Sena (UBT) MLC Anil Parab demands minister Yogesh Kadam's resignation over ‘Kandivali dance bar run with mother's licence'

Indian Express6 days ago
Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC Anil Parab on Tuesday demanded the resignation of Maharashtra Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam, alleging that a dance bar in Kandivali was being operated under a licence held by his mother and that firms linked to the minister's family were mining sand illegally in Ratnagiri.
Parab said he would submit documents, pen drives, and evidence to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday and warned he would approach the Bombay High Court if Kadam was not removed from his post.
'Devendra Fadnavis should seek Kadam's resignation. (Deputy Chief Minister) Eknath Shinde won't act because of political constraints. If the state doesn't act, I will go to court,' Parab said.
Kadam belongs to the Shinde-led Shiv Sena.
Parab's allegations stem from a May 30 raid at Savali Bar and Restaurant in Kandivali (West), following which the Mumbai police booked 22 bar dancers, 22 customers, and four staff members for violations under bar regulations.
Citing documents received under the Right to Information Act, Parab said the bar's licence was in the name of Jyoti Kadam, the minister's mother.
'If obscene activities take place in a bar licensed to the minister's family, responsibility lies with the licence holder. Saying it is run by someone else is no defence under the law,' the MLC said at a press conference.
Parab alleged that bar rules were violated, with reports of obscene dance and money being thrown—all of which he claimed was documented in an FIR. Former minister Ramdas Kadam, father of Yogesh Kadam, admitted that the licence is in his wife's name but said the bar has been run by a man named Shetty for 30 years.
'There is an orchestra licence and waitress licence. Nothing illegal is happening,' he said, dismissing Parab's claims as politically motivated.
Parab also accused Kadam of diverting silt from the Jagbudi river in Ratnagiri, stating that sand meant for farmers was instead sent to a private dental college allegedly linked to Kadam's sister. He named Akil Mukadam, who he claimed works at Kadam's residence, as the one overseeing the illegal sand removal.
Kadam, in response, denied all charges, saying he had no involvement in the operation of the bar or in sand removal, and that the allegations were 'baseless and defamatory'. He said the silt removed was not of construction quality.
'If I had any vested interest, no raid would have happened. The police acted under my instructions,' Kadam said on Monday.
Kadam has also announced that he will move a breach of privilege motion against Parab in the Legislative Council and write to the chairperson over Parab's remarks.

Arrest of Khadse's son-in-law in drugs case suspicious: Sanjay Raut

A day after the arrest of Eknath Khadse's son-in-law in a drugs case, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Monday claimed the former Maharashtra minister was being targeted for linking BJP leader Girish Mahajan with an alleged honey trap scandal. Sanjay Raut dubbed the arrest of Khadse's son-in-law Pranjal Khewalkar as suspicious and also slammed BJP for "targeting" the family.(ANI File) Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Raut dubbed the arrest of Khadse's son-in-law Pranjal Khewalkar as suspicious and also slammed the ruling BJP, alleging it was "targeting" family members of political rivals and maligning them. The former Maharashtra minister's home was attacked to shut his mouth, he said in an apparent reference to Khadse. Pranjal Khewalkar, the husband of Eknath Khadse's daughter Rohini Khadse, was arrested along with six others after the police raided a "drug party" at an apartment in Pune in the early hours of Sunday and claimed to have seized narcotics, hookah set ups and liquor from there. Rohini Khadse is the state head of the NCP (SP) women's wing. "The entire matter is suspicious," Raut said. "Khadse has been talking about honey traps for the last three days. He is talking about the involvement of (state cabinet minister) Girish Mahajan in this but there is no probe related to it. Now that Khadse is talking, his son-in-law has been arrested," the Rajya Sabha member said. Such incidents were occurring everywhere in Maharashtra, Raut said. He also accused the police of having become a servant and targeting those who speak against the government. Mahajan recently accused Khadse of trying to malign his image by raising baseless allegations in connection with an alleged honeytrap scandal. The fight between Khadse, a BJP veteran who quit the party to join the then undivided NCP in 2020, and Mahajan is not new. Both belong to the Jalgaon district. "We followed a principle that family members (of political rivals) were never dragged. Unfortunately, people from the BJP are now targeting family members, maligning them," Raut charged. He claimed that after the arrest of Khadse's son-in-law, Mahajan was just short of breaking into a dance. NCP leader and former minister Nawab Malik's son-in-law was arrested in a similar NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act case and so was actor Shahrukh Khan's son Aryan Khan, Raut pointed out.

