The film turns on Eva (Nora Navas, 'Pain and Glory,' 'The Distinguished Citizen'), a married woman on a quest for passion whose life takes a dramatic turn after a serendipitous encounter in Rome. She remembers what it feels like to fall in love again.
Juan Diego Botto ('The Suicide Squad') and Rodrigo de la Serna ('Money Heist') co-star.
'We're big fans of Cesc Gay's films and believe 'My Friend Eva's' lead character, this wonderful, interesting and relatable middle aged woman ,has the power to resonate with a large audience,' said Torsten Frehse, Neue Visionen CEO.
'My Friend Eva' is written by Gay and Edu Sola, winner of a screenplay Goya this year for 'A House on Fire.' It marks the latest from Imposible Films, Gay's near career-long producer.
'The film will have its eagerly-awaited release in Spain in September. Until then, we will continue to celebrate all the film's achievements on the international stage, as well as the news about another one of Cesc's films, 'The People Upstairs,' of which a star-studded American remake was recently announced,' said Diaz.
'Eva is my first female protagonist. I'd been wanting to write a leading lady for a long time, but hadn't dared to… until now! And I'm so glad I did, because I've found both writing and directing this film to be extremely stimulating and needless to say, we're all very happy with the result,' Gay noted.
Produced by Marta Esteban at Barcelona-based Imposible Films, writer-director Gay has helmed 10 features since his debut 1998 'Hotel Room.' An ironist, with a sharp sense of societal pressures and the contradictions of human relationships and human foible, Gay is one of a relatively small number of Spanish directors whose films can open in cinema theaters outside Spain to substantial box office, as was the case with 'Truman' in Brazil, for example.
He also directed TV series 'Félix,' selected for main competition at Canneseries.

Belly Finally Got an Engagement Ring on 'The Summer I Turned Pretty'—And You Can Shop It Now
Every item on this page was chosen by an ELLE editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy. If you were surprised that Jeremiah Fisher proposed to Belly Conklin without a ring—and without kneeling!—in the season 3 premiere of The Summer I Turned Pretty, then let the newest episode make up for that. In this week's chapter of the Prime Video series, Jeremiah finally gets down on one knee and asks for Belly's hand in marriage with a proper diamond. The ring in question is The Diamond Fizz Ring from Catbird. It's a sweet and delicate piece that fits Belly's youthful, summery style, consisting of a yellow gold band and a round white diamond. This just marks one of the many ways the Brooklyn-based jeweler teamed up with TSITP for its third and final season. The brand and the show also collaborated on a seven-piece collection inspired by Belly's story and summery themes, from infinity-shaped rings (if you know, you know) to seashell charms. Below, Catbird's chief creative officer Leigh Batnick Plessner spills all the details on Belly's new bling. First, let's lay out the stats: The Fizz Ring is made of 100-percent recycled, solid 14K yellow gold with a band measuring about .80mm. As for the stone, it's a 3mm-round, .089-carat recycled white diamond with a brilliant cut. The piece currently retails online and in stores for $289. A petite version is priced at $168. The Catbird team primarily works with 14K gold, and this ring is only offered in that material because of its size. Silver would've been 'too delicate,' Plessner tells ELLE, 'and we really want it to stand the test of time.' Which is exactly what you want in an engagement ring. Plessner loves seeing how different people style the piece, whether that means wearing it on different fingers or stacking it with other pieces. 'The diamond is slightly lifted so it can fit in with other rings [when stacked],' she says. (That might even include Belly's future wedding band.) The ring was not custom-designed for the series, but instead pulled from Catbird's Fizz collection, which is made entirely with recycled brilliant cut diamonds and solid 14K gold. It first debuted 'as we were emerging from COVID,' Plessner recalls. The name 'fizz' was meant to evoke 'a little bit of effervescence, and it felt so good to be out and about,' she says. The design is intended for both everyday use and for engagements. 'It felt equally perfect to me when they pulled that ring,' Plessner says of the TSITP team. 'Something that we always think about with our jewelry is this idea of how different people wear it, how it can shape-shift to suit your style, both in the moment and over time,' Plessner explains. 'Or this idea of maybe one day a child finding a ring in their parents' jewelry box and fitting it into their lives. So I think it suits young love because it's so wearable and it can grow with you over time, and it can always suit whatever evolution of your personal style you might be in.' Belly is 20 years old and a junior in college when she gets engaged, which means a ring like this can still match her style as she grows and evolves through the years. The linkup began when Plessner received a personal Instagram DM from Carol Lim, a co-founder of Opening Ceremony and a close friend of Jenny Han, the author and showrunner of The Summer I Turned Pretty. 'She's obviously iconic New York retail royalty,' she recalls. When meeting with Lim, 'we started to talk about the idea of a collection and a collaboration, and we have some really massive Summer I Turned Pretty fans on our team as well, so everyone was really excited,' she says. And while the series might seem to cater to a younger audience (we adult women who binge the show after work beg to differ), there's something universal about its romantic and summery appeal. 'Everybody has a relationship with summer, but this idea of this pocket of time when the beach is so special—that feels really connected to an East Coast summer experience I'm so familiar with,' Plessner says. Belly's ring captures a rising ethos around engagement rings rather than a specific trending design. The Fizz Ring, like many of Catbird's offerings, can be described as 'jewelry that makes you feel more like yourself,' according to Plessner. 'In that sense, it's really reflective of a moment where people really feel free to pursue their path.' Belly knows how to do exactly that. As Lola Tung, the actress behind the character, recently told ELLE, she knows what she wants, even if that means facing criticism for getting married at a young age. 'She knows she's young, but she's also quite stubborn and is making decisions for herself,' Tung said. 'She's like, 'I need to do what I need to do for myself to protect myself, and to feel safe, and to feel like I am in control of my story and my life.''

