AI vision: Founder Peyush Bansal bets on ‘small, beautiful' deals to bolster Lenskart's tech capabilities
Empower your mind, elevate your skills
Eyewear retail chain Lenskart is continuing to invest in and acquire artificial intelligence (AI) companies to strengthen its technological capabilities, founder Peyush Bansal said on Friday.'We are definitely investing and acquiring a lot of AI companies right now. I always thought acquisition was a good way to speed up technology. It's not the first time. I like small, beautiful deals, which are building tech, and that has always enhanced the tech capabilities,' Bansal said at Shiprocket's Shivir, AI Commerce Edition: Made for Bharat.Earlier this month, Lenskart invested in Ajna Lens, a Mumbai-based deeptech company building AI-powered XR glasses. The company is reported to be planning to acquire location AI startup GeoIQ. Earlier in 2023, Lenskart had acquired Tango Eye, an AI-based computer vision startup.'We think technology first for problem solving, and AI makes it a lot more exciting for us, because for us, that journey is that the base is built, and we feed each other now. We have the super power to do things which we could not have imagined earlier,' he added. However, according to Bansal, while the company adopted AI quite early on, it is much simpler for newer firms to build with AI from the ground up than it is for large companies, which have to transform their existing structures.Lenskart plans to file papers for its draft initial public offering (IPO) this year, targeting a potential $10 billion valuation for a $1 billion public issue, ET had reported earlier. On July 10, ET reported that the Gurugram-based company is likely to issue additional shares to Bansal through a structured payout arrangement, which could increase his stake in the company by 1.5-2%.The SoftBank-backed company closed a $200 million secondary round in June last year at a $5 billion valuation, with investments from Singapore sovereign fund Temasek and US financial services giant Fidelity. A month later, founders Bansal, Neha Bansal, Amit Choudhary, and Sumeet Kapahi invested almost $20 million in the company. The company produces 25 million frames and 30-40 million lenses annually. It operates more than 2,500 stores in India and Southeast Asia and has a strong online presence.

This company shares to be in focus as board approves conversion 29,66,220 Warrants
ओमांश इंटरप्राइजेज लिमिटेड का शेयर बना रहा मालामाल Shares of Man Infraconstruction Ltd, the Mumbai-based infrastructure and real estate company, are expected to be in the spotlight on Monday, 14 July, after the company announced a preferential allotment of 29.66 lakh equity shares through the conversion of warrants, amounting to ₹34.48 crore. Details of the Allotment The allotment, approved by the board's Allotment Committee on 11 July 2025, follows the exercise of rights by warrant holders who opted to convert their holdings into equity shares. Each warrant was converted at ₹116.25, which represents 75 per cent of the total issue price of ₹155 per warrant. The remaining 25 per cent was presumably paid at the time of initial issuance. Equity Share Details The equity shares, having a face value of ₹2 each, will rank pari-passu with the company's existing equity shares in all respects — including dividend eligibility and voting rights. Share Capital Now at ₹77.56 Crore Following this allotment, the subscribed and paid-up share capital of Man Infraconstruction has increased from Rs 76.96 crore to Rs 77.56 crore, comprising over 38.77 crore equity shares. The company also revealed that 1.85 crore convertible warrants remain outstanding, which can be converted into equity within 18 months from the original allotment date, with a further payment of Rs 116.25 per warrant. The funds raised through the warrant conversion are likely to bolster the company's balance sheet and working capital, given the capital-intensive nature of its business which spans engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) in ports, real estate, and urban infrastructure. Man Infraconstruction has emerged as a multibagger stock, posting a remarkable 1384.11 per cent return over the past five years. This makes it one of the standout performers in India's mid-cap real estate space. Despite some short-term volatility — the stock fell 1.57 per cent to close at ₹182.10 on the BSE on Friday — it remains up 25.28 per cent for the current quarter. The stock, however, has corrected 9.54 per cent over the past year, possibly due to profit-booking and broader market weakness.

Union Bank of India cuts 2025-26 headline inflation forecast, largely in line with RBI
New Delhi [India], July 13 (ANI): With food prices lagging seasonal trends and driving headline Consumer Price Index-based retail inflation below 4 per cent since February 2025, Union Bank of India has revised downwards its 2025-26 headline inflation forecast from 4 per cent to 3.6 per cent (largely aligned with the RBI' forecast of 3.7 per cent). The June retail inflation data is due early next week. In a report, the bank said June 2025 retail inflation will be at 2.3 per cent, with the worst seems to be over for now. According to them, July figures would be the near-term bottom. '...in our optimistic scenario, we project FY26 CPI at 3.1 per cent while pessimistic scenario forecast stands at 4.2 per cent. It is noteworthy that even in the pessimistic scenario, we are projecting the CPI for FY26 at 40 bps below that of FY25,' the report read. More importantly, it added that cooling in inflation to sub-4 per cent is largely contingent on drop in 'sticky' food inflation. After remaining sticky in 6.5-7.0 per cent range consistently during 2022-23-25, food inflation is projected to slip in 2025-26 to 3 per cent -- lowest in 7 years. '...while in recent years, food prices have been spilling over in recent years (acknowledged by RBI study with similar name), the expectation of sharp cooling in food CPI this year is contingent on favourable climate conditions,' the bank's report dated July 11 read. On the RBI monetary policy front, the report said they continue to believe that the rate cutting cycle stands concluded for now with terminal rate of 5.50 per cent. The RBI has cut repo rate by 100 basis points cumulatively since early this year. 'Similar to the MPC, we expect a gradual increase in CPI from August'25 onwards as favourable base effects fade and likely breach the comfort level of 4 per cent in H2-FY26,' the report noted. Continuing its downward trend, consumer price inflation in India hit an over six-year low in May, in respite to common people. According to the statistics ministry, the year-on-year inflation rate based on Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the month of May was 2.82 per cent (provisional). It is the lowest year-on-year inflation since February 2019. The significant decline in inflation in May is attributable to a decline in prices of pulses and products, vegetables, fruits, cereals and products, household goods and services, sugar and confectionery and egg, coupled with the favourable base effect. The inflation rate is within the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) manageable range of 2-6 per cent. Retail inflation last breached the Reserve Bank of India's 6 per cent upper tolerance level in October 2024. Since then, it has been in the 2-6 per cent range, which the RBI considers manageable. Retail inflation last breached the Reserve Bank of India's 6 per cent upper tolerance level in October 2024. Since then, it has been in the 2-6 per cent range, which the RBI considers manageable. The inflation outlook for the year 2025-26 has been revised downwards by the RBI from its earlier forecast of 4 per cent to 3.7 per cent. (ANI)
