Levi Colwill had an excellent game yesterday not only defensively, but also in scoring perhaps the most important goal of Chelsea's season. It earned them 3 points today and got them into the Champions League, ultimately.
Speaking to Chelsea TV after the game, he didn't hide his joy at having got the goal.
'It was a tough game. We always knew it was going to be a tough atmosphere and a tough place to play, but we showed the maturity about us and we got the win,' the defender said.
'We didn't play the football that we like to, that we usually do, but we got the win, and we knew that coming in [that's what we needed] and that's what we did, simple as.'
'We were mature, and we got the job done. We got a clean sheet in a game like this, where they hit you on the hard counter attacks, and they're very good at that. For us to stop them and nullify them, I think we did a really good job defensively. But that starts with Pedro [Neto] as a nine, all the way back to Rob [Sanchez] in goal.
He said his goal had felt like it was in 'slow motion,' and having gambled at the far post, he got his reward.
'I've matured a lot, I'm playing for the team a lot more now. If we win and get a clean sheet, I'm happy,' the academy defender concluded.
We've already made it clear how much we like Levi, and we can't wait to see him continue to develop in this team.
His ceiling is so high, and he took another step towards it with his performance today.

U's boss keeps cards close to chest on potential move for Alex Matos

GARY Rowett kept his cards close to his chest when asked about a potential Oxford United move for Alex Matos. The 20-year-old Chelsea midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at United, playing 20 times in Sky Bet Championship. It's understood that Matos isn't short of offers from various other clubs, while a decision on his future may rumble on deep into the summer transfer window. READ ALSO: Get unlimited U's coverage from Indonesia in biggest sale of year Rowett has previously spoken of his admiration for the player, and when asked for an update on a possible permanent transfer, the U's head coach said: 'I'm loathed to talk about players that are at other clubs under contract. 'Of course, Alex is a player who did well for us last season, but there are a number of players in Alex's position and a number of players that are contracted to clubs. 'Like I said, I don't like talking about players, and I would expect that in return from other clubs.' Matos joined Chelsea from Norwich City in July 2023, having featured for the Under-18 and Under-21 teams with the Canaries. He made his Blues first team debut as a late substitute in a 2-0 win at Fulham in October 2023, and also featured from the bench in a Carabao Cup fourth round tie against Blackburn Rovers. Matos joined Huddersfield Town on loan in the Championship in January 2024, and played 19 times in the second tier, 15 of which were starts.

Elliot Anderson knocking on the England door is testament to Forest's growth environment