K'taka BJP slams Siddarmaiah govt over shortage of fertilizers in state

The Karnataka BJP has launched attack on the Congress led government in Karnataka over shortage of supply of urea fertilizer and creating crisis for farmers in the critical cultivation phase. Speaking to the media at BJP's state office, Jagannath Bhavan in Bengaluru, N. Ravikumar, Chief Whip of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, stated: "In the past, to prevent fertilizer shortage for farmers and to avoid financial difficulties for the state government in purchasing fertilizers, a buffer stock fund of Rs 1,000 crore was set aside. However, under the current Congress government, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has allocated only Rs 400 crore for maintaining buffer stock for fertilizers. How will farmers get adequate fertilizer with such a reduced amount." Ravikumar alleged that the Congress government has failed to provide timely supply of urea fertilizer to the farmers, prompting the BJP to call for statewide protests. He pointed out that in North and South Karnataka, crops such as ragi, jowar, maize, and green gram require fertilizers. However, the state government is failing to ensure timely supply of urea. Green manure availability is low in north Karnataka, and farmers there rely heavily on urea. They are now facing severe hardship due to the shortage, he said. Due to heavy rainfall across all districts, there is a surge in crop sowing activity. Farmers are saying that if fertilizers are applied now, yields will improve; otherwise, the crops may fail. He accused the government of ignoring farmers' grievances. Thousands of farmers are lining up at fertiliser distribution centres in each taluk and district, he stated, urging the government to immediately supply urea. Ravikumar further said the Congress government failed to promote nano urea as an alternative to conventional urea. It should have created awareness among farmers to use nano urea in the absence of regular urea but it did not. The government is also not providing subsidies for the machines required to spray nano urea. Distribution of bio-fertilisers, which absorb nitrogen from the air and transfer it to the soil, has also been reduced. No aid has been given to farmers to produce green manure either. The Siddaramaiah-led government has completely neglected farmers, he charged. Cattle numbers are decreasing, and instead of supporting livestock farmers, the government appears to be helping cattle thieves. No support has been provided for dairy farming. Even the incentive for milk producers has been stopped, causing farmers to suffer even more, Ravikumar charged. Farmers are not being given quality fertilizers. Private companies are supplying substandard seeds, leading to poor crop outcomes. Despite good rainfall this season, if quality seeds and fertilizers are not provided, the sowing season will be lost, resulting in crop failure. The government has completely ignored the farmers, Ravikumar asserted. During the BJP governments led by B.S. Yediyurappa and Basavaraj Bommai, farmers were provided a total of Rs 10,000 under the Kisan Samman scheme — Rs 6,000 from the Centre and Rs 4,000 from the state. The current Congress government has stopped the Rs 4,000 state aid, doing injustice to farmers, he alleged. Regarding drought relief, he pointed out that the Centre had released Rs 3,454 crore, but not a single paisa has been spent for the benefit of farmers. The funds have been diverted for other purposes, he alleged, accusing the Congress government of betraying the farmers. BJP Kisan Morcha state vice-president Rudresh, Bengaluru North district Kisan Morcha president G.J. Murthy, and Bengaluru Central district president Rudrappa were present at the press meet.

Op Sindoor Debate: Amit Shah To Speak In Lok Sabha Tomorrow, PM Modi Likely To Speak

Last Updated: PM Modi will likely address Parliament on Operation Sindoor. Operation Sindoor Debate In Parliament: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to participate in the ongoing debate over Operation Sindoor– India's retaliatory strikes on Pakistan following the ghastly Pahalgam terror attack– and address the Parliament on Tuesday evening. The Prime Minister is likely to address either house of the Parliament at around 7 pm on Tuesday. Additionally, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also expected to lead the discussion in Lok Sabha tomorrow, while Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will open the debate in Rajya Sabha. Parliament began the three-day debate on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor from Monday, following a week of disruption. Both the ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance and the Opposition have fielded senior leaders for the discussions in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The lower house witnessed fiery exchange of words between the treasury and opposition benches over the terror attack and the India's strikes on Pakistan. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh began the debate in Lok Sabha, explaining how, through Operation Sindoor, the Indian armed forces hit nine terror targets in Pakistan and PoK and killed over 100 terrorists. He also said that the Operation was stopped because India's objective was achieved and not under pressure. 'We stopped action because our objectives were met. It is baseless and wrong that the Operation Sindoor was stopped under any pressure," Singh said as his statement was followed by uproar from the Opposition. The opposition parties came down heavily on central government over the announcement of a ceasefire after a three-day conflict between India and Pakistan by US President Donald Trump. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi led the opposition's discussion, questioning the government over alleged security lapses. The Deputy Leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha asked Rajnath Singh why he did not mention in his speech how terrorists from Pakistan reached Pahalgam and killed 26 people. 'It is our duty to ask these questions in the interest of the nation," he added. Gogoi also said why security agencies are not able to nab the terrorists behind the Pahalgam attack. Meanwhile, BJP allies– Janata Dal (U) and Telugu Desam Party (TDP)– also came to applaud the government for the decision taken during Operation Sindoor, in which nine terror camps were targeted in Pakistan and PoK. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
