Longtime NBA Player Allegedly Stole $250,000 From Vegas Casinos
Marcus Morris Sr. made more than $100 million over the course of his 13 years in the NBA. But the 35-year-old veteran has reportedly gotten himself caught up in a troublesome fraud charge that led to him being arrested in Florida over the weekend.
According to reports, Morris, who last played for the Cleveland Cavaliers two years ago, is alleged to have stolen more than $250,000 from a pair of prominent Las Vegas casinos.
Per court documents obtained by TMZ Sports, Morris is claimed to have gotten $115,000 out of the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino through bad checks that he never paid back.
And then about a month later, authorities claim the former Kansas star pulled something similar at the Wynn Las Vegas resort where he allegedly netted $150,000 through checks he knew wouldn't cash.
Morris' agent Yony Noy took to social media to dismiss the claims made against his client. Calling them "absolute insanity" and saying there was "zero fraud."
"Just so everyone understands this is zero fraud here or whatever crap outlets have said regarding fake checks or whatever the hell," Noy posted to X. "This is due to an outstanding marker with a casino. Apparently if you have over $1,200 they can issue a warrant for your arrest. Absolute insanity!"
Marcus' twin Markieff also weighed in on the situation where he similarly shut down the headlines made by his brother.
"The wording is crazy," Kieff said. "Damn for that amount of money they'll embarrass you in the airport with your family. They got y'all really thinking bro did some fraud [expletive]. They could have came to the crib for all that. When y'all hear the real story on this [expletive] man. All I can say is Lesson learned. Bro will tell y'all tomorrow. This weird [expletive] gave me a headache. Can't stop nothin!"
Both of the Morris twins had been appearing on ESPN as analysts recently where they'd regularly make cameos on programs like "First Take" and "Get Up."
Under Nevada state law unpaid casino markers are treated as bad checks, according to multiple law firms. Giannis Antetokounmpo's future with the Milwaukee Bucks remains uncertain, as fans continue to wait for his decision regarding the upcoming season. With all the movement going on around the NBA, ESPN's Shams Charania appeared on First Take on Monday to give an update on the 30-year-old Bucks star's status. While Antetokounmpo seems to be in no hurry to decide, the NBA insider claims that teams are on the prowl in case he becomes available on the trade market. Damian Lillard was actually traded to Milwaukee in September. So there are deals that happen late in summer." "He's been evaluating his future this entire offseason. I reported way back in mid-May that he is open-minded about whether his best fit is in Milwaukee or in a trade. That process has been continuing. There's been some conversations he's having with his inner circle. "The one big question that's been surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo, surrounding his camp, is can he win another championship? Is this Bucks roster built for this upcoming season, for him to win his second championship?" With teams being linked to him, Antetokounmpo recently proclaimed his love for Milwaukee in an interview with internet personality iShowSpeed (real name Darren Watskin Jr.). "A lot of people are trying to convince me to play there," Antetokounmpo told Watkins when asked about moving teams. Watkins then asked if he plans to stay in Milwaukee, to which he replied, "Probably." "We'll see, probably. I love Milwaukee," he continued. Tyrese Maxey gives praise to James Harden for time with Sixers
James Harden's time with the Philadelphia 76ers was productive on the court. He led the league in assists in the 2022-23 season as he helped Joel Embiid win the MVP award while helping Tyrese Maxey take the next step forward in his career. Across 1.5 seasons with the Sixers, Harden averaged 21.0 points, 10.6 assists, and 6.4 rebounds. He was certainly up and down in the 7-game semifinal series loss to the Boston Celtics in 2023, but he did win Game 1 on the road while Embiid was out with an injury. Maxey hopped on "The Deep 3 Podcast" and gave his thoughts on Harden's time with the Sixers (h/t HoopsHype): The biggest thing I learned is—I know (James Harden), and I know people aren't going to say he sacrificed, but he sacrificed. He gave up some of himself for the team, for the betterment of the team. He was able to get Joel a lot of easy shots. He got me a lot of easy shots. But it was all about trust. From day one when he came in, the first thing he said to me was, 'Listen, don't think you're not going to get the ball. Don't think you're not about to still be aggressive and keep building your game.' His first instinct was always, whether we scored or didn't, he was going to pitch it ahead to me—let me score in transition, play that one-on-one game, shoot—whatever the case may be. Then I'd get it back, and it would just flow from there. Harden was very complimentary of Maxey after his Los Angeles Clippers beat the Sixers early in the 2024-25 season. It's obvious that the two of them are still friends and they have kept a good relationship even after Harden requested a trade in the 2023 offseason.
