First Amarnath Yatra Batch To Leave Today Amid Tight Security
While the 38-day-long Yatra will formally start on Thursday, Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, who is also the chairman of the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board, will flag off the first batch of pilgrims towards the twin base camps at Pahalgam and Baltal on Wednesday.
The Yatra route from both Pahalgam and Baltal axis has been declared as no-fly zone due to serious security concerns following terrorist attack on tourists on April 22 in Pahalgam.
The attackers have not been found till date. A massive anti-terror operation has failed to track down three Pakistani terrorists behind the attack that claimed 26 lives.
About 600 additional companies of paramilitary forces have been mobilised for security, making it the highest-ever deployment for the Yatra security.
The security situation in Kashmir after Pahalgam attack has impacted Yatra as well. There is a drop in Yatra registration even as authorities are trying their best to woo more yatris.
The government has organised free bus service and other logistical arrangements for yatris from Jammu to base camps in Baltal and Pahalgam.
Hundreds of J&K government employees from key departments like health, water supplies and power are involved in the Yatra arrangements to ensure a smooth pilgrimage.
Baltal to cave shrine is shortest route of 14 km against traditional Pahalgam route which is 48 km long.

Amarnath Yatra: Over 5500 pilgrims leave Jammu-based camp as LG Sinha flags off first batch
Jammu, July 2 (UNI) More than 5500 pilgrims chanting 'Bam Bam Bhole' today morning left for Shri Amarnath Cave Shrine situated in Anantnag district of Kashmir here from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas base camp. The yatra was flagged off by the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in the presence of senior administrative and police officials and the members of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board. Officials said that a total of 5892 pilgrims this morning left in a fleet of 310 vehicles comprising light motor vehicles and heavy motor vehicles for the twin Pahalgam and Baltal routes. For Pahalgam, 2489 pilgrims, and for Baltal, 3403 pilgrims left from the base camp, they added. Meanwhile the chants of 'Bam Bam Bhole' echoed in the air early in the morning as the yatra was flagged off with religious fervour and devotion. Enthusiasm was visible among the devotees who boarded the buses for onwards journeys. Chanting 'Bam Bam Bhole' and 'Har Har Mahadev', the devotees expressed happiness at the start of the yatra. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said, "flagged off the first batch of pilgrims of Shri Amarnath Yatra from Bhagwati Nagar Base Camp. Wishing all spiritual seekers a safe and comfortable journey to the holy abode of Lord Shiva and a deeply soul-stirring experience. Prayed to Baba Amarnath for peace and blessings to all." Meanwhile, a senior official said that 60 RFID centres are established at five prominent districts in the Jammu region. He also added that the yatra will be allowed only via road under proper regulation by the administration and security forces, adding that elaborate arrangements have been put in place in the Bhagwati Nagar Yatra camp, where the Yatris will arrive before leaving in convoys for the Baltal and Pahalgam base camps. A total of 141 lodgment centres have also been established in Jammu Division with adequate civic amenities and security arrangements, while 52 langars and 60 RFID centres are made functional in Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Udhampur and Ramban Districts, and five registration centres with a token centre at Saraswati Dham are also made operational in Jammu, he added. Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], July 2 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha participated in a special aarti at the Jammu Tawi riverfront. Sinha also visited the Amarnath Yatri Niwas base camp on Tuesday evening. After inspecting the Yatri Niwas base camp, Sinha stated that the security arrangements for the Yatra are more robust than ever before. 'I have witnessed the last four Yatras. The arrangements are better than ever, as far as the security and convenience of pilgrims are concerned... The manner in which pilgrims have come here from across the country - till now, more than 5,000 people have arrived here. I hope that in the days to come, this number will further increase... The response is going to be really good,' he said. On Tuesday, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, VK Birdi, said that comprehensive security and administrative arrangements have been put in place to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage for the Amarnath Yatra beginning from July 3. Speaking to ANI, IGP Kashmir Zone VK Birdi said, 'In a few days, Amarnath Yatra will begin. J&K Police and the administration have made elaborate arrangements. From a security perspective, we have also implemented multi-layered and in-depth arrangements for how the police and other security forces respond to various security scenarios. Rehearsals and mock drills will also be performed.' Ahead of the Amarnath Yatra, which is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, security forces have been deployed in key areas, including Ramban and Pahalgam, to conduct robust patrols and inspections, ensuring the safety and security of pilgrims. Security officials inspected arrangements ahead of the commencement of the Amarnath Yatra in Anantnag, Banihal, Ramban, and other key areas. The revered Amarnath Yatra will commence through the Baltal and Pahalgam routes. The Jammu-Srinagar Highway is one of the vital routes for thousands of pilgrims. The CRPF intensified surveillance, deployed K-9 (dog) squads alongside its personnel along the vital Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, a key route used by thousands of pilgrims, and strengthened highway patrols, with a special focus on sensitive stretches, such as the Udhampur sector. The first batch of pilgrims will be flagged off from the Jammu base camp on July 2, while the Yatra will officially begin today via both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes. (ANI)
