Blake Lively Gains Control Of Deposition After Judge Sides With Her In Legal Feud
The court's decision comes after Lively requested the protective order, citing concerns over privacy and control regarding the setting and attendees of the July 17 deposition.
Blake Lively's legal team emphasized the importance of safeguarding the process amid heightened media attention and a history of what they describe as Justin Baldoni's efforts to sensationalize the case.
Blake Lively Wins Protective Order To Set Terms For Deposition In Baldoni Case
According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, U.S. District Judge Lewis J. Liman approved the order on Monday, July 14, allowing the 37-year-old actress to control the conditions of her testimony. Per the ruling, Baldoni's legal team must conduct the deposition at a location chosen by Lively, with access to a computer, printing, and copying equipment.
Additionally, Baldoni's team must notify Lively of everyone attending the deposition by noon on July 15.
Baldoni's lawyers strongly opposed the request, accusing Lively of using her "celebrity status" to dictate the terms.
In a letter submitted on July 13, Baldoni's team argued, "Lively is a plaintiff who has hurled serious allegations of misconduct against the Wayfarer Parties. Like all defendants, the Wayfarer Parties are entitled to depose Lively... They are also entitled to choose the location of the deposition, which they did."
Lively's Harassment Lawsuit Against Justin Baldoni Heats Up As Trial Looms
The bitter legal battle began after Lively filed a lawsuit accusing Baldoni of sexual harassment and workplace retaliation during the production of "It Ends With Us."
Baldoni has vehemently denied the claims and previously filed counterclaims against Lively and her husband, , alleging defamation and extortion, claims that Judge Liman has since dismissed.
Bryan Freedman, Baldoni's high-profile attorney, has made repeated public comments about his strategy, including a now-viral interview on TMZ Live in which he said, "I'm gonna ask her questions under penalty of perjury... We have all of the videotapes, all the footage. We have the text messages and we have emails. We're gonna see how consistent her testimony is with the actual facts of what transpired."
Blake Lively Condemns Baldoni's Legal Team For Turning Harassment Case Into 'Public Spectacle'
Freedman also made headlines earlier this year when he sarcastically proposed hosting Lively's deposition at Madison Square Garden, selling tickets or live-streaming the event to raise money for victims of domestic abuse.
In response, Lively's team issued a statement on July 11 condemning the attempt to turn a serious legal matter into "a public spectacle."
"Justin Baldoni's lawyer has tried to make this matter a public spectacle at every turn, even proposing to sell tickets to a televised deposition at Madison Square Garden," her rep said. "This is a serious matter of sexual harassment and retaliation, and it deserves to be treated as such."
Justin Baldoni Scores Small Legal Win
This all comes after Justin Baldoni secured a minor legal victory in his ongoing legal battle.
U.S. District Judge Lewis J. Liman ruled that Baldoni and his legal team may review select private text messages exchanged between Lively and her close friend , marking a new development in the closely watched case.
The ruling allows Baldoni limited access to the private conversations to determine whether any discussions between Lively and Swift pertain directly to the actress's allegations of sexual harassment and workplace retaliation. The court emphasized that only messages relevant to the case can be examined, and Judge Liman cautioned that the review must remain narrowly focused.
While Lively's legal team fought to exclude Swift from the discovery process entirely, their motion was denied, opening the door for Baldoni's team to potentially glean insight into Lively's claims from her private exchanges with the pop star.
Judge Dismisses Justin Baldoni's $400M Defamation Suit
While Justin Baldoni had a small victory, he also suffered a major legal setback when U.S. District Judge Lewis J. Liman dismissed his massive $400 million defamation countersuit against Lively, Reynolds, and The New York Times. The lawsuit, filed just weeks after Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment, alleged the trio had orchestrated a smear campaign to damage his reputation.
The dismissal marked a turning point in the escalating legal battle, and Lively broke her silence shortly after the ruling with an emotional statement shared on her Instagram Stories.
"Like so many others, I've felt the pain of a retaliatory lawsuit, including the manufactured shame that tries to break us," she wrote on June 9. "While the suit against me was defeated, so many don't have the resources to fight back."
Both Lively and Baldoni are expected to testify when the case goes to trial in March 2026 in New York.

