Crypto-focused Grayscale confidentially files for potential U.S. listing

CNBC10 hours ago
Crypto-focused asset manager Grayscale said on Monday it has confidentially submitted paperwork with the Securities and Exchange Commission, signaling potential plans for a U.S. listing as bitcoin scales new highs.
The move coincides with the start of the "crypto week" in Washington, where lawmakers are set to debate three major bills that could offer long-awaited clarity to the industry.
Investor enthusiasm around the bills, which are expected to pave the way for digital assets to potentially be further integrated into traditional finance, has pushed bitcoin above $120,000 for the first time.
"All the previous crypto cycles were led by retail in absence of regulatory clarity. However, this cycle has been led by institutions," analysts at Bernstein wrote in a note.
Grayscale's announcement comes more than a month after stablecoin giant Circle's blockbuster debut, and could add to a growing cohort of high-profile IPO candidates looking to list in the coming months.
Gemini, a crypto exchange run by billionaire twins Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, is also preparing to go public.
Crypto firms have seen a surge of interest since President Donald Trump returned to the White House. So far this year, shares of crypto giants Coinbase and Strategy have jumped 56% and 50%, respectively.
Grayscale, founded in 2013, manages over $33 billion of assets across more than 35 investment products.
A prominent player in the crypto space, the Stamford, Connecticut-based company also oversees a leading spot bitcoin exchange-traded fund.
The company's legal challenge against the SEC was instrumental in paving the way for the approval of spot bitcoin ETFs last year.
Confidential filings allow companies to withhold details about their finances and offering terms until closer to the actual listing.

In anticipation of Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV (NYSE:BUD)'s July 31 earnings report, Bernstein SocGen Group maintained its Outperform rating on the stock but reduced its price target to €77 from €79 on July 3. Photo by Heshan Perera on Unsplash Though the ultimate impact would rely on offsetting price rises, the firm highlighted a number of reasons for the adjustment, including anticipated margin pressure in Brazil and Mexico during the second half of the year as a result of foreign exchange hedges turning negative. Although Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV (NYSE:BUD) outperformed the overall market in recent scanner data, Bernstein also decreased its forecasts for volume growth in the US due to ongoing market difficulties and lowered its estimations for associate income, notably citing Castel and Efes. Why Trillion-Dollar TSMC Can't Wait for This Week's Earnings Call

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSM) stock, better known as TSMC, is on fire. After surging almost 25% over the past year, it has now joined the exclusive $1 trillion market cap club, one of only ten U.S.-listed companies to do so. This surge reflects a continued shift towards the Internet of Things (IoT) and the propagation of digital devices worldwide. With a key quarterly earnings announcement set for Thursday this week, TSMC stock is likely to experience severe price volatility, both pre- and post-earnings announcement. Make smarter investment decisions with TipRanks' Smart Investor Picks, delivered to your inbox every week. As a manufacturer of integrated circuits and semiconductors, TSMC is in a prime position to capitalize on prominent macro trends. And the semiconductor giant is doing just that. According to the most recent sales figures, there's plenty of spare market capacity to grow into, which keeps me Bullish on TSMC despite its frothy valuation. The Catalyst Behind TSMC's Market Climb TSMC's primary growth driver stems from the explosive growth of AI, which is rapidly reshaping entire industries. As the world's leading chip foundry, TSMC plays a critical role in this transformation, manufacturing the advanced semiconductors that power everything from smartphones to high-performance AI systems. Without TSMC, the AI momentum behind companies like Nvidia (NVDA) and AMD (AMD) would face severe bottlenecks. TSMC's edge lies in its cutting-edge 3nm and 5nm process nodes, keeping it ahead in a highly competitive market. The global demand for AI—from data centers to autonomous vehicles—is set to keep its fabs running at full capacity for years. While its Taiwan-based operations carry some geopolitical risk, its scale remains unmatched, and its gradual expansion into the U.S. helps offset concerns. With AI still in its early innings, TSMC is uniquely positioned to ride the AI wave, cementing its role as a foundational pillar in the ongoing tech revolution. Q2 Results: Proof of the AI Tailwind in Action TSMC's consolidated Q2 results haven't dropped yet. Still, the preliminary figures already paint a powerful picture: revenue surged 40% year-over-year in the first half of 2025, reaching $60.8 billion, fueled largely by insatiable demand for AI chips. June alone brought in NT$263.7 billion ($8.2 billion), up 27% from the same month last year, though it slipped 18% from May due to the usual seasonal dip in smartphone orders. Based on past reports and current industry momentum, I expect advanced technologies—particularly 3nm and 5nm chips—to account for just under 60% of TSMC's wafer revenue. Even more impressive is the company's ability to sustain gross margins above 57%, despite rising energy costs in Taiwan and the financial strain of global expansion. That kind of resilience underscores both its pricing power and operational discipline. In April, TSMC posted earnings per share of $2.14, a 60.4% jump from last year. For Q2, EPS is projected to rise to $2.37, marking a 56% year-over-year gain. These growth figures highlight how efficiently TSMC scales its operations, and with continued strong demand for its cutting-edge nodes, the momentum is likely to carry well into the second half of the year. Why TSM Stock Still Has Legs With a $1 trillion market cap, it's easy to assume TSMC's rally has peaked—but the fundamentals suggest otherwise. Consensus estimates point to full-year EPS of $9.52, representing 35% growth, driven mainly by surging AI demand and TSMC's irreplaceable position at the heart of the semiconductor ecosystem. That puts the stock at a forward P/E of 24—an entirely reasonable valuation considering the strength of its growth and the long runway AI provides for both revenue and earnings expansion. More importantly, this full-year estimate implies a notable deceleration from the explosive EPS growth seen in Q1 and anticipated in Q2. But historically, analysts have tended to underestimate TSMC's performance. If that pattern holds, actual earnings could easily exceed expectations, making the stock look even cheaper and potentially accelerating the current bullish momentum. For context, Nvidia trades at 38x forward earnings. While Nvidia's near-term EPS growth may be steeper, TSMC boasts a similarly powerful competitive moat. And with the broader semiconductor sector also trading at 24x forward earnings, the market is essentially assigning no premium to TSMC, despite its critical role in enabling the entire AI supply chain. What is TSMC's Price Target in 2025? TSM stock is reaching new highs, almost on a daily basis, which explains why Wall Street continues to appoint a Strong Buy consensus rating to the stock. TSMC stock carries a Strong Buy consensus rating based on eight Buy, one Hold, and zero Sell ratings over the past three months. TSMC's average stock price target of $236.38 implies approximately 2.5% upside potential over the next twelve months. TSMC's Growth Story Stays on Trend TSMC's $1 trillion milestone is a significant achievement, but it hardly signals the end of the road. The company has cemented its leadership in AI chip manufacturing, delivered a standout first half of 2025, and still trades at a valuation that suggests plenty of upside. While geopolitical risks and rising costs remain part of the equation, TSMC's scale, cutting-edge technology, and strategic global expansion keep it on a clear growth trajectory. Rather than peaking, TSMC appears to be building momentum. For investors, this represents an opportunity to own a foundational player in the AI revolution. And with demand for its stock likely to stay strong—thanks to its unmatched role in the semiconductor supply chain—the rally looks far from over.