32-year-old gorilla gives birth to ‘bundle of joy' at CO zoo. See it cling to mom
A gorilla had her third baby at a Colorado zoo, and keepers are calling it a 'bundle of joy.' The zoo was filled with 'pure joy' on July 21, after welcoming the newest baby gorilla, according to a Facebook post by the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. The baby's mom, 32-year-old Asha, a critically endangered Western lowland gorilla, is bonding with her new baby, and the pair 'seem to be doing well,' zookeepers said. 'Asha is sitting and lying down with the baby and gently patting its back, which is really adorable,' Ashton Asbury, the Primate World animal keeper, said in the post. 'The baby hangs onto Asha while she's moving around and she supports it with one hand. They're bonding really well, and we have seen her licking the baby's head and grooming it.' Even first-time dad Goma, 34, 'is showing interest in the baby, too,' zookeepers said. 'He seems to want to stick close to her and the baby,' Asbury said. 'I heard him making happy gorilla grumbles at them, and Asha is doing a good job of showing him the baby while keeping a comfortable distance.' Asha was born at the zoo in 1992, and Goma came in 2016 as part of the Western Lowland Gorilla Species Survival Plan, zookeepers said. The baby, who hasn't been named and whose sex hasn't been identified, is already meeting milestones, like 'nursing and clinging to its mom,' zookeepers said. Asha has had two other babies at the Colorado Springs-based zoo, and the 'goal is to let Asha take the lead on newborn care,' zookeepers said. The baby will 'likely cling to Asha for the first several weeks' as it gets to know their dad, zookeepers said. Facebook users rushed to the comments to congratulate Asha, with one person saying, 'SO PRECIOUS.' 'This is so beautiful,' another wrote. 'That baby is cuuuuuttttteeeee! **squeel!*' another said. Colorado Springs is about a 70-mile drive southeast from Denver.

Ozzy Osbourne's unique, but fitting final business ventures — including cans laced with his DNA
Can Ozzy Osbourne be resurrected? If you'd like to give it a try, purchase a can of this while supplies last. The legendary 'Prince of Darkness' who died on Tuesday at 76 partnered last month with Liquid Death – the canned water brand known for its heavy metal aesthetic – to sell special-edition cans of iced tea. The major, head-banging twist: These cans purportedly bear traces of Osbourne's DNA. 4 Ozzy Osbourne crushing a can of Liquid Death iced tea. Liquid Death The ad pitch from Liquid Death claims the 'Iron Man' singer drank and then crushed 10 cans of its iced tea, leaving behind 'trace DNA from his saliva.' 'Now, when technology and federal law permits, you'll be able to replicate Ozzy Osbourne and enjoy him for hundreds of years into the future,' the company said. 'DNA integrity and cloning results not guaranteed,' the company added. With Osbourne's signature on each package, the cans originally sold out quickly at $450 a pop – but that price soared as high as $4,655 for a resale on eBay after his death on Tuesday. 'Ozzy Osbourne is 1 of 1. But we're selling his actual DNA so you can recycle him forever,' Liquid Death said of the collaboration, which is called 'Infinitely Recyclable Ozzy.' 4 Three crushed cans with Ozzy Osbourne's signature – and apparent traces of his DNA. Liquid Death A regular Liquid Death iced tea sells for about $2 at Walmart and Stop & Shop. The Black Sabbath frontman also partnered with UK-based Jolie Beauty earlier this month on a limited-edition makeup collection with the moniker 'I'm Going Through Changes'. It included makeup brushes with black and red bristles, a hand mirror that looks like a vinyl record and lip products and eye glitters with shade names like 'Bloodbath,' 'Nightmare' and 'Hellraiser.' These weren't Osbourne's first unconventional partnerships. 4 Ozzy Osbourne performing during the half-time show at the 2022 NFL season opening game. Osbourne died 'surrounded by love,' his family said in a statement to The Post shortly after his death on Tuesday. 'It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,' said the statement from his wife Sharon and four of his six kids – Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis. 4 Ozzy Osbourne's eyeshadow palette with makeup brand Jolie Beauty. Jolie Beauty His death came more than five years after he announced his Parkinson's disease diagnosis, and just a few weeks after his final show reunited with Black Sabbath in the band's hometown of Birmingham, England. Osbourne was known for his outrageous behavior – allegedly biting the head off a dove during a 1981 record company meeting and allegedly doing the same to a bat during a 1982 show in Iowa. The metal icon reportedly snorted a line of ants while on tour in the 1980s, according to documentary 'The Dirt,' and was arrested for urinating on the Cenotaph, a landmark at the Alamo in Texas. His antics only fed his legendary career as Sabbath's lead singer, a successful solo artist and star of the reality TV series 'The Osbournes,' which ran from 2002 to 2005.
