Forest Hills School District, Admiral Peary AVTS receiving state grants, officials say

EBENSBURG - Two area school district will receive $499,120 in state grant money to help them with employment and training opportunities for students planning to enter the workforce after high school, state Rep. Frank Burns, D-East Taylor Township and state Sen. Wayne Langerholc Jr., R-Richland Township announced on Saturday.
These Schools-to-Work grants, awarded to Forest Hills School District and Admiral Peary Area Vocational Technical School from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, will help schools expand pre-apprenticeships, classroom training and job shadowing initiatives.
"College isn't for everyone, and this funding will help those students who choose differently so they can avoid barriers to employment and work toward their future career path,' Burns said. 'It's important to make sure students are prepared for the high-demand jobs by getting the hands-on training they need to enter the workforce in these careers, which also gives employers access to a qualified workforce.'
Langerholc said he was pleased to see this funding secured for the expansion of workforce development programs at Forest Hills School District and Admiral Peary AVTS.
'These programs will help address the workforce shortage facing our area by preparing students to enter apprenticeships programs in critical fields that support our regional economy," he said.
Forest Hills School District will use its $250,000 for pre-apprenticeship training in Computer-Aided Design and Drafting and Industrial Manufacturing.
The Future-Ready Ranger initiative creates a structured pathway with STEM/CADD education in seventh and eighth grades and specialized training by ninth grade.
Admiral Peary ATVS will use its $239,120 grant to enhance its welding pre-apprenticeship program with new training materials, safety gear, welding machines and work with partnered apprenticeship programs to improve enrollment and transition statistics.
Both legislators said they supported increasing funding for vo-tech, career and technical education and apprenticeships by nearly $65 million in the past two state budgets.

A mysterious crypto account bought $54,000 worth of bitcoin in 2011 and sold it all for $9.6 billion this week, which means they can now afford one Big Mac a day for 4,971,897 years

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. I never bought into the bitcoin boom, at least back in the day. In 2011, many would have told you your trousers were on backwards if you dropped over 50 grand on the then-ailing cryptocurrency, and I listened to said trouser-judgers. Crypto was a flop, bitcoin was dead in the water, and many of us (including this intrepid writer) were openly scoffing at the idea it would ever be worth serious cash. Well, more fool me, because one mysterious trader appears to have made off with a staggering amount of profit. As spotted by X user @kkashit_yt, one "whale" (as I believe is the common parlance) bought 80,000 bitcoin in 2011 and sold it all this week for $9.6 billion (via Tom's Hardware). Must be nice. 2011 wasn't the best year for bitcoin, as it started out with a valuation of around 29 cents a coin, rose to the dizzying heights of $19.02, and closed out the year at $4.21. You'd have to be truly committed to the idea to spend the equivalent of $77,435 in today's money on an investment that volatile, but our mysterious trader appears to have taken the bet and won. A $9.6 billion payout equates to roughly a 17,777,677% ROI overall, which simply dwarfs every other investment opportunity you could think of over the same time period. The largest publicly documented stock market ROI is believed to be a 25-year investment in Monster Beverage Corp., which between July 1, 2000 and June 30 of this year is said to have delivered a 145,503.31% return with an annualised growth rate of 33.82%. The second? Nvidia, somewhat predictably. Given its massive valuation rise in recent years, a 25-year investment in Nvidia stock would have netted you a 59,556.46% price return over the same period. Still, think of what $9.6 billion could buy you. If you were that lucky trader and you happen to be reading, allow me to present you with a selection of things you could do with your newfound riches: Develop between five and nine GTA 6 iterations Fund the production of Spiderman 2, 32 times over Buy one Big Mac a day for 4,971,897 years Commission nineteen versions of Jeff Bezo's superyacht (he'll be so pleased) Or you could run OpenAI for a year So, it's not like your options are limited. Bitcoin has experienced a remarkable boost in value in 2025, rising 27.23% since July 2024 to its current price of $119,096 at the time of writing. No wait, $119,345. Sorry, that should have been $119,079. Wait, it's more like… you get the idea. It's still a pretty volatile investment even at this mature stage of the market, although the Trump Media and Technology Group recently declared it owns $2 billion of the stuff. What it plans to do with it is anyone's guess. Money making money? I'm lucky if mine makes toast. Crypto billionaire Justin Sun will fly on Blue Origin's next space tourism launch

