Bad weather forces cancellation of CM Nitish Kumar's visit to Katihar
The Chief Minister was expected to unveil a statue of renowned litterateur Anuppal Mandal and address a public gathering, apart from laying the foundation stone of projects of more than Rs 500 crore, but persistent heavy rain in Patna grounded his flight.
This is the second postponement of the same programme, the first being on July 26 this year, also due to weather disruptions.
Speaking on the cancellation, Katihar District Magistrate Manesh Kumar Meena said, 'Due to heavy rains in Patna and bad weather conditions, the Chief Minister's helicopter could not take off. The event at Sameli had to be cancelled despite all arrangements being in place.'
Barari MLA Vijay Singh echoed the disappointment due to cancellation of the chief minister's program.
'The Chief Minister was coming to unveil the statue of great litterateur Anuppal Mandal and to address the public. But once again, the weather has let us down. The ATC has not allowed his chopper to take off from Patna.'
The district and block administration had made comprehensive preparations for the CM's arrival, including arrangements for security, stage set-up, crowd control, and public address logistics.
Thousands of people, especially from nearby rural areas, had started gathering at the venue, only to return disappointed once the cancellation was announced.
According to administrative sources, efforts are already underway to reschedule the visit at the earliest suitable date.
The Chief Minister is keen to connect with the people of Katihar, especially to highlight development initiatives and promote education and literature in the region.
The legacy of Anuppal Mandal, whose statue was to be unveiled, holds cultural significance in the region.
Locals hope the postponed programme will be executed soon, bringing both recognition to the late litterateur and a much-anticipated public address by the Chief Minister.

EC doubles pay for BLOs involved in roll revision
. NEW DELHI: A day after asking its poll personnel in the field to ignore repeated threats and allegations by some opposition netas and continue working impartially, the Election Commission decided to reward the officers involved in electoral roll revision, reports Bharti Jain. For booth-level officers (BLOs), annual remuneration and incentive for roll revision stands doubled to Rs 12,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively. These rates were last revised in 2015. BLOs will also get Rs 6,000 as special incentive for special intensive revision (SIR). The BLO supervisor will receive an annual remuneration of Rs 18,000 as against Rs 12,000, in force since 2015. EROs and assistant EROs, who did not get any honorarium so far, will now receive an honorarium of Rs 30,000 and Rs 25,000 each. Stating that pure electoral rolls are bedrock of democracy, EC Saturday commended the electoral roll machinery comprising EROs, Asst EROs, BLO supervisors and BLOs for doing "a lot or hard work" and playing "a pivotal role in preparation of transparent rolls". New Delhi: Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and his son Chaitanya Baghel have approached the Supreme Court, seeking the legal authority and jurisdiction of central investigative agencies-the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED)-in probing alleged irregularities linked to the multi-crore liquor scam in the state. The petition, according to reports, filed amid escalating political tensions, seeks clarity on whether the agencies have overstepped their mandate under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and other statutes. The matter is scheduled for hearing on Monday before a bench comprising Justice Suryakant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi. The move comes days after Chaitanya Baghel was arrested by the ED in connection with a Rs 2,160 crore liquor scam that allegedly operated during Bhupesh Baghel's tenure as Chief Minister. The ED claims that a parallel liquor distribution network siphoned off massive sums through unaccounted sales and illegal commissions, implicating several political and bureaucratic figures. Bhupesh Baghel has publicly denounced the arrest and subsequent raids at his Bhilai residence, calling them politically motivated and designed to suppress dissent. ED officials conducted raids at the Baghel family residence in Bhilai, Durg district, early in the morning on July 18. Chaitanya was taken into custody under Section 19 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The ED cited non-cooperation during the search as grounds for immediate arrest. Bhupesh Baghel publicly condemned the timing, calling it a "birthday gift" from the Central government and alleging political vendetta. The first ED raid at Bhupesh Baghel's Bhilai residence occurred on March 10, 2025. Baghel claimed that this earlier raid was timed to prevent him from participating in the state budget session, alleging that it was politically motivated and aimed at silencing opposition voices. Khatu Shyamji temple panel to rebuild PM Shri govt school
Jhunjhunu: Khatu Shyamji temple committee has stepped in to rebuild the local PM Shri govt higher secondary school after the public works department (PWD) declared the school building as dilapidated and unsafe. Once the education department grants approval, the existing building will be demolished and the temple committee will start construction of a new building. The committee plans to build 32 classrooms over 25,000 square feet, including smart classes, a science lab, a library, a playground, security guard rooms, and other facilities. Following the school building mishap in Jhalawar district, Rajasthan govt has urged attention to school infrastructure. Responding promptly to this appeal, the temple committee offered to rebuild the school. Committee member Manvendra Singh Chauhan handed over a letter in this regard to schools principal Ranjana Jangid Saturday. The estimated cost of the construction is Rs 6 crore. According to the committee, construction will begin as soon as the necessary approvals from the education department are received.
