The BJP planned to commemorate the occasion with Shiv Aarti events throughout Mumbai during the weekend, including at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park.
Meanwhile, MNS chief Raj Thackeray called on the govt to immediately demolish all unauthorized constructions on 11 of the forts, irrespective of the encroachers' religion or caste. The Congress thanked Unesco while critiquing the Prime Minister.
Chief minister Fadnavis stated that he, along with his deputies Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, met Prime Minister Modi to request his support in securing the Unesco designation for the forts, thereby elevating them on the world tourism map as a proud manifestation of Marathi heritage.
Shinde commented, "It is a big achievement for us and a pride for Maharashtra. I thank PM Modi and the chief minister who took the initiative to make it successful.
"
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) founder Sharad Pawar remarked, "This is not merely a historical honour, but a mark of glory that underscores the global significance of the forts that stand as witnesses to our Swarajya. Now, Chhatrapati's history will not remain confined to our textbooks but will become a subject of global study…. Heartfelt thanks to the Government of India, the Archaeological Department, and history scholars for this historic achievement!"
Congress's Maharashtra president Harshwardhan Sapkal stated, "Unesco's recognition of the glorious history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is a matter of pride and honour for the entire nation.
But unfortunately, it is a tragedy for this country that Modi feels ashamed even to mention the name of our Maharaj, whose glory is celebrated worldwide! UNESCO took timely action, which is good; otherwise, the Modi govt would have handed over these historical forts to Adani as well.
"
Raj Thackeray urged the govt to demolish unauthorised constructions on the eleven forts, as he tweeted in Marathi and English: "…Out of these twelve forts, eleven are in Maharashtra and one fort, the fort of Jinji, is in Tamil Nadu.

On this occasion, those who talk about Maharashtra's achievements will know how far the idea of Swarajya instilled by Maharaj had reached and will also know how old and strong the bridge between two languages and cultures is.
"
Responding to Raj Thackeray, BJP minister Ashish Shelar stated on Twitter, "We have issued a govt resolution to form a committee under the chairmanship of District Collectors to remove encroachments. A survey of encroachments on all forts has been completed by January 31, 2025, and some have been removed, while action is ongoing for others."

Kamal Nath claims 2023 assembly poll results influenced by 8% fake voters

Bhopal: Former chief minister Kamal Nath on Saturday alleged that BJP won the 2023 assembly election through fake voters. He said that in the 2018 assembly poll, both Congress and BJP got nearly the same percentage of votes. But in the next election, while Congress' vote percentage remained constant, BJP's vote numbers increased by 8%. Now, it has been revealed that 8 to 10% of voters in the state would be reduced when voter identification is linked to Aadhar cards. Linking of voters to Aadhar cards would be completed before the 2028 assembly election by the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India). Taking to X, Kamal Nath said, "It has come to light that there are approximately 55-57 lakh fake voters in Madhya Pradesh. This number accounts for about 8-10% of the total voters in the state. Based on these very voters, the Madhya Pradesh Assembly election of 2023 was conducted." He argued, "Even before the election, the Congress Party repeatedly complained to the Election Commission (EC) about the presence of a large number of fake voters. The Congress Party also raised complaints about cases where more than a hundred voters were registered at a single address and provided photographs of the houses to the EC. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Tại sao CFD tiền mã hóa có thể phù hợp với danh mục đầu tư của bạn IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Unfortunately, at that time, no appropriate action was taken against these fake voters. " Nath reasoned that in 2018, the vote percentage of Congress and the BJP was almost equal, at around 40%. "And in the 2023 assembly election, Congress's vote percentage remained around 40%, whereas the BJP's vote percentage saw a sudden jump of 8%. Is it merely a coincidence that the number of voters now being reported as fake corresponds closely to the additional 8% votes that the BJP received in the 2023 Assembly election?" the Congress veteran asked. This report that 8% to 10% of voters would be reduced when 100% of voters are linked to Aadhar cards makes it clear that the results of the 2023 Assembly election in Madhya Pradesh are not beyond the realm of suspicion, he said. "Later, a similar issue of large-scale voter inflation was raised in Maharashtra by the Lok Sabha LOP Rahul Gandhi himself. Time has now come for the public to become fully aware of their voting rights and ensure that every eligible voter registers their name and the names of ineligible individuals are removed," Kamal Nath said. "It is also clear here that the identification of fake voters is possible because their voter ID cards are being linked with Aadhaar cards. Therefore, the EC must, under all circumstances, include the Aadhaar card as a mandatory document for voter identification," he added. MSID:: 122408723 413 |

