Wispy bangs are back! Here's how to make them work for you

Vogue Singapore09-06-2025
Whether curtain or full, wavy or wispy, bangs have been everywhere in 2025. Favoured by influential stars including Sabrina Carpenter, Keke Palmer, Elizabeth Olsen and Alexa Chung, fringes are back at the top of the hair agenda. Wispy bangs–defined by thin and floaty strands that gently frame the face—are a particularly stellar choice for the summer, and they're super easy to style, too. What are wispy bangs?
'Cutting in wispy bangs adds definition and angularity to the face, without having to commit to a blockier fringe,' explains Lucy Jones, a hairstylist at Larry King. 'They add a sultry '70s aesthetic to your look (think Suki Waterhouse), and can be worn with straight, curly or coily hair.' View this post on Instagram
A post shared by Larry King (@larrykinghair) How are wispy bangs created in a salon?
'When asking for wispy bangs to be cut, ensure that the desired section of hair is not too thick or too wide,' Jones advises. 'A small triangle is taken from the hair parting and aligned at the bridge of the eyebrows—this ensures that the width suits your natural face shape,' she adds.
'The centre section should be cut a little shorter than the rest of the fringe, enabling the hair to effortlessly fall around the face—the shorter point should be central, and the bridge of your nose is a good guide for this. The aim is to be left with longer pieces around the bridge of the brows and slightly shorter pieces in the centre of your face. I would then use a medium-size round brush, Larry King Volumizing Hair Mist and a hairdryer to style it.'
Jones's tip? 'I like to spritz the brush before drying the hair. Then, I roll the bangs over the brush and blow-dry it on a low heat and low speed, as this gives you more control.' If you prefer your bangs with a little bounce, lift the brush slightly, and if you want it to hang loosely and closer to the face, pull the brush down. To set it all in place, blast the hair with a cold shot and gently roll the brush away from the face. Jones also recommends using your hands to 'manipulate your bangs to achieve the desired finish'. What face shape is good for wispy bangs?
According to Jones, oval or heart-shaped faces work really well for this look, as wispy bangs accentuate the cheekbones. 'My favourite wispy bang styles are paired with rock and roll waves, or even a cute topknot on days when you don't have time to blow out your hair.' It's an easy way to freshen up your look without having to commit to a more daring transformation. 'They also look divine on a natural, curly cut, and add even more structure around the face and eyes.'

At Wimbledon, the best fashion is on the court

Over in London, Wimbledon is well underway, and we—as per usual—are keeping our eyes trained on the stands for the finest celebrity fashions. (Hello, Olivia Rodrigo, Louis Partridge, and Cate Blanchett!) But this year, the court is rivaling the stands in terms of style. Wimbledon is known to have the strictest player dress code amongst the Grand Slam tournaments. Competitors are required to wear almost entirely white ('White does not include off white or cream,' they clarify on their website). But that isn't stopping the likes of Coco Gauff and Lorenzo Musetti, both of whom made strong fashion statements with their court-appropriate looks. Think exacting tenniscore, from the real deal. Coco Gauff hit the court in an ultra-feminine New Balance kit. Getty Yesterday, Gauff hit the court in an ultra-feminine New Balance kit—a pleated kilt and a lace tank top embellished with 3D butterflies. No stone went unturned with her outfit, right down to the sweet, lettuce-trimmed socks that peeked out from her white and mint-green tennis shoes. Goff, fresh off her French Open title, lost the match to Ukrainian player Dayana Yastremska, but at least her kit got its moment in the sun. Italian player Lorenzo Musetti walked onto the court in a white Bottega Veneta jacket. Getty Gauff isn't the only player who worked within the confines of the Wimbledon dress code to deliver a head-turning look. Yesterday, Italian player Lorenzo Musetti walked onto the court in a white Bottega Veneta jacket in the label's signature intrecciato leather weave—another hint at what we can expect from creative director Louise Trotter. While Musetti also lost his match to the Georgian player Nikoloz Basilashvili, not all is lost: Musetti was named a Bottega Veneta global ambassador. Talk about a serve! Emma Stone enchants with her grown out pixie crop

