MANILA: Vice President Sara Duterte has returned to the Philippines on Saturday (June 14) after her trip to Malaysia, her office said.
Duterte was in Malaysia for a 'personal trip' and joined Filipinos in an Independence Day celebration in Kuala Lumpur last Thursday.
'Vice President Sara Z. Duterte returned to the Philippines on Saturday, 14 June 2025, arriving at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) at around 5:43am via Philippine Airlines flight no. PR 530,' her office said in a bulletin.
'The Vice President is scheduled to attend the 2025 Pasidungog awarding ceremony in Davao City on Monday, 16 June 2025,' it added.
Joining Duterte at the Independence Day celebration in Malaysia's capital were Sens. Robin Padilla and Imee Marcos as well as Partido Demokratiko Pilipino officials and former senatorial bets Jimmy Bondoc, Jayvee Hinlo and Richard Mata. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has initiated investigation and recorded statements from an individual in connection with a racially charged post uploaded on his social media account. According to the commission, the post allegedly contained racial remarks in reference to the recent appointment of the new Lieutenant General of the Malaysian Armed Forces, which carried a provocative narrative with the potential to disrupt national unity and harmony. "As part of the investigation, the individual was called in to give a statement and assist with inquiries. "MCMC also seized one mobile phone and one SIM card to aid the investigation," said MCMC in a statement on Tuesday. (July 1) It added the case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588) which provides for a maximum fine of RM500,000 or imprisonment of up to two years, or both, upon conviction. The commission also reminded the public to not upload, share or disseminate any content that touches on religious, racial, or royal institution sensitivities (3R), especially those that could divide society and threaten national harmony. "MCMC remains committed to ensuring that Malaysia's cyberspace remains safe, secure and respected, in line with efforts to strengthen national unity and harmony among the country's multiracial citizens," the commission added. Earlier, in a now-deleted Facebook post, Sungai Buloh PAS division chief Zaharudin Muhammad suggested that the appointment of Major General Datuk Johnny Lim Eng Seng as the first ethnic Chinese Lt Gen will open the door for Malaysia to "have its first Chinese prime minister 30 to 40 years from now". Lim, a Melaka-born officer, had served in the military for 41 years, and said he had joined the army in 1984 to help contain the communist insurgency. (ends)

TOKYO: Asian shares crept higher and the dollar languished near multi-year lows on Tuesday as markets awaited a vote over U.S. President Donald Trump's landmark tax and spending legislation. Global shares reached an intraday record on Monday on trade optimism, but a marathon debate in the Senate over a bill estimated to add $3.3 trillion to the United States' debt pile weighed on sentiment. Japan's Nikkei gauge of shares sank as much as 1.1% as the yen climbed. Oil fell for a second consecutive session and gold advanced. A vote on Trump's sweeping tax-cut and spending bill had been expected during the Asian trading day on Tuesday, but debate raged on over a long series of amendments by Republicans and the minority Democrats. Trump wants the bill passed before the July 4 Independence Day holiday. As global trade negotiators scramble to get deals done before Trump's tariff deadlines, investors are also anticipating key U.S. labour market data on Thursday. RM200k flood mitigation project approved for Kg Melayu Bukit Batu
KULAI: A flood mitigation project worth RM200,000 has been approved for Kampung Melayu Bukit Batu under the Kulai parliamentary's 'mesra rakyat' allocation. The initiative follows four flood incidents this year, causing significant damage to homes and distress among residents. Kulai Member of Parliament Teo Nie Ching stated that the project will enhance the drainage system to reduce future flood risks. 'Work has already begun, and I appreciate the cooperation of technical agencies and the local community. Protecting Kulai residents remains my priority,' she said in a Facebook post today. Kampung Melayu Bukit Batu is identified as a high-risk flood zone due to an outdated drainage system unable to handle heavy rainfall. Earlier this year, over 50 homes were submerged up to knee level, prompting urgent action from villagers and the Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK). Residents and JPKK representatives formally raised the issue with local authorities and Teo on April 14, seeking a long-term solution to the recurring floods.