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Four years after he paid $28 million for a spacecraft seat, Justin Sun will finally fly to the final frontier. In June 2021, Sun — the billionaire founder of the blockchain platform Tron — won an auction for a seat aboard Blue Origin's first-ever crewed spaceflight. That mission launched on July 20 of that year, carrying Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos and three other people to and from suborbital space on the company's reusable New Shepard vehicle. Sun was not on board, however; he had to back out due to scheduling conflicts, the company said at the time. Sun had not identified himself as the winning bidder when that flight lifted off. The big reveal came in December 2021, when the crypto billionaire went public and said he now planned to fly in 2022 with five other "space warriors." That didn't happen, either. But Sun's long-deferred spaceflight is now just around the corner: He is officially on the manifest for NS-34, New Shepard's next human spaceflight, Blue Origin announced on Monday (July 21). The company has not yet disclosed a target launch date for the flight but is expected to do so soon. Here's a brief profile of the 34-year-old Sun and his five NS-34 crewmates, using information provided by Blue Origin. Arvinder (Arvi) Singh Bahal, a real estate investor and adventurer who was born in India but is a naturalized U.S. citizen. He has visited every country in the world, as well as both the north and south poles. Gökhan Erdem, a Turkish businessman, photographer and space enthusiast who "dreams of one day traveling to the International Space Station and possibly even beyond," Blue Origin wrote. Deborah Martorell, a journalist and meteorologist from Puerto Rico who has taken a microgravity-inducing airplane flight and reported on a number of space missions, including NASA's Artemis 1 moon flight. She's also a Solar System Ambassador for NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Lionel Pitchford, an Englishman who has long lived in Spain and traveled the world. After losing his sister and her family in a 1992 plane crash in Nepal, he founded a nonprofit in the nation devoted to helping disadvantaged children. Pitchford has also run an orphanage in Kathmandu for the last 30 years. James (J.D.) Russell, an entrepreneur who founded the venture capital firm Alpha Funds. He also established the Victoria Russell Foundation, a nonprofit that honors the memory of his deceased daughter by "supporting children's education and assisting the families of first responders," Blue Origin wrote. Unlike the other NS-34 passengers, Russell is not a spaceflight rookie; he flew on the NS-28 mission in November 2024. Justin Sun, who is worth about $8.5 billion, according to Forbes. In addition to his Tron work, Sun is the ambassador and former Permanent Representative of Grenada to the World Trade Organization and serves as an advisor to the HTX crypto exchange. "A protege of Alibaba's Jack Ma, Sun was featured on the cover of Forbes Magazine in April 2025, where he was recognized as one of the most dynamic and outspoken figures in crypto and earning the moniker 'Crypto's Billionaire Barker' for his bold approach to innovation, advocacy and industry leadership," Blue Origin wrote. Sun's winning $28 million bid for the New Shepard seat in 2021 was donated to Club for the Future, Blue Origin's education nonprofit. The most recent, NS-33, lifted off on June 29. New Shepard missions fly from Blue Origin's launch site in West Texas, near the town of Van Horn. Each one lasts 10 to 12 minutes from launch to the parachute-aided touchdown of the New Shepard crew capsule. (New Shepard's rocket also comes back down to Earth for a safe landing and eventual reuse.) New Shepard is an autonomous vehicle, so the passengers can sit back and simply enjoy the flight. That experience includes a few minutes of weightlessness and great views of Earth against the blackness of space, from an altitude of more than 62 miles (100 kilometers). Solve the daily Crossword
