'Underrated' cologne for him that is 'truly unique' slashed by 67% at Superdrug

Daily Record10-06-2025
If there's one gift dad is sure to love this Father's Day, then it's a bottle of fragrance. Fortunately, there are many deals still available before Sunday, June 15.
One retailer offering hefty discounts across luxury branded scents is Superdrug, with over half-price being slashed across iconic designer bottles such as Hugo Boss, Emporio Armani, Jean Paul Gaultier and much more.
However, like perfume, choosing the right cologne can be difficult, but one dad will be able to get a lot off use out of is the Versace The Dreamer For Him Eau de Toilette that has been praised as "great for all year round."
Like many premium fragrances, it often comes with an expensive price-tag, with a large 100ml costing £74, although the health and beauty chain has slashed it to just £24, saving a staggering 67 percent off the RRP.
Described as "warm" and "fresh", Versace's Dreamer is an aromatic fragrance that, while belonging to the cologne family, is said to boast a variety of notes that make it suitable for both men and women.
The scent opens on vibrant notes of juniper, tarragon, and artemisia, before blending into heart notes of iris, lily and flax flowers to add a touch of softness. It then ends on a comforting base of tobacco blossom and amber, offering a smoky, luxurious finish.
The transparent, clear fragrance itself is housed in an opulent glass bottle that has been embossed with the iconic medusa logo, representing the luxury aesthetic of the iconic fashion house.
For the dads who love a mix of notes in their fragrance, then another deal worth looking into is on the Gucci Guilty Essence Pour Homme (90ml) that is now on offer at The Perfume Shop for £44.99, down from £97.
Another unisex style fragrance is Calvin Klein's CK One, which was the first to be marketed as such. Mixing earthy and fresh notes, shoppers can bag a large 200ml for just £32.50, down from £74, on Amazon.
However, shoppers keen to know more about Versace's The Dreamer EDT will be happy to hear it has earned a 4.6 rating and 91 percent recommendation rate from Superdrug shoppers, as they say it is a "truly unique" scent.

One-five star review read: "Truly unique and dreamy fragrance. It's a great fragrance but it's underrated. Guys you have to try this one, it's great for all year round."
A second delighted shopper said: "Absolutely amazing! Smell is subtle yet noticeable. Very clean and fresh. Meant for males but I think it is suitable for females too and for £30 off the price on offer 10/10."
Beauty deal of the week
It's almost Father's Day, and are you in need of some gift inspiration?
If you don't want to buy a last minute gift, then we have you covered, as a bottle of aftershave is always a good shout and Debenhams has just cut the Yves Saint Laurent L'Homme Eau De Toilette from £92 to just £55.20 for a large 100ml bottle.
There is also a smaller 60ml bottle that is a bit cheaper, with the price being reduced by 37 per cent from £68 to £43. Since reviews say it "stands out from the crowd", it's a deal worth bagging for dad.
Launched in 2006, this YSL fragrance has been described as "a fragrance for the urban and charismatic 21st century male". For the guy in your life who likes to smell a little different, then this is the bottle to reach for.
It opens on sparkling notes of bergamot, zesty cedarwood and Chinese ginger that has been met with the middle notes of violet leaves and basil flowers, offering a floral and spicy contrast.
It is said to end on base notes of sandalwood, Virginia cedar wood and Haitian vetiver to "highlight this charismatic and magnetic fragrance."
Those who want to stand out from the crowd will appreciate the YSL L'Homme Eau De Toilette, as it has earned a 4.7 rating from Debenhams fragrance buffs who have said it is "unusual" and "always gets compliments."
One positive review read: "An unusual and outstanding men's perfume! What an interesting fresh yet a hint of spice men's perfume! It's different. Stands out from the crowd.

Someone else remarked: "Not to be overlooked. This is a lesser known Versace men's fragrance but oh my it is gorgeous ! Hubby loved it and amazing value for money."
The longevity and less intense nature of the fragrance have been mentioned as a couple of drawbacks, with one three-star review read: "Decent scent once you get accustomed to it. Longevity is somewhat disappointing, given the price and brand."
By comparison, someone praising the longevity said: "Pleasant, not overpowering smell. Found it lasts longer than many others i have tried. I really like it."

