Happy Birthday Le Creuset—To 100 Years Of Cooking And Style

Forbes2 days ago
The return of the original color but with a special 100th birthday sparkle: Flamme Dorée.
2025 marks a very special birthday for a brand that has become synonymous with good cooking and exceptional style. Le Creuset products are world-renowned for being colorful workhorses in the kitchen, and, with a history rooted in France, the brand also coincides with a history of culinary excellence. Gourmands know that no matter your cuisine of choice, incorporating French techniques usually means an added level of scholarship and attention to detail. It is not much a stretch, therefore, to believe a century-old French product also leads the way when it comes to must-have items for an ardent cook's kitchen. And with the recent accolade as one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential Companies of the year, 100 years in, a party is indeed in order.
Say 'Le Creuset'
First things first. Before thinking about the array of products or the extensive color palette, we have to set something straight: how to pronounce the name. Many of us who have studied French may think, bien sûr, c'est facile! But, of course, it is NOT easy for many, so the brand regularly shares a little tutorial on just how to do it. Likely a 1oo-year-old conundrum, they at least add a dash of humor while setting the record straight:

Whether you say it correctly or trip your way through it, the product has reached heirloom status, and is something regularly listed on wedding registries. People have been known to design their entire kitchens around a piece of Le Creuset cookware. Chef Gaby Dalkin of What's Gaby Cooking is such a big fan, she occasionally collaborates with the brand and cheerleads for it on her social media. She received her first Le Creuset as a wedding present in 2013.
In 2024, the popular LA-based chef hosted two events that highlighted Le Creuset products, one with Secret Supper in Brooklyn and another as a 'Friendsgiving Dinner' held in Los Angeles for her many fans. At each soirée, Le Creuset ovens, pans, braisers and more were showcased on each table, at the bar, in nooks all over the gardens, and filled with bouquets of flowers, bites or butters.
'They are timeless,' said Dalkin, who received a braiser at her wedding. 'From cooking in it to serving in it to leaving it on the counter as an art piece, it's the perfect vessel.' Guests of the New York dinner got to take home a mini, round cocotte in Pêche, the signature color of the evening; and at the November 'Friendsgiving' dinner guests brought home a cocotte in nuit, a deep navy blue.
From Le Creuset's Outdoor Alpine Collection, which launched in May, the line includes six pieces, ... More including a skillet, pizza pan, grill basket, grill pan, and the brand's signature Dutch oven.
'I've had my Creuset for seven years now and it still cooks like I just got it out of the box.'Although the company brings in new colors and retires others, it has ushered in upwards of 200 new shades since 1995 and maintains a few beloved signatures, including Flame or Volcanique (in France), the brand's trademark hue.

To honor 100 years, Le Creuset produced a limited-edition version of the original color, called Flamme Dorée--which means Golden Flame--and has added an element of shimmer from various minerals that sparkle when the light hits the surface. They've also produced a 'crucible knob' in gold to further customize some of the products and pay homage to the brand's special birthday.
The Anniversary celebrations have ramped up in 2025 with the brand serving as a collaborative partner at numerous culinary events across the country, including several dinners with Secret Supper---celebrating its 10th Anniversary---and with Cherry Bombe, the pre-eminent media company that highlights women in the food and beverage industry.
Cherry Bombe has been working with Le Creuset specifically for its summer-long Tastemakers Tour events, which has featured many of the brands signature products, including pieces from the newest line, the Alpine Outdoor Collection, which launched in May. There's a black matte finish on top of each cast iron piece in the line meant to endure high heat from cooking over an open flame.
'My first ever live cooking demo was for a Le Creuset store in 2011. Today, I still use the cocottes, the signature skillet, or the pan, for everything from fruit crumbles to savory French toast or home fries. I love that you can bring them from stove to oven.'French culinary icon Chef Jacques Pepin is also celebrating a milestone this year; the multi-talented chef turns 90 in December. In addition to celebrations throughout 2025 for his birthday, he has joined a birthday parade of sorts with numerous chefs from around the world wishing Le Creuset a Happy 100th. He was recently featured in a video, created by the cookware brand, that shared one of his many Le Creuset memories, most notably about the collection of pots he and his wife Gloria began to collect when they first moved to New York in the late 50s. Today, some of those very pots have been handed down to his daughter, Claudine, who still works closely with her father on television shows and cooking videos, and is the founder of the Jacques Pepin Foundation.

