Chandigarh: Panjab University's official spokesperson attended a closed-door Haryana Congress event during Rahul Gandhi's visit to Chandigarh on June 4 — with his name not only on the official attendee list but also mentioned as AICC Secretary, raising serious concerns over political involvement by a serving university official.
Vineet Punia, director of public relations at the university, is named on page 2 of the list titled 'Meeting of Senior Leadership at Chanakya Hall, HPCC,' signed by Haryana Congress incharge B K Hariprasad. The Indian National Congress website also identifies him as AICC secretary (communication, publicity, media). Photographs accessed by this reporter confirmed his presence at the June 4 event.
University officials confirmed that an internal inquiry into Punia's political activities is already in progress.
According to top PU officials, he has reportedly denied holding any official party position even during the inquiry, but the documentation suggests otherwise.
Registrar Prof YP Verma said, "Each employee of the university is bound by the service rules and regulations of the university. If there is violation, university will act as per PU rules."
While PU service conduct is not specific on employee holding position in a political party, it states that "no employee shall take part in, subscribe in aid of, or assist in any way any political movement."

The same rules require employees to seek prior approval before contesting elections to any legislative or local body. Breach of these rules may invite disciplinary action.
Punia did not respond to queries.
BOX- HOLDING PARTY POSITION NOT RIGHT: VC
PU vice-chancellor Prof Renu Vig said holding a political position while serving in the university is wrong and should not be allowed to go unchecked. "We will look into the matter. While affiliations may exist, holding a position in a political party while serving in the university system is not appropriate and raises serious concerns," she said.

KCR's corruption exposed in Kaleshwaram, says Mahesh Goud

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud said that the Judicial Commission on the irregularities in Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project pointed all fingers towards former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao in the massive irregularities in the planning and execution of the project. 'I have seen media reports on the Kaleshwaram Commission clearly holding KCR and his team responsible for the enormous violations leading to poor quality of construction,' he said arguing that the report has revealed what the Congress had been saying all along. 'Thousands of crores were wasted in the name of irrigation development, but the reality is that the Kaleshwaram project was driven by personal gain,' he said during his Janahita padayatra in Armoor on Saturday. Mr. Goud accused KCR of completely ignoring expert advice and overstepping technical guidelines. 'Engineers were silenced, and the project was built as per the whims and fancies of KCR so that they could make money. The project failure isn't just inefficiency but criminal negligence,' he said. He reiterated that the Congress government will ensure accountability and justice, holding those responsible for such scams answerable to the people of Telangana. He also blamed KCR and former minister for Irrigation Harish Rao for Andhra Pradesh pushing the controversial Banakacherla project as the BRS had made backdoor agreements with Andhra Pradesh during their tenure. Earlier in the day, AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha, and Mahesh Kumar Goud participated in Shramadanam activities with students at Jogipet Degree College. Minister D. Seethakkha, MLA Madan Mohan Rao, Advisor to Government Shabbir Ali and AICC secretary Sampath Kumar also joined the padayatra. Mr. Goud further said that the credit for the historic decision of 42% reservations to Backward Classes goes to the Congress Party, which introduced it through the Kamareddy Declaration. 'It is Rahul Gandhi's leadership that made this possible,' he declared. He wondered why BRS MLC K Kavitha was making noise when she was silent during her father's regime.

Won't let AP take even a drop of Telangana's water share: Congress

1 2 Hyderabad: Telangana Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud on Friday said that the state govt will not allow the Andhra Pradesh to take even a drop of Telangana's deserving water share from the Godavari through the Banakacherla project. Addressing the media after his padayatra in the Andole assembly constituency, Mahesh Goud accused former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and former irrigation minister T Harish Rao of mortgaging the interests of Telangana to Andhra by allowing the neighbouring state to take up the Banakacherla project. "Is it not KCR and Harish whose signatures during the previous BRS govt allowed AP to take up the Banakacherla project? On the other hand, the Congress govt led by chief minister A Revanth Reddy and irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy took up the issue with the Centre, Union Jal Shakti Ministry, central water commission, and Godavari River Management Board, and successfully stopped the AP from going ahead further with works on the Banakacherla project," he said. "AICC in charge of Telangana Meenakshi Natarajan is participating in the padayatra as chief guest. The yatra will continue after our return from New Delhi to pursue with President Droupadi Murmu the BC reservation bills pending with her. CM Revanth and other ministers too will participate in the padayatra in future as chief guests," he said. During his padayatra, the TPCC chief listed all the welfare schemes being implemented by the Congress govt, including over 60,000 govt jobs given to the youth in just 18 months. "The Congress govt has stopped the supply of coarse rice through fair price shops and is giving fine rice free of cost to all the poor in the state," he said. Meenakshi takes dig at RSS AICC in-charge of Telangana Meenakshi Natarajan said that while the Congress works for the welfare of the people, RSS does it with an ulterior motive. She called upon the party cadres to work to know the problems of the people and bring them to the notice of the govt for solutions. She was speaking at a party workers' meeting in Andole during the padayatra.

Cong-led UPA tried to malign RSS & its affiliates: Fadnavis

Nagpur: CM Devendra Fadnavis on Friday alleged the 'Hindu terror' narrative was a politically motivated conspiracy crafted by the Congress-led UPA govt in 2008 to malign Hindutva organisations, particularly the RSS and its 'Vichar Parivar' affiliates and build a false equivalence to 'Islamic terrorism', a term coined globally at that time. He said the Malegaon blast case acquittals busted what he called as a "Congre ss-fabricated plot. " "The Congress and UPA govt coined the terms 'Hindu terrorism' and 'saffron terror' to deliberately target Hindutva organisations," Fadnavis said addressing the meida a day after a trial court acquitted all seven accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast. The CM was reacting to both the verdict and to former Maharashtra ATS officer Mehboob Mujawar's claim that he was pressured by superiors to arrest RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat as part of the investigation in an effort aimed at reinforcing the saffron terror narrative. "From the early 1990s to early 2000s, the world was grappling with Islamic terrorism, with links pointing at Pakistan. The United States, Europe, and India all faced deadly terror strikes. Instead of confronting reality, the Congress sought to please its vote bank (with fabricated narrative)," Fadnavis alleged. He said the attempt to brand Hindu groups as terror outfits was not backed by any concrete evidence. "Many sincere and honest police officers took a stand. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You To Read in 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo They categorically told the political leadership there was no proof against RSS or Vichar Parivar functionaries. These officers refused to be part of any unlawful activity, which ultimately prevented misuse of law enforcement agencies," he said. Fadnavis said the fabricated narrative was a "deep-rooted conspiracy" to ban Hindutva organisations. Targeting Congress neta Prithviraj Chavan, he said, "Today, he talks about saffron as the sacred colour of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. But he was in the PMO under PM Manmohan Singh when the same colour was being painted as a symbol of terror. Why didn't he oppose it then?" —Vaibhav Ganjapure You Can Also Check: Mumbai AQI | Weather in Mumbai | Bank Holidays in Mumbai | Public Holidays in Mumbai
