Taiping housewife loses over RM140,000 to ‘task scam'
Taiping police chief ACP Mohamad Nasir Ismail said the 46-year-old victim lodged a police report on July 9 after realising she had been duped by the syndicate.
'Initial investigations revealed that the victim was contacted via the Telegram app by several individuals who offered her online jobs.
'She was tasked with following several accounts on e-commerce platforms Shopee and Lazada to boost their profile visibility, and was promised payments of RM5 to RM8 per task, depending on the views and ratings,' he said in a statement.
Mohamad Nasir said that although the victim received payment notifications after completing each task, the funds could not be accessed or withdrawn.
'The victim was later told she had allegedly committed an error on a task and was required to make payments to recover her Shopee and Lazada accounts,' he said.
He said the victim subsequently made 22 transactions to 12 different accounts as instructed by the suspect, but her accounts were never returned.
'After the last transaction, the victim was again asked to make another deposit, but nothing materialised and the truth finally dawned on the victim that she had been scammed,' he said.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. – Bernama

The plant's Russia-installed management said in its statement that the station 'continues to operate normally, with all necessary safety precautions in place.'

[UPDATED] Foreigner nabbed for slashing ex-girlfriend in private college
SUBANG JAYA: Police have arrested a foreigner for slashing his former girlfriend at a private college here today. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said the 20-year-old victim, also a foreigner, was in critical but stable condition with a slash wound to her neck. He said the ex-boyfriend was detained shortly after the incident. "At 6.30pm, Subang Jaya police received a report that a foreign man had injured his former girlfriend, also a foreigner, with a knife at a private university here. "Investigations revealed that the victim, aged 20, had slash wounds to the left side of her neck. The victimwas sent to University Malaya Medical Centre and placed in the Red Zone. "The victim is said to be in stable condition," he said. Wan Azlan said the suspect in the case, a 21-year-old who is the victim's former boyfriend, was detained not long after the incident. "The motive behind the attack is still under investigation," he said. He added that the case has been classified under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means, which carries a sentence of imprisonment of up to 10 years, fine or caning, or any two of the three punishments. Bursa Malaysia Reprimands Zetrix AI, Fines Seven Directors RM150,000 Each
BUSINESS KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd has publicly reprimanded Zetrix AI Bhd, formerly known as MYEG Services Bhd, and fined seven directors for breaching the Bursa Malaysia Securities Main Market listing requirements (LR). The stock exchange operator imposed a fine of RM150,000 on each director, including the company's group managing director, Wong Thean Soon; executive chairman Datuk Dr Norraesah Mohamad; and non-independent non-executive director, Datuk Mohd Jimmy Wong Abdullah. Also reprimanded and fined were independent non-executive directors Wong Kok Chau, Datuk Seri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff, Datuk Mohd Jeffrey Joakim and Mohaini Mohd Yusof. According to Bursa Malaysia Securities, the findings of breach and the imposition of penalties on the company and the directors were made pursuant to paragraph 16.19 of the Main Market LR upon completion of due process and after taking into consideration all facts and circumstances of the matter. These included the materiality of the breaches, the impact of the breaches on the company and shareholders/investors, and the roles, responsibilities, knowledge, involvement and conduct/action/inaction of the directors. "Bursa Malaysia Securities has also reminded the company and its board of directors of their responsibility to maintain the appropriate standards of corporate responsibility and accountability to its shareholders and the investing public," it said in a statement.
