Siddaramaiah flags possible Covid vaccine link in Hassan's heart attack deaths

India Today2 days ago
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said the government has taken serious note of the alarming rise in heart attack-related deaths in Hassan district in the past month. In a post on X, Siddaramaiah announced that a committee headed by Dr. Ravindranath, Director of Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, has been tasked with investigating the cause of these deaths. The panel has been asked to submit a report within 10 days. He said the same committee was earlier asked to study whether sudden deaths among young people in the state were linked to Covid vaccines or any other health factors.advertisement
'It cannot be denied that the hasty approval and distribution of the Covid vaccine could also be a reason for these deaths, as several studies worldwide have recently indicated,' Siddaramaiah wrote. He also hit out at the BJP, accusing it of using the issue for political gains instead of reflecting on its own decisions. The statement comes amid rising panic in Hassan, where 22 people have died of cardiac arrest in the last 40 days, including four deaths reported on June 30 alone.Among the four were a 50-year-old woman who collapsed after feeling fatigued, a 58-year-old college lecturer who died while having tea, a 57-year-old D-group employee who passed away after being hospitalised for chest pain, and a 63-year-old man who collapsed after chest discomfort. What has alarmed authorities is that the deaths are not confined to the elderly. Of the 22 deaths, five were between 19 and 25 years old, and eight were between 25 and 45. The remaining victims were between 45 and 60, and some above 60.advertisementThe sharp rise in cases has led to an 8 per cent surge in patient footfall at Jayadeva Hospital in Bengaluru over the past two weeks, particularly from Hassan and surrounding districts. Doctors say many are coming in for precautionary check-ups amid growing concerns.According to the District Health and Family Welfare Department, Hassan has recorded 507 heart attack cases in the past two years, with 190 fatalities. However, this sudden cluster of deaths among younger people has triggered fresh alarm. The spate of deaths has also coincided with other cardiac-related fatalities reported in recent weeks, including the death of actor and model Shefali Jariwala, 42, who died of a heart attack on June 27. A 25-year-old man collapsed during a wedding ritual in Karnataka, a 28-year-old bodybuilder died while working out at a gym, a 29-year-old dentist died after running a marathon in Goa, and a 38-year-old gym trainer died of cardiac arrest.Siddaramaiah urged people not to ignore symptoms like chest pain or breathing difficulty and asked them to visit nearby health centres immediately. He said the government remains committed to protecting public health and has already implemented schemes like Hridaya Jyothi and Gruha Arogya to monitor cardiac health.- Ends

'Scientific evidence refutes that Covid vaccines are responsible for sudden deaths': Medical expert

Speaking to ANI, Dr Mohit Gupta, Professor of Cardiology, GB Pant Hospital, said that findings from a study conducted on 1,600 heart attack patients showed a protective benefit of the Covid-19 vaccines. NEW DELHI: Medical experts have rejected allegations that Covid-19 vaccines are responsible for a recent spike in heart attack-related deaths, following comments made by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah regarding over twenty such deaths in Hassan district. Speaking to ANI, Dr Mohit Gupta, Professor of Cardiology, GB Pant Hospital, said that findings from a study conducted on 1,600 heart attack patients showed a protective benefit of the Covid-19 vaccines. He said, "In our own study on 1,600 patients with heart attacks who had received the Covid vaccine and those who had not received it. We found that those who have received the Covid vaccine not only have lower chances of having a heart attack, all-cause mortality and sudden deaths, but also, following them for 30 days and 6 months, the chances of death of those people are significantly reduced." "The Covid-19 vaccine is harmless and also plays a protective role. This study is not only ours; ICMR has also validated this. Multiple hospitals have conducted big studies on this. A Korean study on around 2 lakh people replicated the same results. The US Covid Collaboration replicated similar results. In our study, we took both the Covid vaccines and similar results were shown for both the Covaxin and Covishield," he added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Refuting any linkage between cardiac deaths and Covid vaccines, Dr Gupta said that scientific evidence refutes that Covid vaccines are responsible for sudden deaths. The doctor stated, "This is a sudden hype. If we see practically too, then we have given this vaccine all over the country, so if that is the case, there will be clustering, multiple deaths will be reported from different parts of the country, which will be significantly increased, but in the last 5 years, nothing such has happened. Suddenly, if there are 4-5 cases and if we think that is because of the vaccine, then no. there are multiple reasons of sudden cardiac death. .. I think we really has to be think over... Scientific evidence refutes that Covid vaccines are responsible for sudden deaths..." Earlier, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, the Executive Chairperson of Biocon Limited echoed similar sentiments and refuted the allegation of the Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, in which he attributed more than twenty deaths due to heart attacks in the past one month in district of Hassan to Covid vaccines. She said that it was factually incorrect to suggest that Covid vaccines were hastily approved. Earlier in a post on X, CM Siddaramaiah shared that in the past month, in just one district of Hassan, more than twenty people died due to heart attacks. CM Siddaramaiah said, "In the past month alone, in just one district of Hassan, more than twenty people have died due to heart attacks. The government is taking this matter very seriously. To identify the exact cause of these series of deaths and to find solutions, a committee of experts has been formed under the leadership of Dr. Ravindranath, Director of Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, and they have been instructed to submit a study report within 10 days. " He further said that orders were given to this same committee back in February to conduct a thorough study on the reasons behind sudden deaths among young people in the state, and whether the Covid vaccines could have any adverse effects. In this regard, the process of examining and analysing heart patients is also underway. On July 2, a press release by the Union Health Ministry said that studies by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) have established that there is no direct link between Covid-19 vaccination and the reports of sudden deaths in the country.

‘No Clear Association': AIIMS Doctor Dismisses Link Between Covid Vaccines, Heart Attack Deaths

As many as 18 heart attack deaths were reported in Karnataka's Hassan district within a month Calling Covid-19 vaccines 'effective", an AIIMS Delhi doctor has dismissed the link between vaccination and sudden deaths due to heart attacks. Dr Karan Madan, Associate Professor, Department of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, AIIMS Delhi, said a study was done on sudden cardiac deaths to review the vaccines used so far, but no clear association was found with sudden cardiac deaths. Madan's remark came after Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah ordered a study on the reasons behind sudden deaths among young people in the state, and to see if the Covid-19 vaccines could have any adverse effects. As many as 18 heart attack deaths were reported in Karnataka's Hassan district within a month. 'COVID vaccines were effective vaccines and they played a crucial role in reducing the mortality. During the pandemic, vaccines are the only possible measure to save lives. Vaccines were used on a large number of people, and they provided a lot of benefits in preventing excess mortality. The benefits provided by the vaccines are immense. A study was done on sudden cardiac deaths to review the vaccines used so far, but no clear association was found with sudden cardiac deaths," Madan said.