Bill Bailey learning the bagpipes ahead of Scotland shows in tribute to Sean Lock

'I'm learning the bagpipes. I have a wonderful set of bagpipes that I own and I've had the bag changed into the Bailey tartan." Bill Bailey has revealed he is learning the bagpipes as he heads to Scotland for a string of shows. ‌ The stand-up comic and Strictly Come Dancing winner, 60, is perfecting his pipe playing in time for shows at Glasgow's Armadillo on August 22, and Edinburgh Playhouse on August 23 and 24. ‌ He said: 'I'm learning the bagpipes. I've got the basics. I wouldn't say I'm an expert. I have a wonderful set of bagpipes that I own and I've had the bag changed into the Bailey tartan. It's just a fantastic and such a powerful instrument.' ‌ He plans to play the pipes on his latest Thoughtifier tour dates in a tribute to fellow comedian Sean Lock, who died of cancer, aged 58, as he says 'they have that commemorative, haunting quality'. He added: 'There's something quite primal about it, especially in a small theatre. There'll be some classic stirring Scottish tunes. ‌ 'A drummer comes on and starts beating out the rhythm to a variety of different songs and it gets the hairs standing on the back of the neck every time.' Bill will also be in conversation with former SNP MP Mhairi Black at Edinburgh's Gilded Balloon on August 25. ‌ He said: 'The first time we drove to Edinburgh, we got lost. We were in a little Ford Fiesta. The car wasn't absolutely in mint condition so we had to avoid motorways. 'We got to our digs in Leith at six in the morning and next door there was a pub open. 'I came back many years after that and I love the whole experience.' Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Former Record reporter Bev Lyons turns tables by launching pop career

The Glasgow-born writer has interviewed the world's top stars. Showbiz journalist Bev Lyons has spent decades writing about everyone from Bieber to Beyonce and now she's about to release her own single. ‌ Bev, who was invited to sing at Glasgow's Pride in the Barrowland Ballroom over the weekend, can't wait to show off her self-penned song I'm Leaving You when it is released on Wednesday. ‌ The Glasgow-born writer and broadcaster, who has interviewed stars for the Record for over 20 years, began singing properly during the pandemic to entertain friends. ‌ She said: 'I've always loved performing and I used to sing at family parties when I was wee but I couldn't look at my audience 'cause I was too scared. "In more recent years I messed around in my bedroom, writing music on GarageBand.' Although Bev has always championed other stars, she did once perform with one of the UK's biggest pop names. ‌ She said: 'I won a karaoke competition to be one of Boy George's backing singers at Abbey Road for a rerelease of Karma Chameleon. It was an amazing experience and I thought that was my 15 minutes of fame.' Being a showbiz writer soon took over and Bev put her singing dreams on hold until lockdown when red carpet events came to an abrupt stop. With time on her hands she returned to her singing, taking virtual lessons from renowned vocal coach Robert Wishart. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Her performances got a thumbs-up and after Covid she was asked to appear at live gigs. She said: 'I love being able to sing tobigger audiences. 'My debut single is a pop song about life after love, inspired by songs by Cher, Miley Cyrus and Gloria Gaynor. It's a real upbeat anthem about hope, strength and survival.' ‌ Bev posted a clip of her song on social media and it's received acclaim from celeb followers including Deacon Blue's Lorraine McIntosh, Bay City Roller Stuart 'Woody' Wood, TV host Ross King, River City's Tom Urie, singers May Miller and Jesse Rae, and St Phoenix stars Alan and Stevie Jukes. Bev said: 'I'm absolutely loving the buzz and excitement just now and to be able to perform it at the iconic Barrowland Ballroom was a dream come true. 'I have been told I'll get radio play from some stations but I don't believe anything until it happens. As Oasis once said, I'll just roll with it.'
