Jomboy producer under fire for ‘kill yourself' comment at George Springer
'F–k you Springer, kill yourself,' Rourke said on his 'Yankees Avenue' livestream after Springer scored to give Toronto a 4-2 lead over the Yankees in the fifth inning of the 8-4 win. 'Piece of s–t.'

The clip went viral on X and Reddit, with fans up in arms at the comments, particularly given Rourke's affiliation with Jomboy Media, which has become a major component of MLB's media ecosystem in recent years.
'I can't stress how much of a pathetic piece of garbage loser you are @DanAlanRourke,' wrote a Blue Jays fan account on X. 'This guy is employed by jomboy telling players to kill themselves. F–k you.'
Jomboy founder Jimmy O'Brien addressed the situation in a video Thursday night.

'Dan Rourke does his livestream for Yanks Ave … and said some stuff you can't say,' O'Brien said. 'I talked with Dan today. Everyone at the company has been talking and he came up to us … and he was feeling awful, and I think he's going to apologize and all of that.'
Yankees Avenue is Rourke's personal livestream, which is unaffiliated with Jomboy Media, but Rourke is employed by Jomboy and is a well-known member of the company.

'He grew up in gaming culture, young kid culture, you talk s–t during livestreams,' O'Brien added. 'That's no excuse to tell a player to go kill yourself. Joking, not joking, obviously you can't say that and it's terrible, and there might be ramifications from it.'
O'Brien said those ramifications could be determined by MLB, which agreed to a strategic partnership with Jomboy in June.

'The league might call us and say, 'Hey, he's not allowed here,'' O'Brien said.
For now, though, none of that has taken place.
O'Brien added that he's learned to tone down his language since he's become a public figure with Jomboy, even if he never meant any of his comments in a malicious way.
'Anyone that's my age used a lot of words in the early 2000s, very freely, that you can't say anymore …used a lot of phrases, not with ill-intent behind them,' O'Brien said. 'Obviously [Rourke] didn't have any ill-intent behind them, but obviously that doesn't excuse anything.'

A year after they were (to a degree) deadline sellers, the Blue Jays are soaring
Even when they traded away a handful of established players at last year's deadline, the Toronto Blue Jays clearly believed a rebound was possible. A year later, they have a comfortable lead atop the AL East. It's hard to say that last year's deadline jump-started Toronto's turnaround, but the important thing is the Blue Jays didn't give up on their core despite being on their way to a last-place finish in 2024. They dealt players like Yusei Kikuchi and Justin Turner — but Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette remained with Toronto. Keeping those two was something of a risk given that both could become free agents after this season. Bichette still can, but the Blue Jays were able to sign Guerrero to a 14-year, $500-million contract in April. Guerrero, Bichette and George Springer are part of a Toronto team that ranks third in the American League in OPS while leading the majors in batting average and on-base percentage. Even after a lopsided loss to Detroit, the Blue Jays have a 5 1/2-game lead over the second-place New York Yankees — although Toronto also has the second-worst run differential in the division. The Blue Jays have the best record in baseball by a half-game over the Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers. Toronto has won 21 of its last 27 games, and included in that stretch is a 6-1 record against the Yankees. The Blue Jays are 7-3 against New York, meaning they have clinched that season series should it become a tiebreaker. New York is just 11-18 against the AL East. Trivia time The Blue Jays last made the World Series in 1993. Who are the only other American League teams with longer droughts since their most recent pennants? Tumbling Tigers Detroit's 10-4 win over Toronto snapped a six-game skid for the Tigers — and that does not do justice to how poorly they were playing. Detroit had lost 12 of 13, being outscored 89-33 in the process. Ace Tarik Skubal can only do so much. The lone win during that stretch came in one of his starts — a 2-1 victory over Texas on July 20. When he took the mound six days later against Toronto, he threw six scoreless innings, only to have the Tigers go on to lose 6-1. Before Detroit fans panic too much, the Tigers had built up such a big lead that they still have an eight-game advantage over second-place Cleveland in the AL Central after the victory. FanGraphs gives them a 95.9% chance to make the playoffs. But their chances of earning a first-round bye — by having one of the top two records among AL division winners — is down to 52.6%. Line of the week More like line of the decade. Or perhaps the century. A's rookie Nick Kurtz went 6 for 6 with four home runs, eight RBIs and six runs in a 15-3 rout of Houston. Kurtz became the 20th player in major league history — and first rookie — with a four-homer game. He also doubled and singled, so he tied the single-game record for total bases with 19. Comeback of the week Minnesota had a one-run lead at Los Angeles in the bottom of the ninth — and Griffin Jax retired the first two batters for the Dodgers. Then it all unraveled for the Twins. Mookie Betts singled, Shohei Ohtani was walked intentionally, Esteury Ruiz drew another walk and then Freddie Freeman singled home two runs for a 4-3 win. The Twins had a win probability of 95.6% after the second out, according to Baseball Savant. Trivia answer The Orioles (1983), Athletics (1990), Twins (1991) and Mariners (never).

