"That's where this is going": Dave Meltzer doesn't hold back on the future of WWE
Dave Meltzer (Image via YouTube)
Dave Meltzer is a renowned name in the world of wrestling, having been associated with it for decades. The sports historian and wrestling journalist has been the publisher and editor of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, known to everyone as WON, since 1983, and has made his reputation into something revered, especially in the world of sports journalism.
So when he shares his opinion, it's bound to have listeners. And his latest take on how advertising is taking over wrestling is one of those.
Dave Meltzer's take on
advertising in WWE
Dave Meltzer says it like he sees it. He has not been called "the most accomplished reporter in sports journalism" just because he can cover a story well. He has been in this industry for long enough to know when and how things begin to make an impact. And recently, he spoke of how advertising is becoming a big part of
WWE
, maybe more than it should. A recent post on his dirtsheet read:
'I expect ads on ring gear soon.
Seriously. That's not a joke. That's where this is going. There's no limit to it. If there's a blank space on screen, TKO wants to monetize it.'
With the way TKO Holdings has been monetizing the
WWE
is something quite a few people have spoken about. The parent company that runs the WWE is profit-minded like any other, and advertisements have been a big part of that. Maybe Meltzer's view is not too far off, as they have already been using ads on the ring and the screens. Maybe ring gears are next; who knows!
Fans react to Dave Meltzer's latest take
Fans are, of course, quick to make memes and add funny anecdotes to anything that happens. The Internet did its thing this time around as well, and as soon as the Wrestling Observer Newsletter post went online,
WWE
fans made sure to share their thoughts on the matter. From people saying it's just the way of the corporate, to some criticizing TKO, everyone had a cent to add to the conversation.
While the chicken wing Dom idea is funny, is this really where wrestling is moving towards? What do the fans really have to say about this?

"I'm just getting started": Rhea Ripley sends a strong message after victory over Raquel Rodriguez at WWE Night of Champions
Rhea Ripley (Image Source: Getty) Rhea Ripley shows up in one of the hardest-fought matches of her career, defeating Raquel Rodriguez in a brutal Street Fight at the WWE Night of Champions. In front of a raucous crowd inside the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the bitter rivals and former tag team partners went to war. Ripley finished the hard-hitting war after just 20 minutes, capping off a brutal night with an Avalanche Riptide through a table that sent a message to every girl backstage and fans around the globe: 'I'm a 28-year-old veteran and I'm just getting started.' Rhea Ripley pushes through pain and betrayal It wasn't only a contest of strength; the match was a personal war. Once upon a time, Ripley and Rodriguez ruled the women's tag division until their partnership wilted under the weight of inflated egos and ambition. Rodriguez started in the larger body here, and she quickly utilized that size to bully her way to the front. But Ripley, as usual, clawed and scraped. Things were relatively calm until halfway through the match when Roxy's Judgment Day partner, Rhea Ripley, interfered on her behalf, but only to get booted in the face by Ripley. At this point, it was obvious Ripley wished to do so on her terms. Ripley battled through pain and blood, much of it visible, including severe bruising around her ribs from repeated kendo stick shots, to work through the match. The conclusion of the bout saw a stunning Avalanche Riptide from the top rope and Rodriguez being sent through a table to take the three count. Ripley got up after the bell—bloodied but unbowed. The same fierce gaze she had always given was dulled by neither satisfaction nor hunger for what fades before her. Rhea Rhipley eyes championship gold and SummerSlam With Iyo Sky holding the Women's World Championship, the groundwork is laid for a title match at SummerSlam. With the win, Ripley has reclaimed her momentum, and the message is clear: WWE's women's division is on notice. Also Read: WWE Night of Champions 2025 Results: Rhea Ripley rips through Raquel Rodriguez to win the Street Fight From rivalries to brutality to championship pursuit, Rhea Ripley announced to the world that she isn't finished yet. But her victory against Rodriguez was no ordinary victory—it was a declaration of war not just for Rodriguez but for anyone in the way of her title shot. And if her words are anything to be believed, this is only the start. Game On Season 1 continues with Mirabai Chanu's inspiring story. Watch Episode 2 here.

"No idea how this will end": Referee Charles Robinson shaken as John Cena crosses line at WWE Night of Champions
At the WWE Night of Champions 2025, referee Charles Robinson has seen just about everything that can happen inside a ring, but even the longest-serving official in the company's history was unprepared for the shocking turn John Cena took on June 28. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Shortly thereafter, Robinson took to Instagram, posting a vague yet troubling message, sparking concern amongst fans and those in the know: 'No idea how this will end @wwe #nightofchampions. Loved my time in #saudi. #wrestling #running #crash' The post, which has since taken off, has left many wondering what it all truly meant and the series of chaotic events that led to this point. John Cena's shocking move against referee Charles Robinson When chaos reigned supreme inside the arena during the Undisputed WWE Championship main event featuring John Cena and then-WWE Champion CM Punk. When the match official was taken out by a collision, Seth Rollins and his crew capitalised on the opportunity to interfere. Or so it seemed when Rollins had Charles Robinson come out as a backup referee, with the idea being that this would ensure Punk won. But then, something happened that stunned everyone. As soon as Robinson had arrived at the ring, John Cena ran down the ramp and tackled him to the floor, ensuring that the match would not go as Rollins intended. The action was particularly aggressive for Cena, and brought both boos and gasps from the audience. This was a rare combination that led to a sense of stunned silence that didn't last long. Fallout and growing uncertainty Charles Robinson, also known by the name of "Little Naitch," has been a longtime WWE referee for decades. An Instagram post of his saying, "No idea how this will finish," has led to talk about whether the incident will have taken a toll on him mentally and physically. That boundary between scripted action and real life has never felt thinner It may signal a change in John Cena's character heading into the remainder of his farewell tour. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now You would have never guessed that the "never give up" kid who was once the embodiment of integrity and respect would seemingly reveal a darker, unpredictable side. That another character is attacking a referee — a line that even the most villainous superstars barely ever step over — raises the stakes of the Cena storyline even further. Also Read: With SummerSlam on the horizon, WWE has a lot of questions to answer. Will Cena be held liable for those actions? Will he bounce back, and if so, how? And in such a charged atmosphere and with the WWE Universe so pumped up, Robinson's ominous words might hit harder than anyone would have thought they would.