Trump and Sen. Dave McCormick team up to promote energy investments in Pennsylvania

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump and Sen. David McCormick of Pennsylvania will jointly announce roughly $70 billion of energy investments in the state Tuesday as the president travels to Pittsburgh for a conference with dozens of top executives to promote his energy and technology agenda. The Pennsylvania Energy and Innovation Summit will be held at Carnegie Mellon University, and it comes as the state's political and business leaders are working to forge the city into a hub for robotics, artificial intelligence and energy. Trump has repeatedly pledged U.S. 'energy dominance' in the global market, and Pennsylvania — a swing state critical to his wins in 2016 and 2024 — is at the forefront of that agenda, in large part due to its coal industry that the Republican administration has taken several steps to bolster. Neither the White House nor McCormick's office gave breakdowns of the $70 billion or what the investments entail. McCormick, a Republican first-term senator who is organizing the inaugural event, says the summit is meant to bring together top energy companies and AI leaders, global investors and labor behind Trump's energy policies and priorities. He says the investments will spur tens of thousands of jobs in Pennsylvania. 'Pennsylvania is uniquely positioned because of abundant energy, of incredible skilled workers, technology,' McCormick said in a Fox News interview Monday promoting the summit. 'We need to win the battle for AI innovation in America, and Pennsylvania is at the center of it.' The list of participating CEOs includes leaders from global behemoths like Blackstone, SoftBank, Amazon Web Services, BlackRock and ExxonMobil and local companies such as the Pittsburgh-based Gecko Robotics, which deploys AI to bolster energy capacity. Gov. Josh Shapiro, a Democrat, will also attend. Administration officials speaking at the summit include White House crypto czar David Sacks, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Energy Secretary Chris Wright. In the Fox News interview, McCormick credited his wife, Dina Powell McCormick, with the idea for a summit. Powell McCormick served as Trump's deputy national security adviser in his first term and is a former Goldman Sachs executive who is now at BDT & MSD Partners, a merchant bank. Pittsburgh is home to Carnegie Mellon University, a prestigious engineering school, plus a growing industry of small robotics firms and a so-called ' AI Avenue ' that's home to offices for Google and other AI firms. It also sits in the middle of the prolific Marcellus Shale natural gas reservoir. Pennsylvania has scored several big investment wins in recent months, some of it driven by federal manufacturing policy and others by the ravenous need for electricity from the fast-growing AI business. Nippon Steel just bought U.S. Steel for almost $15 billion, getting Trump's approval after pledging to invest billions alone in U.S. Steel's Pittsburgh-area plants. Amazon will spend $20 billion on two data center complexes in Pennsylvania, with more to come, while a one-time coal-fired power plant is being turned into the nation's largest gas-fired power plant to fuel a data center campus. Meanwhile, Microsoft says it is spending $1.6 billion to reopen the lone functional nuclear reactor on Three Mile Island under a long-term power supply agreement for its data centers. Shapiro, elected in 2022, has been pushing for the state to land a big multibillion-dollar industrial project, like a semiconductor factory or an electric vehicle plant. In his first budget speech, Shapiro — who is viewed as a potential White House contender in 2028 — told lawmakers that Pennsylvania needs to 'get in the game' and warned that it would take money. He didn't land a mega project, but he instead has worked to play up big investments by Amazon and Microsoft, as well as Nippon Steel, as he prepares to seek a second term.
