Olivia Rodrigo Gives Glastonbury a Dazzling Finale: 5 Best Moments

Yahoo30-06-2025
Providing the closing headlining slot on Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage might sound like a tough task, but it suited Olivia Rodrigo down to the ground. Weary punters who've been here since Wednesday (June 25) took a back seat as a fresh wave of attendees entered the festival grounds on Sunday, with free tickets distributed to local residents by way of thanks for the disruption to the area.

With them came a contingent of clear-eyed youngsters, but Rodrigo's appeal spans generations. Her music taps into universal emotions: self-worth ('Pretty Isn't Pretty'), revenge ('Get Him Back!'), and vulnerability ('Drivers License') that resonate regardless of age, gender or circumstance.
This was Rodrigo's second appearance at Worthy Farm, having made a blistering arrival at the festival back in 2022 which included a guest appearance from Lily Allen. Her huge crowd earmarked her as future headliner material, and her trajectory hasn't slowed with the success of her second album Guts and a brilliant global tour.
Back in 2022, Billie Eilish headlined the same stage with just two albums under her belt. While the crowd were eventually won over, it takes serious performing chops to hold a stage this big. Rodrigo managed it with gusto during a hits-laden set which included references to her love of the U.K., why Glastonbury is her favorite festival (she was spotted dancing in the crowd at Pulp on Saturday afternoon), and brought out The Cure's frontman Robert Smith for a brilliant duet on two of the goth rocker's classics.
Check out the finest moments from Rodrigo's Glastonbury 2025 headline slot.
Rodrigo's 2021 single 'Drivers License' was the smash that started it all. The song went to No. 1 in the U.K. and topped the Hot 100 quickly upon release. When she introduced it during her set, she reflected on the journey it had kickstarted: 'I can't believe this is my life,' she said with a beaming smile. Therein followed one of the biggest singalongs of the night and the whole festival.
Headliners with little original material can prove tricky. Arctic Monkeys struggled in 2007 (sound issues didn't help) and Billie Eilish also took time to warm up the crowd in 2022. It appeared less of a problem for Rodrigo, who opened with 'So Obsessed,' a song from the deluxe edition of Guts (2023) before dropping 'So American' midway through; both earned strong responses, ensuring even the deep cuts resonated.
Robert Smith is no stranger to Glastonbury with his band The Cure headlining several times, most recently in 2019. Rodrigo introduced him as 'a personal hero' and 'perhaps the best songwriter to come out of England' before the unlikely the pair duetted on the Cure's 'Friday I'm In Love' and 'Just Like Heaven.' A few unbothered faces from younger audience members on the barrier did little to dampen this moment of additional star-power, and the packed crowd swooned and swayed to some classics.
Rodrigo is undoubtedly an Anglophile, and spends much of her time in the U.K., owing to her British boyfriend Louis Partridge. On Saturday, she was spotted on Partridge's shoulders during Pulp's set on the Pyramid, and she told the crowd she loves the fact that in England it's 'normal to have a pint at noon,' a habit many at the festival clearly indulged in all weekend. 'So American,' a tongue-in-cheek look at her American habits in comparison to her adopted homeland, was a highlight of her set.
On the previous two evenings, the Pyramid stage was short on theatrics. The 1975 played a conservative set which ran through their back catalogue, and Neil Young's no-frills set featured noisy versions of some rock classics but, little showmanship. Rodrigo's encore gave the festival a dazzling send off with flames and a firework display as 'Brutal,' 'Good 4 U' and 'Get Him Back!' closed out a brilliant finale.

Morgan Wallen Notches Fourth Country Airplay No. 1 From ‘I'm the Problem' With ‘Just in Case'