Glorious Goodwood racing tips: Best bets and odds for day one
Tuesday's Glorious Goodwood tips Castle Cove (Goodwood, 13.20) – 1pt win @ 4/1 (William Hill) Zavateri (Goodwood, 13.55) – 0.5pt each-way @ 6/1 (Ladbrokes) Kinross (Goodwood, 14.30) – 0.5pt win @ 10/3 (William Hill) French Master (Goodwood, 15.05) – 0.5pt each-way @ 11/2 (Ladbrokes) Enchanting (Goodwood, 15.45) – 0.5pt each-way @ 14/1 (William Hill) Naval Light (Goodwood, 16.20) – 1pt win @ 13/8 (Bet365) Mahra's Love (Goodwood, 16.55) – 0.5pt each-way @ 6/1 (William Hill) Cinque Verde (Goodwood, 17.30) – 0.5pt each-way @ 11/1 (William Hill) Coral Chesterfield Cup Handicap tips – 13.20 Goodwood Six of the last 10 winners of this tricky 1m2f handicap have come from double figure draws and the likely market leader on betting sites, Castle Cove, has that in his favour. The William Haggas-trained gelding showed ability when scoring at Leicester on debut last year. Comfortably held on his next two starts, he returned from a lengthy break to win going away off a hold-up ride at Chester last month. Both his wins have come with some ease in the ground but he should handle the forecast good going and an 8lb rise makes him look well treated now. He is unexposed and is taken to successfully follow up. Coral Vintage Stakes tips – 13.55 Goodwood The Coral Vintage Stakes looks like being a very informative Group 2 contest over 7f. Aidan O'Brien is responsible for the likely favourite, Dorset, who comes into this on the back of a maiden win at the Curragh last month. He should go well, as should Humidity, for the Andrew Balding/James Doyle combination. A number of other debut winners in the field make this a bit of a conundrum but I like the look of Zavateri, who is 2-2. His style of running suggests he will relish this step up in trip. Eve Johnson Houghton's colt is already proven in this grade, having won the Bahrain Stakes at Newmarket's July meeting, where he improved plenty for his debut success. He has a penalty to shoulder but looks capable of further improvement. Horse racing betting sites price him up at 6/1 to make his mark at Goodwood. HKJC World Pool Lennox Stakes tips – 14.30 Goodwood This looks tricky, with plenty of runners involved where some sort of case can be made and, at the same time, there can be some holes picked in their form. The award for consistency at this level would surely go to Kinross, and Ralph Beckett's eight-year-old gets the nod. He ran a blinder when runner-up in the Group 3 John Of Gaunt Stakes at Haydock on his reappearance. He should be spot on after that, acts on any ground and he is taken to add to his two previous wins in this race. Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup Stakes tips – 15.05 Goodwood The centrepiece on day one is this Group 1 contest for the stayers and some of the sport's greatest have lifted this prize. Aidan O'Brien saddles the pre-race favourite, Illinois, who finished second to Trawlerman in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot last month. His trainer said he didn't get a 'Cup preparation' for that event as he was being trained for shorter events, so it was an admirable effort and he looks a worthy market leader. Given that John and Thady Gosden trained the winner that day, they'll have a handle on how French Master compares and he steps up from Royal Ascot handicap success to the top table this time. That win was a career-best and he's earned his place in this field. An extra couple of furlongs looks a positive and he could emerge as a major player. A price of 11/2 on betting apps looks like good value for the French Master to triumph. Coral Golden Rewards Shaker Handicap tips – 15.45 Goodwood Another tough big field handicap on day one is this Class 2 contest over 5f. Even though this is a straight track, it does take a bit of knowing and those with course form adds a little extra confidence. Into that category comes the Andrew Balding-trained Enchanting. He's a standish dish here, having won three times over C&D and run well on other occasions. He steps up in class this time, so does have a little to prove in that respect but conditions won't be a problem and he looks capable of going close at a double figure price. British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes tips – 16.20 Goodwood There's plenty of promise in the line-up, not least Naval Light. Karl Burke's colt found just one too good on debut at Beverley and was pitched in at Group 2 level at Royal Ascot. He didn't improve his chances that day with a slow start and, as a consequence, could never really get into the race. However, he came home well to pick off half of the field. Pilot James Doyle will surely not let him suffer the same start twice and he looks capable of breaking his duck at the third attempt. Ridgeview Fillies' Handicap tips – 16.55 Goodwood An excellent effort by Dash Of Azure when fifth in the Sandringham at Royal Ascot has ensured the layers want to keep her onside and any value in her price has gone as a result. That's not the case with Mahra's Love, who comes here seeking a hat-trick after wins at Kempton (7f, AW) and more recently when making all at York (1m, good to firm). There was plenty to like about how she took that race by the scruff of the neck and comfortably accounted for the field. Her trainer, William Haggas, has his string in continued good form and she looks likely to continue on an upward curve, despite a 6lb rise. World Pool Bet With The Tote EBF Fillies' Handicap tips – 17.30 Goodwood The day one nightcap is another fillies' contest, this time over 6f. There looks to be a cracking each-way play here in Cinque Verde, who represents Tony Carroll. The daughter of Sioux Nation has had more success on all weather surfaces than turf but she has won on a sound surface, sees out 6f well and has been more consistent than many sprinters this calendar year. There are no secrets with her but she arrives on a competitive mark and looks capable of another big effort at a track where she's already been placed this season.