We've seen the beauty realm evolve in a multitude of ways over the past decade. Long gone are the days when celebrity beauty ops would be dedicated solely to the red carpet with techniques used often obscured from the public eye. We've fast moved on to an aspirational age of social media: how-to tutorials by the professional artists themselves, established content creators sharing their own cosmetic hacks and even full-face routines by some of the biggest A-listers. And we've all emerged the better for it. It's undeniable—the likes of Instagram and TikTok have given us all a space for unabashed self-expression. And for some, an artfully made-up mien or a customised change of talons are the perfect canvases to do so. Pop culture has had significant influence in the sphere. Experimentation is abound, with novice creators and popular personalities alike attempting to ace a make-up look that is all the rage or share a thematic one-off look for others to recreate. Then begs the question: how do we sieve out the best of all? Make-up trends surely begin somewhere, and learning from our seasoned celebrities is never a bad place to start if you're feeling overwhelmed. Vogue Singapore might be of help to you on that front—with our monthly curation of captivating beauty moments, courtesy of our favourite faces from Hollywood, the K-pop scene and more, just for that fresh jazz of inspiration. This month, June heralded the start of the northern summer—and there's plenty of pointers to heed for a seasonal beauty refresh. Celebrities like Sofia Richie Grainge and Somi make stunning cases for the chic bob haircut, while Emma Stone's grown out pixie crop is as alluring as it was when she debuted it. Conversely, on the beauty front, Jodie Comer and Nara Smith opted for romantic shades of berry pink and dusty rose for their Mediterranean make-up looks. For more on these looks, scroll down to see the month's celebrity beauty highlights: @ninapark 1 / 14 Emma Stone The allure of Emma's angelic pixie crop is only enhanced by Nina Park's make-up artistry. Pairing prettily with her tousled strands, a classic jet-black eyeliner and mascara combination adds a touch of definition to her warm-toned base. Getty 2 / 14 Jenna Ortega As the second season of Wednesday draws closer, Jenna Ortega looked every part the gothic glamour girl at Netflix's Tudum event. Her hair stylist Cesar Ramirez '[drew] inspiration from vintage hairstyles [in] homage to iconic Hollywood' while creating this defined-curl hair look. @sofiagrainge 3 / 14 Sofia Richie Grainge The razor-sharp bob remains an eternally chic crop. Just ask Sofia Richie Grainge, who debuted her own 'French bob' at the hands of hair stylist George Curran while on holiday in the South of France. @somsomi0309 4 / 14 Somi Another star making the case for the classy chop is Somi. Poised to make a comeback with her new song Extra next month, she shows off her own shortened locks in a promotional still. @simoneashley 5 / 14 Simone Ashley The picture of grace in Barcelona, Simone pairs her polka-dotted ensemble with a ballerina bun and cheekbones sculpted in deep cherry. @sabrinacarpenter 6 / 14 Sabrina Carpenter Her upcoming album Man's Best Friend has been a hot topic in pop culture this month. But we think Sabrina's sweet curls, pictured here on the set of her Manchild music video, are also deserving of recognition. @ninapark 7 / 14 Mia Goth Trust celebrity make-up artist Nina Park to serve up a bombshell-worthy beauty look. On Mia Goth, a winged smokey eye, Old Hollywood waves and a dusty pink pout more than fulfil this criteria. @naraaziza 8 / 14 Nara Smith A pregnant Nara Smith certainly radiates a certain glow while holidaying on the Amalfi Coast. A berry-tinged base from flushed cheeks to glossy lips seals the deal. @aespa_official 9 / 14 Aespa's Winter An Aespa comeback being nigh is always a signifier of experimental beauty looks to take note of. This time around, our favourite is these tight curls seen on Winter. Talk about volume up. @katseyeworld 10 / 14 Katseye's Manon Feeling blue has never looked better. Manon of Katseye co-ordinates her knitwear with some subtly placed, technicolour eye accoutrements. @tatemcrae 11 / 14 Tate McRae Whilst on tour, Tate McRae treats us to a close-up look at her glamorous beauty details—hyper-dramatic lashes, iridescent eyelids and a classic white manicure radiate the songstress' look-at-me energy. @jin_a_nana 12 / 14 Nana How to pull off a perfectly edgy beauty look for the Valentino fashion show? If you're Nana, you'll do so with wet-look locks, an insouciantly tightlined gaze, and the Valentino Puffer Gloss in tow. @jodiemcomer 13 / 14 Jodie Comer We've been loving taking in the soft yet impactful make-up seen on Jodie Comer whilst she does press for 28 Years Later. Seen here in Paris, make-up artist Naoko Sofia Patrizia Scintu created her classic beauty base, whilst hair stylist Christian Wood tended to her wavy tresses. @konichan7 14 / 14 Nana Komatsu For a Chanel event, Nana matches her vampy fit to tousled hair and lashings of jet-black liner to make an arresting impression.
