Kota Kinabalu: A 56-year-old unemployed was charged with having 32.18gm of syabu. Bakri Amir pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan to the charge against him. However, Bakri's fact and sentencing had been deferred to Aug 8 this year pending the phytology report on the drug. Bakri is accused of having the drug at 5.40pm on July 1 this year by the roadside in Kg Bantayan, Tamparuli. The offence under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act and punishable under Section 39A(2) of the same Act carries a jail between five years and life imprisonment and whipping of at least 10 strokes, on conviction. Pending the date, the court ordered Bakri to be remanded further. In the same court, a 39-year-old man was sentenced to five years and ordered given two strokes of the cane for repeatedly taking syabu. Iyan Laster Clarence Liew, who is currently serving sentence for having drugs, was found taking the drug at 5.05pm on March 23 this year after his urine tested positive for drugs at the Penampang police station. He has three previous conviction records for taking drugs. After serving the jail sentence, he was ordered placed under police supervision. Driver killed, family unhurt as 4x4 vehicle plunges down slope

ROMPIN: An oil palm plantation owner was killed and three of his family members escaped unhurt after their four-wheel-drive vehicle fell down a slope at Jalan Felda Keratong 11 here today. Bakri Tukiman, 66, from Petaling Jaya, Selangor, died on the spot due to severe head injuries in the 4pm mishap. Rompin police chief, Superintendent Sharif Shai Sharif Mondoi, said Bakri was driving a Toyota Hilux with his 57-year-old wife, their 28-year-old son, and 25-year-old daughter. "They were travelling from Kota Bahagia towards Felda Keratong 11. Bakri's car is believed to have skidded before the vehicle entered the opposite lane and landed on a slope among some bushes. "Bakri sustained head injuries and died at the scene. His wife and children escaped unhurt," he said in a statement today. Sharif said the accident is being investigated for reckless or dangerous driving.

Police on manhunt for three suspects in Teluk Intan armed robbery

IPOH: Police have mounted a manhunt for three male suspects involved in an armed robbery at an entertainment outlet along Jalan Changkat Jong, Teluk Intan, on June 15. Hilir Perak police chief ACP Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin said one of the suspects has been identified as a 37-year-old local man with a prior criminal record. 'This suspect has also been placed on the wanted list, and efforts to track down all three individuals are being intensified,' he said in a statement today. He added that the Forensic Unit from the Perak contingent police headquarters (IPK) visited the scene and collected several pieces of evidence, including bloodstains, two fingerprints, broken glass fragments, and closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage. Earlier, a 30-second video went viral on social media, showing three masked men exiting a Honda car and brandishing machetes at individuals at an entertainment outlet. Bakri said a police report on the incident was lodged at 1.02 am on June 15 at the Hilir Perak district police headquarters by a 42-year-old security guard employed at the premises. He said that the three suspects had stormed into the premises, damaged property, and fled with an iPhone 14 Pro belonging to an employee, along with RM2,000 in cash taken from the counter. He added that the suspects also injured two customers with the machetes and smashed the windows of four vehicles parked near the premises. Police have opened an investigation paper under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery and Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief involving damage to public property.
