In a statement, JPP stressed that the voter list for the 2025 party polls was prepared transparently based on the latest membership data provided by the Secretary-General's Office and verified through an electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) process. 'The claim that JPP ignored complaints and objections is untrue and regrettable,' committee deputy chairman Datuk Ahmad Kasim said, adding that all such matters were handled professionally and in line with party regulations. The committee noted that the party's election regulations were endorsed by the Central Leadership Council and the Political Bureau in February and March respectively, with Rafizi himself part of both bodies. Under these rules, any objections or appeals must be backed by sufficient evidence, with the burden of proof resting on the party submitting the challenge. A total of 289 objections and complaints were received throughout various stages of the election, including nominations, appeals, and voting, with some referred to the Secretary-General's Office or the Disciplinary Board for further action. JPP said every complaint has been or will be officially addressed in line with principles of transparency and accountability, and that regular updates were shared with the MPP throughout the process. The committee also confirmed that the MPP had agreed to re-examine voting results in six branches following objections, with assistance from an international auditor appointed by the party leadership. JPP noted that the audit report, which Rafizi had disseminated, found the e-voting system to be secure and free from irregularities. On Saturday, Rafizi openly criticised the party's election committee led by Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, for what he described as its failure to tackle serious irregularities in the party's internal election process. Speaking at the 'Yang Bakar Menteri: Yang Berhenti Menteri' programme, Rafizi expressed frustration over the committee's alleged inability to screen candidates effectively, including individuals from other political parties who he claimed had managed to contest in PKR's divisional elections. Dr Zaliha has since announced that PKR had expelled 28 members, including elected leaders, for holding membership in other political parties. * Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel(s) for the latest news you don't want to miss. * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? ‘Tech poses challenges in litigation of child porn cases'

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 287 child pornography cases were probed by police between 2021 and 2025, with 90% resulting in prosecution and conviction, Lenggong MP Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah (PH-PKR) told Dewan Rakyat yesterday. The Home deputy minister warned that while this high conviction rate reflects police commitment, emerging digital threats, including AI-generated abuse content, are undermining efforts to bring offenders to justice. 'These manipulated materials weaken evidential value in court,' he said, referring to digitally fabricated images and videos made to appear authentic. 'These offences involve children. We take this very seriously. But this responsibility does not fall on police alone. 'We hope society would also help raise awareness and prevent these crimes from continuing,' he said. He added that despite advances in digital forensics and the ability to trace IP addresses and user identities, prosecution is often hampered by offenders who use masking technologies, such as VPNs, and by tampered or encrypted evidence. 'We also deal with encrypted or manipulated evidence, making forensic verification more difficult.' He said delays in cooperation from international platform providers and the complexities of cross-border evidence gathering further obstruct investigations. Enhancing collaboration with CyberSecurity Malaysia, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the National Digital Department is vital to meet these challenges, he added. 'We will strengthen our capabilities and improve digital forensic training to respond to these evolving cyber threats.' Jerlun MP Abd Ghani (PN-PAS) raised concerns about the increasing presence of sexualised advertisements involving children on digital platforms. 'These ads are becoming increasingly common and may appeal to children's curiosity. Such ads could disturb the public and have a severely negative impact on moral values and mental health,' he said, urging stronger prevention strategies and AI tools to wipe out online pornographic content. He added that MCMC works closely with police to monitor, block and remove such exploitative materials. 'Enforcement is done under various laws, including the Penal Code and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,' he said. Shamsul confirmed that both measures are being pursued. The Malaysia Internet Crime Against Children Unit, under Bukit Aman's Women and Child Investigation Division, has been operational since 2013 and covers 11 departments nationwide. Each state has at least one dedicated investigator and 31 Child Interview Centres are in place across the country. 'The Home Ministry is reviewing laws to close any loopholes, especially in relation to digital material. We cannot remain stagnant. The law must evolve as digital threats do.'

Be Cautious And Responsible When Commenting On Issues Involving Other Countries

KUALA SELANGOR, July 29 (Bernama) -- All parties must exercise caution and responsibility when commenting on issues involving other countries, said Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice-president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. Amirudin, who is also Selangor Menteri Besar, said not every matter should be turned into political capital, stressing that Malaysia's political landscape requires maturity and moderation. He said this when asked to comment on the remarks by PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, who was accused of belittling Malaysia's diplomatic initiative to broker a ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia. He said such remarks reflect the character of irresponsible leaders who should be able to distinguish between political manoeuvres, national sovereignty and the country's future, he noted. 'What is important is that we remain mature in such situations. I heard he has apologised, which is a good step, but if everyone from the outset refrained from twisting issues for political gain, we would be in a far better, peaceful and stable place,' he said. Amirudin was met at the closing ceremony of the 2025 Selangor Menteri Besar's Cup Marching Competition for uniformed units at Universiti Selangor (Unisel), Bestari Jaya campus, here today. Earlier, Ahmad Fadhli, who is also Pasir Mas Member of Parliament, posted on social media an illustration of three animals showing a goat and a sheep fighting over a banana with a monkey as judge, accompanied by the caption, 'the goat and sheep should not need the monkey to mediate in a banana dispute'. The post, which included a screenshot of news on the Thailand-Cambodia conflict, drew public criticism. Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that Thailand and Cambodia had agreed to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire to ease tensions along their disputed border, following a special meeting he chaired in Putrajaya.

Zahid: BN-PH pact for Sabah polls set in stone, others welcome to join

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the coalition's pact with Pakatan Harapan (PH) for the upcoming Sabah state election is final, but they remain open to cooperation with other Sabah-based parties or coalitions. Zahid said that while the cooperation between PH and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) is a mutual agreement between the two coalitions, the partnership between BN and PH is now officially confirmed. "We have finalised our collaborative partnership with PH, which means we are now confirmed as partners for the Sabah state election. "As for PH and GRS, that is a mutual agreement between them, which has also been acknowledged," he told reporters during an inspection of final preparations for the 2025 3D Mega Carnival today. Zahid added that the BN-PH alliance remains open to working with other political parties or coalitions in Sabah. "We will continue to keep the door open for cooperation with other parties or coalitions in Sabah," he said. Yesterday, PKR secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh confirmed the PH-BN alliance in Sabah for the upcoming state polls. She also said PKR welcomes cooperation with any party in facing the Sabah state election. This comes after Sabah Chief Minister and GRS chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor reiterated his commitment to work with Sabah PH for the upcoming state election. He attributed this willingness to work with PH to their leaders' support during the attempt to topple the GRS-led state government in 2023. However, Hajiji said that the people of Sabah should vote wisely to ensure GRS, a local-based coalition, dominates the political scene in the state. Meanwhile, Sabah PKR chief Datuk Mustapha Sakmud had said despite PH eyeing over 20 seats, both coalitions would still have to sit down to negotiate on which seats to contest.