Although 2025 is half gone, the celebrations for Le Creuset are far from over. More stories will be shared and more pieces will be given as gifts or passed down from one to another; and with that, a new generation of cooks will fall in love. So, whether it becomes the tried and true vessel for cooking a daily family meal or sits and shows off its sleek style from the stove, the brand

Pinault remains chairman. 'The first half of 2025 has been a period of momentous decisions for Kering,' Pinault said in a statement, referring to de Meo's appointment and the arrival of new creative directors at Gucci, Balenciaga and Bottega Veneta.'Though the numbers we are reporting remain well below our potential, we are certain that our comprehensive efforts of the past two years have set healthy foundations for the next stages in Kering's development,' Pinault added. This was below the 3.75 billion euros the market was expecting, and marked a slight worsening from the first financial officer Armelle Poulou said the group now plans to shutter 80 boutiques in 2025, up from the 50 announced at the start of the year. There were 41 net closures in the first half, with Gucci and the 'other houses' group — mainly Balenciaga and Alexander McQueen — accounting for 18 each. Kering also nixed seven outlets, and plans further store closures in 2026 and of its luxury brands saw organic sales declines in the second Laurent fell 10 percent, and the 'other houses' division 16 percent. Bottega Veneta was a moderate bright spot, with a 1 percent rise. The Kering eyewear and corporate division also bucked the trend with a 3 percent increase. By comparison, comparable sales at LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton's key fashion and leather goods division were down 9 percent year-over-year in the second quarter, missing consensus estimates. No Quick FixHowever, Kering said it had no plans to sell underperforming brands, amid reports that LVMH is shopping around Marc Jacobs, after offloading its stakes in Off-White and Stella McCartney last year. Kering is focused instead on redressing ailing labels like McQueen, which is undergoing a restructuring.'We have a clear strategy for all the brands, and we are working to execute properly the strategy brand by brand,' said Jean-Marc Duplaix, deputy CEO in charge of operations and finance. 'But so far, when it comes to the portfolio of brands, we have no plan of disposal.'Weighed down by trade wars, geopolitical tensions and financial market volatility, the global market for personal luxury goods will likely fall by between 2 and 5 percent this year, according to the latest Luxury Goods Worldwide Market Study from Bain and anemic demand in China and volatility in the U.S., Kering was impacted by a 'sharp decline' in tourism. Sales in directly operated stores fell 19 percent in Asia-Pacific and 10 percent in North America, an improvement compared with the first quarter. They were down 29 percent in Japan and 17 percent in Western Europe as strong currencies deterred foreign shoppers. Poulou said the group has anticipated the trade deal reached on Sunday under which European Union goods entering the U.S. will be subject to a 15 percent tariff. 'We consider that this is manageable through price adjustments,' she said, noting that some brands preemptively raised prices in the second quarter. A second wave of increases could follow in the fall, depending on consumer Bellettini, Kering's deputy CEO in charge of brand development, said the outlook in China remains murky, despite signs of resilience in high-end products such as fine jewelry and watches.'The general economic environment still creates a low consumer confidence. Currently, the rate of saving is very high,' she said. 'High-quality products are the ones that are performing better at the moment. We still remain positive on China,' Bellettini added. 'But we don't know yet when the trend is going to change. It's very difficult to say.'While Kering has been trimming costs across the board, it does not see a quick return to profit growth. Recurring operating profit for the first half was down 39 percent to 969 million euros, above the consensus estimate of 933 million euros. The recurring operating margin fell to 12.8 percent from 17.5 percent in the same period a year expects the EBIT margin to decline again in the second half, but much less than in the first six months of the year, Poulou said. Given the ongoing weakness in Asia, it has revised downwards its forecast for the gross margin, which is now expected to remain stable in the second half, instead of improving. Hunting for CashKering cut first-half operational expenditures by 11 percent in reported terms, with a substantial contribution from fixed costs. Poulou foresees a decline in the mid- to high single digits for the full year, namely to preserve advertising and promotions spend to sustain brand visibility and amplify upcoming designer debuts. Headcount is down 4 percent year-to-date, with Duplaix noting that staffing levels at Gucci are 22 percent below their 2022 expenditures amounted to 431 million euros in the first half, down 20 percent year-over-year excluding real estate, and were expected to total 1 billion euros for the full year. Kering said it generated 1.5 billion euros in the first half from the ongoing refinancing of real estate and other assets, with another 1.7 billion euros projected for the second half and beyond. Under a deal with private equity firm Ardian valued at 837 million euros, Kering agreed to transfer three of its prestigious addresses in Paris to a new joint venture. Rare Lake Tahoe compound where singer Babyface lived, recorded for sale. See it