Morgan Wallen logs his 18th No. 1 — and the fourth from his album I'm the Problem — on Billboard's Country Airplay chart as 'Just in Case' ascends two spots to the top of the survey dated July 12. The single surged 22% to 29.4 million audience impressions June 27-July 3, according to Luminate. The ballad becomes the fourth Country Airplay chart-topper among the 37 songs on Wallen's blockbuster I'm the Problem, which has led Top Country Albums and the Billboard 200 in its first six weeks of release. The title track dominated for eight weeks beginning in April, 'Love Somebody' ruled for three weeks in February, and 'Lies Lies Lies' led for a week last November. Notably, as we pass the halfway point this year, Wallen's latest Country Airplay No. 1 marks his third of 2025 — no other act has more than one. In 2024, he became the first artist to roll up five leaders in a single year since the list launched in 1990: 'Lies Lies Lies'; 'Cowgirls,' featuring Ernest; Post Malone's 'I Had Some Help,' featuring Wallen; 'Man Made a Bar,' featuring Eric Church, and Thomas Rhett's 'Mamaw's House,' featuring Wallen. Rhett's Milestone 25th Top 10 Speaking of Thomas Rhett, he claims his 25th Country Airplay top 10 with his co-authored 'After All the Bars Are Closed.' The single pushes 12-9 (19 million, up 15%). It follows 'Beautiful as You,' which hit No. 2 in November. His first top 10, 'It Goes Like This,' became his first of 20 No. 1s in October 2013. Bryan's Top 10 'Country Song' Luke Bryan scores his 37th Country Airplay top 10 as 'Country Song Came On' lifts 11-10 (18.1 million, up 8%). 'Love You, Miss You, Mean It' awarded the American Idol judge his prior top 10 (No. 2 last October). His rookie entry 'All My Friends Say' hit No. 5 in 2007, while 'Rain Is a Good Thing' became his first of 26 No. 1s in 2010. Bryan ties Reba McEntire for the 10th-most Country Airplay 10s (surpassing Garth Brooks' 36). Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw and George Strait lead the pack with 61 each. Lewis Capaldi Performs ‘Survive,' Talks Stage Return and Upcoming EP on ‘Good Morning America'

Lewis Capaldi dropped in to Good Morning America on Monday morning (July 7) for his first TV performance in more than two years as part of the show's Summer Concert Series. In addition to performing a pair of songs with a full band during the visit — including an emotional run through his new single, 'Survive,' as well as his breakthrough 2019 smash 'Someone You Loved,' the most-streamed song of all time in the U.K. — Capaldi broke some news during the chat. 'I don't know about an album, but hopefully it will be… I'm doing an EP at some point this year,' he said, joking that he wasn't sure if he was allowed to share the news, but was going to do it anyway. 'And then an album will follow maybe next year.' Capaldi did not provide the name of the EP or a targeted release date, but he also teased that there will be a another new song later this summer and then, 'another song after that and another song after that until the day I die.' During the previous gig, he'd struggled with a strained vocal cord and his Tourette's syndrome diagnosis, which manifested in a series of tics during his performance. That same day Capaldi announced that he was taking a break from touring to focus on his health. 'The fact that this probably won't come as a surprise doesn't make it any easier to write, but I'm very sorry to let you know I'm going to be taking a break from touring for the foreseeable future,' he wrote to fans in June 2023. 'I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I'd hoped 3 weeks away would sort me out. But the truth is I'm still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette's and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order so that I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come.' Prior to his 2023 Glastonbury set, Capaldi had canceled a series of planned, sold out shows in Glasgow, Dublin, Norway and London. The singer discussed the intensive therapy he's been undergoing over the past two years on GMA, saying that his time out of the spotlight has involved, 'lots and lots of therapy. It's been nice, talking a lot about myself. Crying quite a lot over the last two years… I've just been locking in and putting it all together and here we are.' Watch Capaldi on GMA below. Royel Otis Lands First Billboard No. 1 With ‘Moody'

Royel Otis tops a Billboard chart for the first time as 'Moody' lifts a spot to No. 1 on the Adult Alternative Airplay tally dated July 12. 'Moody' exceeds the No. 2 peak of the duo's cover of Sophie Ellis-Bextor's 'Murder on the Dancefloor,' which hit No. 2 on Alternative Airplay in July 2024. Royel Otis is the first act to score an initial No. 1 on Adult Alternative Airplay in 2025. James Bay last achieved the feat with 'Up All Night,' with The Lumineers and Noah Kahan, for a week last October. Royel Otis — duo Royel Maddell and Otis Pavlovic, which formed Sydney, Australia, in 2019 — boasts two career top 10s on Alternative Airplay, with 'Murder on the Dancefloor' joined by the No. 10-peaking 'Sofa King,' last November. 'Moody' concurrently reaches a new No. 15 high on Alternative Airplay. The track also ascends 16-14 on the all-rock-format, audience-based Rock & Alternative Airplay chart with 2.4 million audience impressions, up 11%, in the week ending July 3, according to Luminate. The act's best there so far is 'Murder on the Dancefloor,' which rose to No. 5. 'Moody' is the lead single from Hickey, Royel Otis' second studio album, due Aug. 22. A second song from the project, 'Car,' was released in June.
