Driver killed, family unhurt as 4x4 vehicle plunges down slope

ROMPIN: An oil palm plantation owner was killed and three of his family members escaped unhurt after their four-wheel-drive vehicle fell down a slope at Jalan Felda Keratong 11 here today.
Bakri Tukiman, 66, from Petaling Jaya, Selangor, died on the spot due to severe head injuries in the 4pm mishap.
Rompin police chief, Superintendent Sharif Shai Sharif Mondoi, said Bakri was driving a Toyota Hilux with his 57-year-old wife, their 28-year-old son, and 25-year-old daughter.
"They were travelling from Kota Bahagia towards Felda Keratong 11. Bakri's car is believed to have skidded before the vehicle entered the opposite lane and landed on a slope among some bushes.
"Bakri sustained head injuries and died at the scene. His wife and children escaped unhurt," he said in a statement today.
Sharif said the accident is being investigated for reckless or dangerous driving.

MIRI: A 22-year-old mechanic died after being crushed by a car while performing maintenance work at a petrol station workshop earlier today. The incident occurred around 11 am in Miri, Sarawak. Miri Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah confirmed the fatality and urged witnesses to contact the Miri Central Police Station at 085-427093 or Insp Nixon Anak Malang at 016-8865949. 'The public is also advised not to circulate or upload distressing images of the victim on social media. Kindly delete such images to preserve the dignity and sensitivities of the victim's family,' he said in a statement. The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 11.03 am and dispatched a team to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the victim, identified as Jacky Huang Nai Kuei, trapped under a Toyota Hilux inside the workshop. 'The rescue team extricated the victim using special rescue equipment. SONG: An 80-year-old man has died when the vehicle he was in veered off the road and plunged into a 10-metre-deep ravine at Mile 24, Jalan Musah Kajah, near Song on Sunday (July 20) The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said they received a distress call regarding the incident involving four others at approximately 7.50pm. A response team was immediately dispatched to the scene, accompanied by police. "The journey to the remote crash site was through a logging track using a Toyota Hilux and two police four-wheel-drive vehicles," it said in a statement on Monday. Upon arrival, the team discovered that a four-wheel drive had skidded and fallen into the ravine. The vehicle was carrying five individuals, including the driver. Berain Sinau, one of the passengers, was pronounced dead at the scene during the incident. Another victim, Basir Dingun, 43, sustained injuries and was transported to Kanowit Hospital by passersby. The three remaining occupants — Sengalang Mangan, 61; Jeki Entili, 44; and the driver, Lawrence Tajing, 50 — escaped without physical injuries. "With the assistance of the police and a logging company there, we had deployed a bulldozer to construct a temporary access route to the crash site to facilitate recovery operations. Rescuers, equipped with full personal protective equipment, carefully extricated the deceased victim and placed him on a stretcher," it added. The victim's body was subsequently handed over to the police for further action. Firefighters also assisted in lifting the remains into a police vehicle.
