Tension at KSEB office in Youth League protest over electrocution death
Neerad native Anakkacheri Muhammad Shah, 57, died after coming into contact with a live power line that snapped and fell into a plantation behind his house. Family members said they alerted the KSEB Mundakkulam section office earlier that morning, reporting that a teak tree fell on the power line during heavy rain and strong winds. However, officials didn't arrive in time to shut off the power, which, they claim, led to the tragedy.
The protest began around 11am from Parathakad. A large police contingent from Vazhakad and Kondotty stations, led by DYSP P K Santhosh, was deployed to manage the situation. While police tried to block the march at the office entrance, protestors attempted to force open the shutter.
A group of activists eventually entered the office through the rear door and raised slogans inside the assistant engineer's chamber. They were later removed and arrested by police. Youth League leaders said the assistant engineer, during discussions held in the presence of police, assured that action would be taken against those responsible.