Before he signed for Newcastle United at the age of eight, Elliot Anderson was occasionally coached by Paul Gascoigne at Wallsend Boys Club. Wallsend is a footballing institution in the North East, with Peter Beardsley, Alan Shearer and Michael Carrick all having come through their ranks. And following Anderson's performances for England as they won the Under-21 European Championship last month, it seems increasingly likely that he will follow in their footsteps — and those of Gascoigne, whose nephew played in the same Wallsend side as Anderson — in another sense. Advertisement Following an outstanding debut season under Nuno Espirito Santo, Nottingham Forest fans have long been campaigning for Anderson to be given a senior England call-up. But the plan among the England hierarchy was always for him to be given the opportunity to shine in Slovakia in the Under-21 tournament this summer. And he did exactly that, appearing in every game in the competition, while contributing a goal and an assist for Lee Carsley's side, who lifted the trophy following a 3-2 extra-time win over Germany. His performances in the heart of midfield will surely have given Thomas Tuchel something to think about. But the rise of Anderson should have given plenty of other people food for thought as well. Because, in a similar way to Wallsend, Forest are increasingly building a reputation of their own. Anderson is only the latest in a long line of examples as to why, if you are a young player wanting to progress your career, signing for Forest might be a very good idea. The midfielder was already regarded as being a player with vast potential at St James' Park, where he had been bestowed with the rather lofty nickname of 'the Geordie Maradona' — something Forest fans have continued to call him following his move. But last season was the first time that Anderson had enjoyed a consistent run of Premier League games. His close control and ability to carry the ball in tight areas make it an understandable comparison. But with his determined outlook, he is perhaps more comparable to a young Steven Gerrard or even a young Roy Keane. Even if he has a long way to go to match those players, his trajectory is unmistakably an upward one. After making his top-flight debut for Newcastle in January 2021, Anderson subsequently made 44 league appearances, but only 13 of those were starts. Under Nuno, Anderson was involved in 37 of Forest's 38 Premier League games in 2024-25, and he started 33 of them. Advertisement Having been signed predominantly to bolster Forest's options on the left side of the three in their preferred 4-2-3-1 formation, Anderson has instead established himself as their most effective central midfielder, more regularly playing in the two. It is in a similar, deeper role where he flourished for England Under-21s in Slovakia — and where he might ultimately be able to force himself onto Tuchel's radar. What is almost certain is that he will start the coming season as one of the first names on the team sheet for Nuno, as Forest look to build on their seventh-placed finish. 'I still believe he has the ability to be versatile. It can only make him better for the future, being able to play more than one position,' said Nuno in a press conference towards the end of the campaign. 'It is a thing a squad needs in its players and Elliot can do that. Every time one of our players plays for their national side, we are proud. That is one of their goals as an individual and that makes them perform better for us. It's a cycle.' Anderson will return to the City Ground as a European age-group champion, but he will also return as one of a growing number of examples of players who have improved by being given the opportunity to grow and evolve with Forest. Since winning promotion in 2022, Forest invested around £101million ($137m) to sign Neco Williams, Murillo, Morgan Gibbs-White, Danilo and Anthony Elanga. Callum Hudson-Odoi cost a relatively modest £4m when he joined two years ago. None were outcasts. They were all young men with bright reputations. But they, along with Anderson, have all taken a significant step forward at Forest. They have all become better players, and this is proven by the interest shown in them or Forest's desire to tie them down to new deals. Newcastle are keen on Elanga, with a bid of £45m — three times the fee Forest paid for him two years ago — having been rejected last month. Williams has just agreed a new contract tying him to the club until 2029. Murillo's progress has seen him monitored by some of the big teams across Europe — if he ever does leave Forest, he could easily become one of the most expensive defenders ever. Advertisement Manchester City were keen on Gibbs-White, who regularly captained Forest last season and has now won four senior caps with England. He has become one of the most important and influential figures in the Forest dressing room. Hudson-Odoi made his England debut at the age of just 18 in 2019 and was regarded as the next big thing to come through the Chelsea ranks. But his career had stagnated in London and it was only the move to Forest that sparked it back to life. Forest hope he'll sign a longer contract, with his current deal set to expire next summer. Danilo's rise was paused last season by the broken leg he suffered on the opening day. But, if he is sold this summer, it is likely to be for roughly double the amount Forest paid (£11m) for the Brazilian. When Forest made the step up from the Championship, owner Evangelos Marinakis was a fan of the Brighton & Hove Albion model, the way they invested reasonable fees to sign the brightest young talent from different markets around the world, before committing time and effort into making them better. Now, if a young player — Botafogo's Igor Jesus and Jair Cunha are perfect examples, with the duo expected to complete moves to Forest imminently — is considering the merits of a move to the City Ground, they only need look at the number of individuals who have seen their potential fulfilled at Forest. Nuno and the club's hierarchy have worked hard to create a nurturing environment. The facilities at the training ground have been improved, with the focus on promoting a sense of togetherness, with the cafeteria and players' lounge having been revamped to create a space where players can be together before and after training. 'I believe everybody should be in equal circumstances, and everybody has a fresh start — no matter how old you are, no matter where you come from, no matter what you did in the past,' said Nuno in a press conference. 'Because there's no past in football, there's always only what is ahead of you.' But there is no escaping the fact that their success in developing players will only make signing for Forest a more attractive prospect, and their future should be brighter for it. Anderson and many others would surely attest.

