Hundreds celebrate International Yoga Day in Beijing
The event began with a soulful kirtan and continued with an energizing session of the Common Yoga Protocol, officially marking the start of the 11th International Yoga Day celebrations at the Old Chancery complex.

In a series of posts on X, the Indian Embassy in China said, 'The sun rose, the mats rolled out, and the 11th International Yoga Day began at Old Chancery complex, Beijing, with calm and purpose. From a beautiful Kirtan to the energizing Common Yoga Protocol, the morning brought together hundreds of yoga lovers.'
'A guided meditation helped participants centre themselves & experience calm. The experience was elevated with a graceful performance blending yoga with the grace of Odissi! The crowd was also spellbound by the advanced yoga demonstrations,' it posted.
'Winners of online contests held in the run-up to Yoga Day were felicitated, alongside participants of the spirited Yoga Challenge! Gratitude to the yoga masters & dedicated volunteers who brought the celebration to life,' it added.

Meanwhile, the first batch of 'Kailash Manasarovar Yatra' Yatris also performed Yoga while on their way.
In a post on X, the Indian Embassy said, 'Yoga for health, peace and harmony. The first batch of 'Kailash Manasarovar Yatra' Yatris via Nathu La route, performed Yoga to mark the International Day of Yoga 2025 in Bainang County in Tibet Autonomous Region, while on their way to perform the holy Yatra.'

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the 11th International Day of Yoga celebrations in Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam, hailing yoga as a gift 'beyond age' that transcends all boundaries and unites humanity in 'health and harmony.'
The event took place against the scenic backdrop of the Visakhapatnam coastline, with Indian Navy ships stationed near the shore, adding to the grandeur of the celebrations.
The Prime Minister praised the efforts of the Andhra Pradesh government and extended his appreciation to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan for hosting the event in Visakhapatnam.
Recognising its universal appeal, on 11 December 2014, the United Nations proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga by resolution 69/131.
The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practising yoga.
Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. The word 'yoga' derives from Sanskrit and means to join or to unite, symbolising the union of body and consciousness.
Today, it is practised in various forms around the world and continues to grow in popularity. (ANI)

