentals. According to Credai, property registrations in May 2025 alone crossed Rs 4,300 crore, registering a 14 per cent year-on-year growth. This surge, Reddy noted, is supported by Hyderabad's expanding employment hubs, a favorable investment climate, and ongoing infrastructure upgrades. Looking ahead, the city is expected to add nearly 200 million square feet of office space by 2026, fueled by rising demand from Global Capability Centers (GCCs) and sustained public investment in infrastructure. Projects such as the Regional Ring Road (RRR), Phase-II of the Metro Rail, and elevated corridors are set to significantly boost urban connectivity and ease mobility across the city. A major initiative announced was a mega property exhibition scheduled for August 15–17 at the Hitex Exhibition Center. The event will showcase over 300 real estate projects, including luxury apartments, villas, and gated communities, across more than 70 stalls in two large halls spanning 80,000 square feet. 'This show will be a one-stop destination for homebuyers to compare, clarify, and choose properties under a single roof,' said Credai convenor Kurra Srinath. The exhibition will also feature cultural elements such as Telangana's traditional art, crafts, and food courts to create a festive atmosphere for families. CredaiHyderabad is also pressing for key regulatory reforms. The body called for a reduction in stamp duty and simplification of approval processes, which are currently mired in bureaucratic delays across departments such as HMDA, GHMC, and the Water Board. Developers are often required to obtain water feasibility certificates despite the absence of a standard process. 'To truly improve ease of doing business, we urge the state to unify these services under a single-window clearance system that integrates fire safety, electricity, water, and municipal permissions,' said a Credai representative. Another contentious regulation under scrutiny is the mortgage clause mandated by GO 86, which requires developers to mortgage 10 per cent of the land. 'Given the full implementation of RERA, this clause is outdated. We are requesting its revision or removal,' Credai leaders argued. Responding to perceptions that West Hyderabad is the city's only growth zone, the leadership highlighted robust developments across North, East, and South. 'The people tend to focus on the West due to higher visibility and marketing, but the real growth is across the city,' they asserted. With recent rate cuts by the Reserve Bank of India making home loans more affordable, Credai Hyderabad believes now is an ideal time for buyers to invest. 'Hyderabad remains more affordable than metros like Bengaluru or Chennai. With better infrastructure and quality of life, the timing couldn't be better,' they added. Concluding, Reddy reiterated the association's commitment to sustainable, inclusive growth and collaboration with all stakeholders. 'CredaiHyderabad is ready to lead from the front and ensure our city remains one of India's most vibrant real estate destinations.'

GCCs in India driving revenue, not just cost savings
Bengaluru, July 11 (UNI) Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in India are undergoing a seismic shift from being cost-optimisation back offices to becoming strategic hubs for revenue generation and product innovation, said Anuj Agarwal, founder and CEO of Workplace Awards, as he unveiled what he termed the "GCC 4.0" transformation model. "Till now, GCCs primarily served to reduce the bottom line for their global headquarters. But the fourth wave, GCC 4.0, is all about contributing to topline growth," Agarwal told reporters. "These centres are now building core products and becoming critical to the global value chain." This evolution, he said, is changing how Fortune 500 companies view their India operations, no longer as outsourced support, but as innovation-led centres of excellence. "India has historically lagged in developing global-standard products, but these GCCs are now creating the confidence and capability needed to change that," he noted. Agarwal also emphasised that the Workplace Awards platform is not just about accolades. "Our goal is to inspire transformation. Recognition is important, but connection and association are critical. We help GCCs connect with peers and identify the right partners to help them scale and localise effectively." He noted that networking remains the biggest source of learning. "Our platform creates a space for leaders to interact, learn from one another, and identify what drives workplace performance and employee engagement in India." Over the last 18 months, Workplace Awards has turned its spotlight on GCCs, especially those whose customer base lies outside India but whose operations remain largely under-recognised. "These are billion-dollar companies, doing exceptional work in India, but rarely acknowledged. That is the gap we are addressing," he said. The first edition saw participation from around 250 GCCs; this year the number is expected to rise to 400, with 60 percent of them based in Bengaluru and the rest spread across India. Agarwal outlined the rigorous six-month evaluation process which includes over 2,500 nominations, detailed surveys, online reputation analysis, and multi-tier ranking. "It's not just about who applies, it's about who qualifies. We filter through data, research growth trajectories, review workplace practices, and rank them based on holistic criteria." The shortlisted companies are evaluated on a "medium scale" that determines eligibility for recognition, while the highest-ranked ones are ultimately awarded. UNI BDN SS