A pair of adjacent homes with panoramic views of Lake Tahoe — one of them formerly owned by 13-time Grammy winner and R&B musician Kenneth B. Edmonds, known as Babyface — have hit the market in Incline Village, Nev. The homes can be purchased separately or together, which makes it a rare offering, according to a representative of the Compass real estate firm. Babyface bought the 7,344-square-foot estate at 708 Champagne Road in 1996 and recorded songs there. The sellers purchased the residence from the singer, songwriter and record producer for $2.8 million in 2013, according to public property records.. The 1-acre property is listed for $13.89 million. The other home at 714 Champagne Road, which spans 6,923 square feet and sits on an acre, is priced at $7.9 million. It was last sold in 2020 for $2.8 million, according to public records. The extraordinary estate at 708 Champagne Road is a 'fusion of European sophistication and alpine serenity,' according to the official property listing. 'The first time I walked into 708 Champagne, it felt like a dream — a private European estate hidden in the trees,' listing agent Mary Kleingartner of Compass said in an email. 'The craftsmanship is truly exceptional, with details you just don't see anymore. There's a heart-shaped rose garden, a water feature that greets you at the entrance, and spaces that are elegant without ever feeling cold. It's a grand home that still manages to feel deeply personal.' The extraordinary, five-bedroom, seven-bathroom estate is a 'fusion of European sophistication and alpine serenity,' according to the official property listing. The storybook setting evokes the charm of a French countryside manor. A driveway of cobblestone from Italy winds through lush gardens, fruit trees and glowing gas lanterns, according to Compass. A stream with waterfalls runs through the property. '708 has this incredible presence — stonework, scale and setting that immediately tells you you're somewhere special,' co-listing agent Ryan Mitchell of Compass said. 'It's a rare combination of architectural beauty and functional design. Everything is purposeful, from the oversized rooms to the natural flow between indoor and outdoor living. It's built for both memorable events and quiet mornings.' A chef's kitchen is the centerpiece of the elegant home, which is further highlighted by vaulted ceilings, exposed beams and expansive windows that offer sweeping lake and mountain views. 'We left the chaos of San Francisco behind to raise our four children in the beauty of Incline Village, Lake Tahoe,' the seller said in a statement emailed to The Sacramento Bee. 'We found the perfect family home with two wings — one for the kids, one for us — on a gated estate that provided us privacy, security, and peace of mind.' Compass did not disclose the name of the seller. The home at 708 Champagne Road is under the ownership of Chapter Six LLC, according to public records. The other property's ownership is listed as Duck House LLC. With their children grown up, the owners are moving on to the next chapter in life. 'We will miss sentimental walks around the property admiring the rose garden and fairytale landscaping, unwinding in our spa in the master bedroom, and going to sleep listening to the stream outside,' the owner said. The residence at 714 Champagne Road also has meticulously landscaped grounds with teeming gardens and winding pathways. It has seven spacious bedrooms, including a charming bunk room, seven bathrooms and a separate pool house. Inside, there's a home theater that offers cutting-edge technology and plush seating. From soaring ceilings to grand fireplaces, to smooth integration of indoor and outdoor spaces, the home exudes fine craftsmanship and careful detail. 'Whether hosting elegant gatherings or savoring quiet moments in nature, this alpine retreat captures the very essence of elevated Tahoe living,' the property listing states.