Indian Navy carries out firefighting, rescue operation on Palau-flagged tanker in Arabian Sea
New Delhi [India], July 1 (ANI): Indian Navy undertook a high-risk firefighting and rescue operation on board Palau-flagged tanker MT Yi Cheng 6 on June 29, ensuring the safety of 14 Indian crew members, the Defence Ministry said in a release. As per the release, in the early hours of June 29, 2025, INS Tabar on mission-based deployment received a Mayday distress call from MT Yi Cheng 6. The vessel reported a major fire outbreak in its engine room whilst operating approximately 80 nautical miles east of Fujairah, UAE. Responding swiftly, INS Tabar proceeded at maximum speed to provide assistance. The ship reached the vicinity of the distressed vessel and, upon arrival, established communication with the Master of the vessel and commenced firefighting operations, the release stated. Prioritising crew safety, seven crew members were immediately evacuated to INS Tabar using the ship's boats. No injuries were reported, and Tabar's medical team examined all the crew. The remaining crew members, including the Master, stayed onboard to assist with fire containment. INS Tabar deployed a six-member firefighting and damage control team with firefighting equipment, it added. The Defence Ministry stated that initial firefighting efforts by Indian Naval personnel and the ship's crew resulted in a considerable reduction in the fire's intensity, with smoke confined to the engine room. The firefighting effort was further reinforced with 13 additional Indian Navy personnel (5 officers and 8 sailors). Sustained efforts by the Indian Navy's firefighting team, along with crew members, have successfully brought the fire under control. Continuous temperature checks and monitoring are being undertaken. INS Tabar remains on station for continued support, as mentioned in the release. The valiant effort of Indian Naval personnel has ensured the safety of the ship along with all Indian crew members. This incident once again highlights the Indian Navy's rapid response capability, operational preparedness, humanitarian approach to maritime safety and reaffirms India's role as the first responder in the Indian Ocean Region. Bihar cabinet approves Rs 888 cr plan to develop Sitamarhi's Maa Janaki Temple: CM Nitish Kumar
Patna (Bihar) [India], July 1 (ANI): Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday announced that the state cabinet has approved a comprehensive development plan for Punaura Dham, the revered birthplace of Goddess Sita in Sitamarhi district. The plan includes the construction of a grand temple and other structures, modeled after the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra in Ayodhya. The cabinet has approved a budget of Rs 882.78 crore for the construction of the temple at Punaura Dham, which is considered to be the birthplace of Goddess Sita, the wife of Ram. 'I am extremely delighted to inform that the birthplace of Mother Janaki, Punaura Dham, Sitamarhi, has received approval from the cabinet today for a comprehensive development plan, including the construction of a grand temple and other structures,' the Bihar CM wrote in a post on X in Hindi. Mentioning plans to lay the foundation stone by August, just a month away, the post added, 'The cabinet has approved a budget of 882 crore 87 lakh rupees for the comprehensive development plan prepared for Punaura Dham. The implementation of this plan will commence soon. I have instructed that its foundation stone be laid by the month of August. We are determined to complete the construction of the grand temple in Punaura Dham, Sitamarhi, at the earliest.' 'Its comprehensive development will be carried out on the lines of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirth Kshetra, Ayodhya. The construction of the grand temple of Mother Janaki in Punaura Dham is a matter of fortune and pride for all the people of the country and especially for all of us in Bihar,' his post said. Earlier on June 22, the Chief Minister had revealed that the designs for the 'holistic development' of the temple have been finalized a dedicated trust has also been formed to expedite the construction. The new design plans include a 151-foot-tall structure, wide walkways, and ample green cover, making it ideal for devotees to visit and pay homage to Goddess Sita. Punaura Dham, also known as Maa Janaki Janmabhoomi Temple, is widely considered to be the birthplace of Goddess Sita, the wife of Ram. After the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, multiple people associated with the Janaki temple brought gifts for Lord Ram during the Pran Pratishtha ceremony held on January 22, 2024. According to Bihar tourism, Punaura Dham also contains other attractions, like a lake which is believed to help with her pregnancy, and Panth Pakar, which is associated with Sita's marriage. Work is also ongoing to establish a road connection between Ayodhya's Ram Mandir and Maa Janaki temple, known as 'Ram-Janaki Marg. ' In September last year, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar urged PM Modi to expedite the construction of the connection. The CM also asked for a Vande Bharat connection to be started between the two cities. The group, which is involved in security cooperation, humanitarian and disaster relief work, and developmental activities, is also a way of member states to counter China's hegemonic designs in the region. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The Quad at-sea Ship Observer Mission was conceptualised at the Quad Summit 2024 in Wilmington in the United States. Under the Wilmington Declaration, the Coast Guards of India, Japan, the United States, and Australia have launched the 'QUAD at Sea Ship Observer Mission', which involves the deployment of two officers, including women officers, from each country on board US Coast Guard Cutter (USCGC) Stratton, which is currently sailing to Guam, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement. 'The cross-embarkation mission marks an unprecedented step in Quad Coast Guard collaboration, enhancing joint readiness, operational coordination, and domain awareness in support of a Free, Open, Inclusive, and Rules-Based Indo-Pacific,' the statement further said. While Quad is not a military alliance, the member states have increased military cooperation under Quad framework in recent years. Former US President Joe Biden, who hosted the Quad Summit 2024 at his home in Wilmington, joined hands with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make Quad one of the leading instruments of managing the Indo-Pacific region and countering the Chinese aggressive posturing in the region. In 2023, India, Australia, Japan, and the United States held military drills off the Australian coast. The drills were widely dubbed as 'Quad Drills'. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The MoD said that India's participation in the Quad at-Sea Ship Observer Mission reinforces its strategic maritime vision of Sagar (Security and Growth for All in the Region) and complements national efforts under the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI), with an emphasis on capacity-building, humanitarian outreach, and maritime rule of law. Moreover, the Quad at-sea initiative thus sets the foundation for a 'QUAD Coast Guard Handshake', fostering stronger trust, coordination, and collective resilience amid evolving maritime challenges in the region, the statement further said.
