Lewis Capaldi releases emotional new song after two years ahead of 'Glasto set'
Scottish singing sensation Lewis Capaldi has announced his comeback to music with an emotional song about 'surviving' after his two year hiatus amid his battle with mental health and Tourette's Syndrome
Lewis Capaldi has delighted is millions of fans by dropping his first single in two years after he took a hiatus from making music following his last Glastonbury set in 2023.
Ahead of his rumoured secret set at this year's festival in Worthy Farm, the Scottish singer, 28, sent shockwaves on social media when he dropped a teaser for his brand new song in a poignant Instagram video.
The song, titled Survive, clearly means a lot to the BRIT Award winning artist who has faced much turmoil over the past two years after stepping out of the limelight due to his mental health.
Alongside the video, Lewis wrote: "It's been a while." In classic Lewis style, the chart-topping artist's new song is full of emotion with lyrics including "I swear to God I'll survive" and "I'm going to get up and live until the day that I die."
Following his exciting announcement, fans have gone wild as they delight in his long-awaited return to music after he announced in June 2023 that he was taking a break to focus on his mental health after he was diagnosed with Tourette's Syndrome.
Celebrating his comeback, singer Tom Grennan commented: "Welcome back brother." Capital Radio's official Instagram page echoed: "We've missed you." Another fan gushed: "God said "Let there be light" and he gave us our Lewis Capaldi back. Id be lying if I didn't say I wasn't crying. You have been so missed. I love you."
Scottish actor James McAvoy joked: "Holy mother of c**k, it's been a while." While Callum Best added: "Welcome back Lewis, love ya mate." Former X Factor twins Jedward also jumped on the exciting announcement as they wrote: "Best news ever. Missed you."
The timing of Lewis' new music release couldn't be more electric, as he's also slated for a surprise appearance on Glastonbury's iconic Pyramid Stage. A source close to the singer revealed earlier this week: "Lewis took a decent chunk of time away and now he's ready for his fans to hear what he has been working on.
"Tomorrow is a huge day for him. He will be releasing a brand new single and it is his Pyramid Stage performance. He is in a great place and feels ready to come back into the spotlight."
Capaldi's last Pyramid Stage show in 2023 was an emotional rollercoaster, ending prematurely with the star in tears. Reflecting on that moment, he admitted it made him realise he needed to "spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order."
Lewis took a break from singing and touring to focus on his mental and physical health, particularly his Tourette's syndrome and anxiety. He announced an extended break from touring in June 2023, after struggling with his voice during a Glastonbury performance.
The Scottish singer has been open about his Tourette's and the impact it has on his singing and stage presence. After stepping back from the public eye, Lewis quietly began crafting fresh material last year, collaborating with British songwriter Dan D'Lion and was even spotted playing acoustic guitar in the studio.
His musical return follows two chart-topping albums: the 2019 debut Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent and Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent from 2023.
Insiders told the Mirror that Lewis is among a handful of surprise performers at this year's festival. He's reportedly taking the Pyramid Stage at 4:55 pm on Friday. Other secret gigs include Lorde at Woodsies (11:30 am Friday), Olivia Dean and Rachel Chinouriri at Strummerville (8 pm Friday), and CMAT at BBC Introducing (1:30 pm Friday).

TALK OF THE TOWN GLASTONBURY SPECIAL: Did Sophie Turner and her aristocrat boyfriend Peregrine 'Perry' Pearson seal their revived romance with a proposal?