Top-end EVs power Mercedes-Benz India's Q1 FY26 growth; entry-level segment sees sharp decline
New Delhi: Mercedes-Benz India has posted a strong performance in the first quarter of FY26, fueled by a 157 per cent growth in electric vehicle (EV) sales—entirely driven by top-end models priced above ₹65 lakh. As the company ups its ante on 'premiumisation', its high-end EVs and premium internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles are driving the volume while there is a significant degrowth in the entry-level segment. 'We don't have an entry-level EV in our portfolio, and we're not looking to de-content cars like the GLA just to push price points,' said Santosh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India. 'The growth is purely top-end—both EV and combustion.' During the April-June period, the company retailed 4,238 vehicles, registering a growth of 10 per cent over the corresponding period of the previous fiscal. EV growth and product strategy In Q1, the luxury carmaker's EV portfolio, including the EQS sedan, EQS SUV, and the G580 electric, led the charge. All of these sit in the top-end bracket, with prices starting at ₹65 lakh. 'We've seen a 157 per cent growth in EVs, and that's primarily because our entire EV portfolio is top-end. There's no entry-level electric vehicle in our lineup,' Iyer noted. The company continues to follow a 'customer-led' strategy for EV adoption. While EV penetration in the brand's sales was around 3–4 per cent last year, it now stands at 8 per cent. As a strategy, the company is not chasing numerical targets but is instead focused on offering EV options across the premium spectrum. 'It's about giving the customer a choice and letting them decide the pace of transformation,' Iyer said. Luxury market flat, German trio stable According to Iyer, the overall luxury car market in India grew by only 1–2 per cent in H1 of the calendar year, with the German trio (Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi) posting largely flat results. He attributes this to a strong base effect from last year's H2, which accounted for over 50 per cent of total annual volumes. 'If you look at the first half of the year, the luxury market is flat. The full-year outlook is still cautiously optimistic, with flat to low single-digit growth,' Iyer said. Tier-2, Tier-3 markets in focus The carmaker is also focusing on Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities—not necessarily to drive volumes, but to improve service accessibility. It plans to open 19 new outlets this year, with recent launches in Agra and Jammu and upcoming ones in Patna, Kanpur, and Varanasi. 'In most cities, we're starting with service centres because customers hate traveling to Tier-1 cities just to get their vehicles serviced. It's a customer-centric move, not just a retail expansion,' Iyer emphasised. Premium products and price hikes Mercedes-Benz India has already implemented two price hikes this year—in January and July—with a third possible in September. Despite this, thanks to a timely RBI interest rate cut, the impact on customer EMIs has been mitigated. 'Even though prices went up, our captive financial services arm—which finances over 50 per cent of our cars—was able to pass on the benefit of the rate cut. So EMIs for customers remained unchanged,' Iyer said, adding that price hikes haven't dampened demand in the premium segments. In fact, most new launches have been at the top-end. The GLS, Maybach variants, AMG models, and the E-Class continue to be strong drivers in the core and top segments. 'There are no new launches planned in the entry or core segments. Most of our launches this year—around eight—are in the top-end segment,' Iyer said. Supply chain stable, no rare-earth disruption Speaking on the rare earth magnet crunch that the auto industry is currently grappling with due to the export restrictions imposed by China--which produces 90 per cent of the world's rare earth magnets-- Iyer said the company's supply chain is fairly insulated from the disruption as procurement operations are Germany-based. 'Our supply chain is managed out of Stuttgart and has been robust. We have no issues with sourcing or production. Waiting periods exist for some models like the EQS SUV or Maybach G580, but that's due to demand—not supply constraints,' Iyer clarified. The company also has no plans to localise or develop entry-level EVs for the Indian market. 'All localisation efforts will remain in the top-end segment. Entry-level localisation is not in the pipeline,' Iyer confirmed. Currently, Mercedes-Benz India localises several models in the top-end EV range. Clearly, Mercedes-Benz India is steering its India strategy towards sustainable profitability over sheer volume, banking on top-end electrification, customer experience in emerging cities, and premium-only positioning. As it puts the entry-level models on the backburner, and with EV penetration slowly climbing, the brand appears focused on quality over quantity in a market where luxury still accounts for just 1.1 per cent of total car sales.