Blatant negligence: Activists slam delay in Assam coal mine tragedy report

Pressure is mounting on the Assam government to make public the judicial enquiry report into the Umrangso coal mine tragedy, over six months after nine workers died in a flooded illegal mine in Dima Hasao incident, which occurred on January 6, 2025, triggered a massive 44-day operation involving the Indian Navy and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had assured that the commission would submit its report within three months. However, six months later, the findings remain under wraps, sparking fresh outrage among rights groups and locals. Daniel Langthasa, convenor of the Sixth Schedule Protection Committee and a former member of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC), lashed out at the government for the delay.'The commission was given three months. Six months have passed, but the government has not shared the report. There is no update, and those responsible for the illegal mining that caused this tragedy are yet to be punished,' he a 2014 ban by the National Green Tribunal, rat-hole mining - a hazardous and outdated method - continues unchecked across Umrangso.A post-tragedy survey found at least 220 illegal rat-hole coal mines operating in the area. Langthasa questioned the role of the BJP-ruled NCHAC, asking, 'How could the council be unaware of 220 mines? This is blatant negligence, if not complicity.'So far, only one person - Punish Nunisa - has been arrested in the case, but activists fear he is being made a scapegoat. They allege a larger, more powerful network of illegal mining operators remains the Chief Minister had earlier announced that all illegal mines would be identified and shut down with help from central agencies, locals say little has changed on the ground. 'There is no visible action. Illegal mining continues. The government must act,' Langthasa also linked the illegal mining ecosystem to broader law and order issues in the insurgency-hit district. Pointing to a rise in kidnappings, mysterious deaths and drug abuse, he accused the NCHAC of failing to protect tribal land and allowing the quiet transfer of protected land to private coke plant operators without village council the situation a 'social crisis,' Langthasa warned of long-term consequences. World recognises 2 infinite powers of India — demography and democracy: PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said India's two strengths are its demography and democracy, with the country being the most populous and the largest democracy in the world. In a virtual address during Rozgar Mela, after distributing over 51,000 appointment letters to youths, the PM said his government's welfare schemes, be it building over four crore houses for the poor, distributing over 10 crore new LPG connections or the rooftop solar programme, have created lakhs of new employment opportunities, and so have a host of other initiatives that led to growth in manufacturing sector. Exhorting the youth to work hard for the nation, he said the motto should be 'citizens first', and underlined that their careers would be the most important phase of 'Amrit Kaal' for the country. 'The world acknowledges today that India possesses two infinite powers. One is demography, the other is democracy. In other words, the largest youth population and the largest democracy,' he said. Asserting that the country has progressed in every field in the past 11 years, PM Modi said electronic manufacturing had risen over five times and mobile manufacturing units have increased to nearly 300 from two to four earlier. Noting that over 25 crore people were lifted out of poverty in the past 10 years, the PM said it would not have happened but for the employment and sources of income generated for them. Citing an International Labour Organization report, Modi said over 90 crore people were covered under the ambit of welfare schemes in the last decade. The worth of defence production has gone beyond `1.25 lakh crore, he said, adding that India is now on the way to becoming the third-largest economy. Defence manufacturing is being discussed proudly after Operation Sindoor, he said in an apparent reference to the display of India's indigenous military capability during the conflict with Pakistan. The government, he said, was focusing on creating new employment opportunities through the Employment Linked Incentive Scheme, under which people in their first job in the private sector would be given `15,000 by the government. He added that this is expected to help create about 3.5 crore new jobs.
