BJP MLA Ashwani Sharma extended full backing from the Punjab unit of his party to the resolution, questioning why Haryana had received water in excess of its due share over the past three years. "We may call it the magnanimity of Punjabis or whatever, but we should have held a discussion on that as well," he said. "This is not a fight against Haryana. We are fighting to safeguard our rights."
Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira escalated the tone of criticism, blaming what he termed a "deep state" for systemic discrimination against Punjab. He linked recent national events — including unrest in Manipur, issues in Jammu & Kashmir UT, and political developments in southern states — to covert central interference. He also accused the "deep state" of orchestrating the premature end of the farmers' agitation.
Khaira condemned the removal of Punjab's permanent power representative from the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) and urged the state govt to move the high court or Supreme Court. He, along with Congress colleague Pargat Singh, called the
Dam Safety Act
an "erroneous" piece of legislation designed to centralise control, at the cost of Punjab's autonomy.

He too called for the repeal of the Dam Safety Act. Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema of the Aam Aadmi Party demanded accountability from the opposition — Congress particularly — for what he described as "historical blunders" in managing Punjab's water interests. He urged opposition leaders to apologise to the people and called on the Punjab and Haryana high court to take cognisance of the crisis.
Echoing the sense of urgency, education minister Harjot Singh Bains highlighted the water crisis in his Anandpur Sahib constituency, where dozens of villages have inadequate access to both drinking and irrigation water — despite being close to the Bhakra Main Line and Nangal Dam. "With no coal, gold, or oil, groundwater is Punjab's only natural resource. And it's vanishing," he said, citing data that 90% of the state's groundwater blocks are over-exploited and now classified as dark zones.
Bains warned against releasing excess water from the Bhakra Dam, asserting that the region's agrarian economy was already at risk due to groundwater depletion.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday said the resolution of the "Kashmir problem" does not lie in violence but in education, emphasising that Kashmir is an educated society. "The resolution of the Kashmir problem does not lie in guns or lathis, but in pens. Kashmiri society is an educated society," Pradhan said, addressing the inauguration ceremony of the nine-day Chinar Book Festival at the SKICC here. The Union Minister of Education highlighted that following the abrogation of Article 370 by the Centre in 2019, democratic processes are gradually being restored in Jammu and Kashmir. "Numerous things are happening for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir. Democratic processes have been restored after many years. Several facilities or programmes for the poor and backwards classes, or various laws, which were not being implemented here before, are now benefitting the people of Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370," he added. Later, speaking to reporters, Pradhan noted that before the abrogation of Article 370, local elections had not occurred in the Union Territory for several years. "The grassroots-level representation of the people was missing; now, gradually, the democratic system is being restored in Jammu and Kashmir," he said. Asserting that normalcy is returning to Kashmir, Pradhan expressed confidence that the tourism sector in the Valley is doing well, local businesses are stabilising, and as the system moves forward, the development of the people will lead to prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir. Pradhan announced that to enhance the library movement in Jammu and Kashmir, the National Book Trust (NBT) will implement various Central schemes in the Union Territory. He assured that by next year's Chinar Festival, various books in the local languages of Jammu and Kashmir will be translated into other languages of the country. Additionally, the Union minister mentioned that efforts would be made to establish the Chinar Book Festival as a permanent event. Pradhan celebrated the success of the festival, noting that despite the prevalence of the internet, books still possess the power to engage the new generation.

Maha govt mute spectator to rising crime, Rs 4,900 cr freebie scam: Sule
NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule on Saturday slammed the BJP-led Mahayuti government for failing to address the rising crime rate in Maharashtra, accusing it of being a mute spectator as miscreants had no fear of the law. Speaking to reporters here, the Baramati MP claimed that a Rs 4,900 crore scam had taken place in the Majhi Ladki Bahin Yogana, the government's flagship scheme that provides a monthly assistance of Rs 1,500 to women. She said parts of the state, including Pune and Beed districts, have witnessed a steady surge in crimes, while the government remains a mute spectator. "People have lost faith in the system. There is no fear of the law. Who is backing these criminals? Instead of looking into these questions, the government chooses to stay silent," she said. Sule criticised the delay in the formation of a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the 2022 murder of Parli-based businessman Mahadev Munde. "Only after Munde's wife, Dnyaneshwari, attempted self-immolation and met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, did the government act. We demand a fair and transparent probe by the SIT," she said. Sule also raised concerns about the recent communal unrest at Yavat in Daund tehsil, where groups of persons, angered by a social media post, vandalised and set ablaze properties. "This is a sensitive region. Political leaders and outsiders coming in and inciting unrest is unacceptable. I urge the chief minister and deputy chief ministers to control their people," she said. Sule urged Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, also the guardian minister of Pune, to ensure peace and communal harmony in Daund. "We have deep roots in Daund. Let's not allow outsiders to disturb its social fabric," she said. Maharashtra has become an example of how power and money can derail governance, she claimed. "There is a Rs 4,900-crore scam in the Ladki Bahin scheme. Farmers are committing suicide, and yet the government is focused on self-promotion," she alleged. Maharashtra Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare recently admitted that nearly 26.34 lakh ineligible persons, including men, were availing benefits of the Ladki Bahin scheme. On Fadnavis's recent remarks about rising hooliganism in Pune, Sule said, "If you acknowledge there's a law and order issue, what action have you taken? Who is protecting these contractors and gangsters?" She also flagged irregularities in the Election Commission's handling of voter rolls in Bihar, demanding a detailed discussion in the Parliament on electoral transparency and accountability.