Two months after it was rumoured that they were a couple no more, Game Of Thrones actress Sophie Turner and aristocrat Peregrine 'Perry' Pearson put on a very public display of affection at Glastonbury. What's more, my spies at the festival saw the willowy actress wearing two rings on her ring finger, raising the question of whether Perry could have popped the question when they reconciled their differences? Either way, the glamorous couple looked very much in love in Glastonbury's VIP hospitality bar, holding hands and laughing with friends. Sophie, 29, had reportedly told friends she was single in April, after unfollowing 30-year-old Pearson on Instagram. The pair first sparked rumours of a reconciliation last week when they were spotted having lunch together in London – news apparently confirmed by their 'smitten' behaviour at Worthy Farm. Pearson, a property developer, is the heir to the 16,500-acre Cowdray estate, in Midhurst, Sussex and to the title Viscount Cowdray. As the daughter of a nursery teacher and a pallet distribution company worker, Turner had more humble beginnings. She shot to fame as a teenager after she was cast as Sansa Stark in Game Of Thrones. The actress and the artiso were first seen together in Paris in October 2023 as Turner was going through a bitter divorce from American pop star Joe Jonas – father of her two daughters, Willa, five, and Delphine, three – after four years of marriage. Jonas and Sophie wed at the elegant Château de Tourreau in Provence – but perhaps a ceremony at Cowdray House would prove even more glamorous… Matt's Crown of hair returns The last time I saw The Crown star Matt Smith – at Kensington Roof Gardens, no less – he was sporting a controversial Mohawk haircut. He told me then that his friends 'wouldn't stop teasing him' over the punk look he'd adopted for a movie role. But now, after seeing him stride through Glastonbury, I'm glad to report he has grown his hair out. Have his pals stopped the mockery? 'Yes, finally,' the Doctor Who star laughs. It's just how glam Sam Cam jams... I spied former Prime Minister's wife Samantha Cameron sitting pretty with some bright young things at the Park Stage's VIP bar. Dressed in a £340 green V-neck dress from her label Cefinn, Adidas Superstar trainers and a bum bag, left, she looked worlds away from the hallowed – if rather stuffy – halls of Westminster. Her husband, meanwhile, was nowhere to be seen. 'Glastonbury is not really his vibe,' an insider tells me. 'He prefers Wilderness.' The festival, taking place near his Oxfordshire home next month, is so well-to-do it's been dubbed 'Poshstock'. How very apt... Cara Delevingne is back at her beloved Glastonbury, but this year she's sober – and skipping the selfies. The model politely turned down a fan photo at ultra-lux glampsite The Pop-Up Hotel, declaring she wasn't wearing make-up... although she has posted pictures au naturel before. But surely she won't make it through a whole festival without being snapped? Adele's party palace Glastonbury isn't the only place pop stars can let off steam. A music industry insider tells me Adele has bought a new multi-million-pound house on the beach in the Turks and Caicos Islands to add to her four Beverly Hills properties and several more in London. Rumour has it that the Grammy-winning star's latest mansion is famous for hosting wild parties. Though I hear the 37-year-old singer has one very strict house rule: leave your phones at the door. If you don't, she won't go easy on you, baby… Romeo Beckham's ex, Mia Regan has appeared in plenty of glamorous photoshoots over the years for the likes of Gucci and Prada. But that's not how new boyfriend Henry O'Sullivan likes to picture her. My Glasto spies saw him wearing a badge showing Mia ungraciously eating corn on the cob... although finding somewhere to pin it proved difficult, right. While the couple looked loved up, Romeo was missing in action – apparently laying low after his split from Kim Turnbull, who may be doing a DJ set at the festival. From Becks to decks! Cool it, Joe! He's the nation's PE teacher and king of pandemic workouts, but I hear Joe Wicks wasn't exactly in a jolly mood backstage at Glastonbury. After leading his annual fitness session at the Park Stage on Friday morning, Joe popped to the nearby bar and asked for ice – only to be told they had none. 'He scoffed and stalked off,' said one flabbergasted onlooker. 'Rude and arrogant. He was awful. I hope you don't cross paths with him!' Bit of an icy reception, Joe…

Daisy Edgar-Jones and her boyfriend Ben Seed put on a very loved-up display at Glastonbury Festival
Daisy Edgar-Jones and her boyfriend Ben Seed put on a very loved-up display at Glastonbury Festival on Saturday. The actress, 27, and self-taught photographer - who were first linked in September 2023 - walked hand-in-hand at the popular music event which takes place at Worthy Farm every year. Daisy looked every-inch festival chic in a cream midi dress, which she paired with a some black ankle wellies. The TV star enjoyed a wholesome moment with Ben as she carried an ice cream in one hand. Meanwhile, Ben opted for an all-black outfit which consisted of a black top and shorts, and he shielded his eyes with dark sunglasses, much like Daisy. The couple are relatively private and generally keep their romance under wraps, rarely speaking about one another in interviews. However, Ben is no stranger to a high-profile relationship, having previously dated The Queen's Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy. He split up with Anya ahead of her beating Daisy to the best actress at the Golden Globes in 2021. Meanwhile, Daisy split from her ex-boyfriend Tom Varey in late 2020 after two years of dating. Daisy is said to be on 'cloud nine' with Ben, who also goes by the artist name Pip. A source previously told The Sun: 'Daisy and Pip got together earlier this year and have become inseparable. 'They have both had some free time this summer and love hanging out in Broadway Market in East London, just going to bars and spending time together. 'There's a real spark there and they are excited about finding each other. They've already met one another's friends and she is on cloud nine.' While Daisy is now enjoying a romance with Ben, Anya has moved on and is loved-up with her husband Malcolm McRae. They secretly tied the knot in New Orleans nearly three years ago before going on to have a second wedding in Venice in October 2023. Elsewhere, Daisy revealed what it is really like working with Hollywood's 'internet boyfriends', referring to her co-stars including Paul Mescal and Glen Powell. Speaking to Elle, Daisy explained: 'I have worked with basically all of the internet's boyfriends, and I'm lucky that every actor I've worked with has been incredibly supportive of me being the lead. Glen, Sebastian, Paul, all of them. 'I think that's why they're so successful and so loved and so good: that they are so generous, and they really serve the story and are not serving themselves. 'Glen was always like, "What's Kate's journey in this? Let's find it." And same with Sebastian; he was so completely invested in Noa's journey. 'Paul's like playing tennis with your best friend. I'm nervous for the point that it comes to working with someone who might not be so chill with it! Because there's so much ego that can exist in this industry.'

