
Tension near Srivilliputtur due to stone-pelting incident
Two persons, including Special Sub-Inspector of Police Karuppasamy, were injured in a stone-pelting incident between two groups at Achamthavizhthan near here on Tuesday night.
The police said that the SSI suffered bleeding injury on his nose and the woman Shenbagavalli, 35, sustained head injuries.
They have been admitted to different private hospitals.
Police picketing has been posted in the area to prevent any further untoward incident.
The police said that a group of people belonging to a Scheduled Caste community had gone to offer worship at a local Kaliamman temple on Tuesday night.
People belonging to a caste Hindu community had objected to it.
A wordy quarrel erupted between the two groups and it suddenly turned worse with both sides pelting stones at a each other in which the duo were injured.
Vanniyampatti police have booked cases against 17 persons each on both sides.
They have been booked for rioting, wrongful restraint, attempt to murder and using foul language.
While the police have booked the caste Hindus under the provisions of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities Act), the people from other group have been booked under the provisions of Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women (Amendment) Act, 2025.

Shefali Jariwala's Death: Postmortem Report Likely To Come In One Or Two Days
Mumbai: The Mumbai police are looking into the sudden passing away of actress Shefali Jariwala at the young age of 42 on Friday night. According to the latest statement, the Amboli police station has so far recorded statements from ten people in the case. The police further stated that the postmortem report is expected to be available within the next one or two days, and the real cause of Shefali's death will be known only once the postmortem report has been received. As part of the investigation, the police have also inspected the CCTV cameras installed in Shefali's building, but nothing suspicious came out, and nothing has emerged in the investigation so far. Earlier today, Shefali's husband Parag Tyagi performed his late wife's Ashthi Visarjan at Mumbai's Juhu Beach, the videos of which are doing rounds on social media. Parag, along with Shefali's father and brother also performed her last rites as per Hindu tradition at Mumbai's Oshiwara Crematorium on Saturday. After the cremation, Parag requested everyone to pray for his pari. Addressing the media, he said "Please mazak drama mat banaiyega. Main ab sab se request karta hu please meri pari ke liye sab pray kariyega' (Please avoid any drama and don't indulge in frivoulous things. I request you all to kindly pray for my Pari)." The 'Bigg Boss 13' contestant left for heavenly abode on the night of June 27 after allegedly suffering a cardiac arrest. However, the exact cause of her death is yet to be determined. The reports suggest that the Mumbai police received a distress call at around 1 AM on Friday night. Parag also took Shefali to the Cooper Hospital, however, she was declared dead on arrival. According to a source, Shefali's health declined between 10:00 pm and 11:00 pm on Friday with her body trembling and eventually losing consciousness.

Hindu Activists Tied To Tree, Thrashed In Karnataka's Belagavi Over Cattle Transport Dispute

A video showing members of the Hindu group Sri Rama Sena (SRS) being tied to a tree and brutally thrashed by villagers in Ingali village of Hukkeri taluk, Belagavi district, Karnataka, has sparked widespread outrage after going viral on social media. According to local sources, the incident stemmed from a dispute over the transportation of cattle. On Friday, five SRS activists intercepted a vehicle transporting cows, suspecting the animals were being illegally taken for slaughter. The activists took the driver to the police station and alleged that the cows were headed to a slaughterhouse. However, the driver refuted the claim, insisting the cattle were being transported for dairy or taming purposes. He further alleged that the activists attempted to extort money from him by making false accusations. Following the intervention, the cows were shifted to a cow shelter (gaushala) in Ingali village. In Karnataka's Belagavi, villagers brutally beat up Hindutva men for stopping transportation of cows and extorting money from cattle traders.