Ethan Nwaneri's Arsenal contract situation – what we're hearing

Arsenal's new sporting director, Andrea Berta, has a lot to contend with this summer. While much of the focus is on recruitment, there are also key contracts up for renewal. The club have made a positive start, with Gabriel and Myles Lewis-Skelly already committing to new long-term deals. While fans await news from star names such as Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, there is another situation worthy of attention: that of 18-year-old Ethan Nwaneri. Advertisement Nwaneri signed his professional contract upon turning 17 in 2024. That deal is due to expire next summer. Arsenal are yet to find an agreement with Nwaneri over a new contract, and talks are at a delicate stage. The delay is partly down to timing — Arsenal were not permitted to offer a long-term contract to Nwaneri until his 18th birthday in March. According to FA Law C13, 'Players under the age of 18 may not sign a contract for a term longer than three years.' If Arsenal hoped to tie Nwaneri down for five years — as they have with Lewis-Skelly — they had to wait to open negotiations. The relatively short term left on the deal is not necessarily a cause for concern. Nwaneri and his representatives went close to the wire before committing to that first professional contract, amid interest from other clubs. Nwaneri's participation in England Under-21s' successful European Championship campaign is now over — perhaps, with that commitment out of the way, talks may soon accelerate. Nwaneri wants to stay at Arsenal. He is from the area and has a deep connection to the club. His development is his priority, and that has been well-managed at the Emirates Stadium. Although his playing time diminished at the end of the season, he still made 37 first-team appearances across the course of the campaign — an impressive amount of faith for any teenager. For a club, however, having such a gifted player so close to the expiry of his contract induces a little anxiety. After making such an impressive impact in the first team — he scored nine goals and made two assists in all competitions last season — Nwaneri is a highly coveted talent. There is known to be strong interest in him from the Premier League and abroad. If Nwaneri doesn't sign a new deal, he can discuss terms with foreign clubs from January 2026. Arsenal consider this an issue that needs addressing swiftly. They do not want to sell Nwaneri, even if any revenue recouped for the academy player would represent a significant windfall in their calculations for profit and sustainability rules (PSR). Equally, the club recognise they cannot afford to allow such a valuable prospect to become a free agent. Advertisement Something will have to give. Sources close to the negotiations, speaking anonymously to protect relationships, are optimistic talks will result in a renewal — but until it is agreed, the concerns linger. Nwaneri's situation is interesting in the context of Arsenal's wider recruitment drive. The jigsaw puzzle of Arsenal's summer business is beginning to take shape. Several of Arsenal's positional requirements have already been addressed. Kepa Arrizabalaga has been signed to deputise for David Raya. Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard are expected to replace the outgoing midfield pair of Thomas Partey and Jorginho. Berta is actively pursuing the signing of Valencia's 21-year-old central defender Cristhian Mosquera. Focus and budget are now trained on strengthening Arsenal's attack. Aside from the addition of a No 9 — with Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko still the front-runners — Arsenal are also looking to add a winger, and now seemingly a creative midfielder. That has led to the association of some new names. As well as established wide targets, including Rodrygo, Nico Williams and Anthony Gordon, Chelsea's Noni Madueke is now under consideration. Separately, Arsenal also hold an interest in Eberechi Eze, Morgan Rogers, and Morgan Gibbs-White. For Arsenal supporters, it opens up the possibility of a dream summer, with Arsenal improving their firepower with three attacking signings and some marquee names. That kind of outlay, however, comes at considerable cost. If something sounds too good to be true, it might well be. To make those signings, Arsenal may need to sell someone to balance the books. Arsenal's need for a winger is clear. With Raheem Sterling's loan spell at the club now over, Arsenal need an alternative to Bukayo Saka, Martinelli and Leandro Trossard. Reiss Nelson has returned from his loan with Fulham, but is expected to leave. Advertisement Madueke is a strong contender. With Chelsea amid another recruitment drive, they may be open to allowing him to go. Arsenal are attracted by the 23-year-old's Premier League experience and ability to play on both flanks. Other names, including Gordon, Williams and especially Rodrygo, remain in the mix. It remains to be seen if landing one of these players would require Arsenal to sell one of their existing wide options. The Athletic reported on Thursday that Madrid are open to selling their Brazil forward this summer. Martinelli is one of the names admired by Bayern Munich, but there has been no approach. Martinelli is under contract with Arsenal until 2027, with the club holding the option for an additional year beyond that. The 24-year-old Brazil international is happy in London and while the volatility of the market means things can change quickly, his focus is on the winning things with Arsenal. Trossard, meanwhile, has been in talks with Arsenal over a potential contract renewal. Much may depend on what Arsenal ultimately pay for a centre-forward. The club recognise that, if they are to achieve all their aims in the market, they may need to be creative. Arsenal's interest in Eze at Crystal Palace — along with Gibbs-White (Nottingham Forest) and Rogers (Aston Villa) — has been a more surprising development. Eze, 27, has a release clause in his contract worth more than £60million ($81.9m) but, should they proceed, Arsenal would want to strike a deal below that price. Arsenal see Nwaneri's future in central areas rather than on the flank. Regardless, the arrivals of Madueke, Eze or another attacker could reduce his playing time. Arsenal will also have to consider the integration of 15-year-old prodigy Max Dowman. Dowman and Nwaneri operate in similar areas of the pitch, and both require a clear pathway to facilitate their development. It is a predicament for Arsenal. Manager Mikel Arteta is a huge admirer of Nwaneri's talent, so the club will be eager to secure his commitment this summer. Come January, it will be outside of their control. Arsenal's exploration of an Eze deal may be an intelligent contingency in case things don't go to plan on Nwaneri. Advertisement The discussion may prove to be moot. Nwaneri has officially been an Arsenal player since the age of eight — and was in the pre-academy before that — so would not walk away lightly. Berta and Arsenal's director of football operations, James King, will be actively working on finding a breakthrough. Arsenal have already demonstrated in this window, via the swift deals for Norgaard and Arrizabalaga, an ability to act with alacrity and efficiency. Until then, we wait for a resolution. As Arsenal's hierarchy debate squad-building decisions, the role of Nwaneri will feature prominently in their discussions.