BBC fans stunned by 'outrageous moment' during JADE's Glastonbury set
Jade Thirlwall preformed for the first time at Glastonbury Festival this weekend. BBC viewers were left stunned by a jaw-dropping moment during JADE's Glastonbury debut when the singer dropped a swear word live on TV. The 32-year-old artist took to the stage at the festical for the first time today, where she reflected on her time in Little Mix, crediting the girl group with changing her life. But JADE also shared her excitement for pursuing her solo career. Performing on the Woodsies stage, Jade treated fans to songs from her upcoming album That's Showbiz Baby! alongside iconic Little Mix songs including Shout Out to my Ex, Woman Like Me and Touch, the Mirror reports. But it was her performance of Gossip - featuring Australian electro pop band Condifence Man - that sparked controversy, as she used the word "c--t" during the song. Fans were shocked that the word wasn't beeped out from the BBC live stream of the festival this afternoon, and many were quick to take to social media to share their thoughts. One user took to twitter, writing: "Jade dropping the word **** at 15:52 on a sunny summer afternoon at Glasto? Like I said, ICON!!" As another said: "Jade said **** live on the BBC and it's not even 4pm. Icons only," while a third penned: "This year's #Glastonbury catchphrase is definitely 'Tina thinks you're a ****.'" With a forth expressing their shock, as they stated: "Jade dropping the word **** was not on bingo card." However on BBC iPlayer, the livestream came with a disclaimer, which said: "Contains very strong language and flashing images." JADE became extremely emotional as fans sang along with her and at one point she paid tribute to her Little Mix band mates, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Perrie Edwards - Jesy Nelson was also originally part of the girl group, before she left in 2020. While on stage at Glastonbury, singer and songwriter JADE said: "Firstly, shout out to Little Mix. I can't begin to explain how grateful I am to those girls for literally changing my life and who would have thought then that we would have a Little Mix girlie up here on the Glastonbury stage. But I can't lie, it feels good doing my own songs that I've written from my heart." She continued: "That was the old me, now it's time for something new." She then told the crowd she was bringing out some special guests, before welcoming Confidence Man to the stage. JADE also used her Glastonbury performance to make a bold political statement during a powerful rendition of her track FUFN, short for F*** You For Now. The singer expressed her distain for Reform UK. The song includes a section where she calls out various issues she takes a stand against, giving them the middle finger. During her set, she chanted: "Reform! Transphobia! Selling arms! Genocide!", with the crowd echoing back a resounding "F*** you." At the start of the week, Jade promised fans her set would be "a big a-- SHOW" and on Saturday morning she posted, "It's a big one @glastonbury. See you on the Woodsies stage at 3.15pm. Make sure you get down early!! f you're not at the festival, you can watch my set live on @BBCiPlayer." Her performance was met with widespread praise, as festival-goers cheered her on throughout her set, while fans watching live on the BBC took to social media to share their reactions. 'Jade getting emotional at the Glastonbury crowd singing along with her is making me cry, so proud of her,' one fan tweeted. Another wrote: "This little mix medley Jade is doing at Glastonbury is making me emotional." A third added: "It's criminal that Little Mix never performed at Glastonbury but having Jade perform a Little Mix medley is the next best thing." Another post read: "JADE IS KILLING THIS.' And one more admirer shared: 'JADE really is the whole package isn't she. Absolute superstar."
