Hyderabad: City top cop, HNEW win global laurels for anti-narcotics fight
The summit has been organised by Dubai Police and scheduled to be held from May 13-15. This accolade places Telangana and India on the global map of pioneering anti-narcotics enforcement. The WPS team formally informed Anand of his selection for first place in the Excellence in Anti-Narcotics Award category and congratulated him. 'This is a recognition of your remarkable achievements in advancing security and safety, and your efforts in promoting awareness and impactful change across communities and nations,' the WPS team conveyed. The World Police Summit is a premier global forum that brings together leading law enforcement professionals from over 138 countries, with participation from globally renowned agencies such as the FBI, NYPD, LAPD, Metropolitan Police (UK), Australian Federal Police, and the German Police, etc.
Against this highly competitive backdrop, CV Anand emerged as the top awardee, marking an extraordinary achievement not only for Telangana Police but also for the country's collective anti-narcotics efforts. Central to this recognition is the pioneering work of HNEW which has implemented a holistic approach to drug control, combining – Multi-agency coordination with ED, NCB, DRI, GST, Excise, FRRO, Drugs Control Administration, and Counter Intelligence, apart from community outreach through anti-drug committees in colleges and sustained public awareness initiatives.
The strong enforcement action lead to the busting of international and inter-state peddling networks, dark web interventions, deportation of foreign offenders, and a significant decline in drug supply. It also focused on rehabilitation, integrating support for victims of substance abuse alongside enforcement.
This global recognition is a testament to the State Government's and Hyderabad City Police's strong resolve, and the unwavering commitment and sustained efforts in combating the menace of narcotics. C.V. Anand reviews arrangements for Bonalu festivities
Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand, on Friday, took part in the traditional Shikara Puja and Dhwaja Rohanam ceremonies for Bonalu at the Mahankali Temple at Lal Darwaza. The Commissioner said that it was customary for the temple committee to invite the city's 'kotwal', a practice that has continued for over a century, adding that Hyderabad City Police, along with all departments, have put in place robust arrangements to ensure peaceful celebrations. He recalled that the recent Golconda and Balkampet Bonalu events passed off without any incident, and assured that similar vigilance would be maintained for the Lal Darwaza procession. Special deployment of police personnel from other zones, including Crime Branch units and She Teams, are in place to prevent pick-pocketing, chain-snatching, and eve-teasing. 'Coordination meetings with Water Board, R&B Department, GHMC, and Electricity Department, have already been held,' he said. Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Konda Surekha took part in the preparatory meetings, and directed officials to ensure seamless execution of arrangements. The Commissioner appealed to temple organisers and devotees to extend full cooperation with the police during the festivities. Among those present at the puja were GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan, DCPs Apoorva Rao, Sneha Mehra, and R. Venkateswarlu, and Temple Committee chairman B. Maruthi Yadav.

Liquor shops to shut in parts of city for Mahankali Jatara
Hyderabad: Liquor shops in parts of the city would remain closed for 48 hours on account of Sree Ujjaini Mahankali Jathara from July 13. A notification issued by the Hyderabad Police Commissioner C V Anand said the liquor shops in 11 police station areas in the city would be closed from 6 am on July 13 to 6 am on July 15 in view of Sree Ujjaini Mahankali Jathara. The 11 police stations are Gandhinagar, Chilkalguda, Lallaguda, Warasiguda, Begumpet, Gopalapuram, Tukaramgate, Marredpally, Mahankali, Ramgopalpet and Monda Market.

Liquor outlets to remain closed in parts of Hyderabad for Bonalu from July 13
The Hyderabad City Police have issued orders to close liquor outlets in select areas of Hyderabad from July 13 to 15 in view of the upcoming Sree Ujjaini Mahakali Jathara (Bonalu festival) in Secunderabad. In a notification issued by Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand, all toddy and wine shops, including bars in restaurants (excluding those in star hotels and registered clubs), must remain shut from 6 a.m. on July 13 to 6 a.m. on July 15. The move is aimed at maintaining public peace and order during the religious celebrations. The restriction will be enforced with the police stations falling under the North, East, and Central Zones of Hyderabad. The targeted areas include Gandhi Nagar, Chilkalguda, Lalaguda, Warasiguda, Begumpet, Gopalapuram, Tukaramgate, Marredpally, Mahankali, Ramgopalpet, and Market. Officials have appealed to residents and business owners to cooperate with the temporary closure to ensure a smooth and peaceful celebration.