Ana de Armas Caught Liking Shady Post About Nicole Kidman
Today in celebrities being messy, Ana de Armas was caught liking an Instagram post speculating about Nicole Kidman's facial work. Which is pretty brow-raising considering Ana's spending a ton of time with Nicole's ex Tom Cruise—to the point where they're fielding dating rumors. The post in question is from February 6, comes from the account @celebmess, and implies that Nicole's claims that she's never used Botox are a lie (they even employed the classic "Sure, Jan" meme). Meanwhile, Ana's like is still on the post as of reporting this. As for what's going on with Tom and Ana, they're starring together in an upcoming thriller. And while it's definitely possible that they're just friendly coworkers, they have been on multiple vacations together recently—prompting speculation that there's something more going on. That said, a source recently told People that Ana is single, and that "Tom is crazy hardworking and she's very excited to work with him. She calls it an opportunity of a lifetime. Tom is an incredible mentor to Ana. She has nothing but amazing things to say about him." Meanwhile, another insider told the Daily Mail that "Tom has been showering Ana with gifts ever since they met, it's his thing, he is thoughtful. First it started with her favorite flowers then books he thought she would want to read because she's an avid reader. The more they got to know each other, the bigger the gifts became. There has been jewelry like gold bracelets and designer clothing, things like that, things every girl would love. Probably the biggest gift he has given her is being able to go anywhere in the world at a moment's notice, not many people can do that. She loves to travel."

Elle Fanning Said Fan Commentary Influenced Her Hunger Games Casting
When it was revealed this year that Elle Fanning would be playing Effie Trinket in the film adaptation of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, the announcement was both incredibly exciting and not all that surprising. Sunrise on the Reaping is the second prequel book in Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games novel series, and is set 24 years before the events of the first book in the original trilogy. The book — which hit shelves in March 2025 — and its accompanying movie adaptation were announced back in June 2024, and fans had already locked in their ideal castings for the prequel's younger versions of beloved characters like Haymitch Abernathy, Plutarch Heavensbee, Caesar Flickerman, and, of course, Effie Trinket. For context, Effie features heavily in the original Hunger Games trilogy as the escort and advisor to the District 12 tributes. And in Sunrise on the Reaping, a younger Effie is a stylist for Haymitch, who is preparing to participate in the 50th Hunger Games as the District 12 tribute. If you're familiar with the Hunger Games, you'll know that Effie — who was portrayed in the OG movies by Elizabeth Banks — is quite the fashionista. So, when it came to casting a younger Effie for Sunrise on the Reaping, minds went straight to Elle, who fans think has always been 'giving Effie Trinket energy.' 'y'all have any idea that this fandom has been making young effie edits with elle fanning for YEARS??? and until months ago this was an impossible dream???' one X post in response to the announcement read.'Casting director deserves an Oscar alone for what he's done here,' added another fan, while someone else wrote: 'OH MY GOD ITS HAPPENING THE PROPHECY WE MADE IT GUYSSZBDJCJFNDJDJFN.''Elle fanning as Effie Trinket was the most accurate and universally accepted casting that has ever happened in recent years,' echoed someone else. And now, Elle has weighed in on the discourse surrounding her casting, revealing that the online campaigning from fans definitely influenced her landing the job. During a new interview with Josh Horowitz for MTV, Elle was asked about her 'perfect casting' in the upcoming project, to which she said: 'It was funny, because I think fans made this happen in a way. The studio said they were getting kind of hounded online, like, 'Elle needs to play Effie'...So they called.' And it's not just the fans who are pleased with Elle's casting; Elizabeth Banks is very much on board too. When Elle was announced as Effie, Elizabeth contacted her directly with celebratory flowers and told People: 'I'm super excited. I texted the producers as well, and I think she's perfect.' Speaking with MTV, Elle expressed how thrilled she is to be following in Elizabeth's footsteps. 'I'm a huge fan, and Effie has always been my favorite character,' she said. 'I think Elizabeth Banks is— she brought so much, even beyond the books, like, layers to that character. I love her, and I have [gotten] to talk to Elizabeth. We've texted, and she sent me flowers and said, 'May the odds be ever in your favor.'' The movie is due to begin shooting this summer and is currently set to hit theaters on November 20, 2026. Giving some behind-the-scenes insight, Elle said: 'I haven't started filming yet, but we're thinking [about it] and hopefully making the fans happy.' As you may have seen, Elle's participation in Sunrise on the Reaping isn't the only fan-casting for the movie that became a reality. You can read a breakdown of who's playing who in the upcoming movie adaptation here.
