28,000 BPL families missing out on govt aid in Prayagraj
This information came to light after the district administration undertook a survey in the wake of the state government implementing its 'zero poverty' scheme, said district officials, adding they aimed at including the maximum number of people as beneficiaries of such programmes.
They said in Prayagraj district, the number of households with ration cards and Antyodaya ration cards, at present, stood at 9.34 lakh (benefiting 40 lakh people) and 86,590 (benefiting 2.61 lakh people), respectively.
The Zero Poverty Uttar Pradesh Campaign, also known as the Zero Poverty Program, is an initiative by the state government to eliminate extreme poverty in the state within a year. The programme, launched on October 2 last year, aims to identify and support extremely poor families through direct benefit transfers (DBTs) and livelihood support, with the goal being to increase the annual income of such families to a minimum of ₹1.25 lakh.
'The district panchayat Raj officer (DPRO) and district development officer (DDO) have conducted a survey at their level to identify eligible beneficiaries... All found eligible will get the benefits,' said district magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandar.
12k eligible for housing, 3.8k for pension
The district officials said they had 25,015 new applications for a government housing scheme alone and, out of them, 12,308 people were found to be eligible. Similarly, 3,870 people were found to be eligible for a government pension scheme and more than 2,000 for ration cards under Kisan Samman Nidhi initiative, they added.
They said for the survey teams of block development officers (BDOs) and lekhpals were deployed in development blocks. Overall, the exercise, which went on for about a month, saw the participation of about 400 officials.
'The survey work under the Zero Poverty scheme has been completed. The final list is being prepared. Every eligible person is being made to apply for welfare schemes,' said Harshika Singh, the chief development officer (CDO).

Haryana CM urges citizens to avail benefits of PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana
Kaithal (Haryana) [India], July 12 (ANI): Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said that under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, the government has set a target of installing 2 kW solar systems free of cost on the rooftops of 1 lakh Antyodaya families across the state. Once the target of 1 lakh installations is achieved, an additional 1 lakh families will be included in the next phase of the scheme, the CM said. So far, 26,000 families have availed the benefits of this scheme, including 1,707 families in Kaithal district alone, according to an official statement from the state government. The Chief Minister made these remarks while addressing the public in Peoda village, Kaithal district, where he had arrived to attend a program organized under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. On this occasion, the Chief Minister announced a grant of Rs 21 lakh for development works in the village. During his visit, CM Saini inspected a solar rooftop system installed at the residence of a scheme beneficiary and interacted with the family to understand the benefits they are receiving. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister highlighted that the scheme was launched in Haryana from Kaithal district, and he was pleased to personally witness its successful implementation. He said that the solar rooftop systems are not only promoting green energy but are also significantly reducing electricity bills for the people. He urged the people to come forward and take maximum advantage of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana to minimize their electricity expenses. The Chief Minister added that both the Central and State Governments are providing subsidies for installing solar systems for families with an annual income of up to Rs 1.80 lakh. This has helped thousands of households reduce their dependency on conventional electricity and gain relief from hefty power bills. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for conceptualizing and launching this people-centric scheme, and congratulated all beneficiaries who have already availed its benefits. Saini also highlighted the success of the Mhara Gaon Jagmag Gaon Yojana, under which more than 5,800 out of 6,500 villages in the state are now receiving 24-hour electricity supply. He encouraged residents of the remaining villages to come forward and enroll under this scheme. Saini said, 'prior to 2014, the government arbitrarily imposed surcharges on electricity bills, which led to significantly higher costs for consumers. Current government has provided substantial relief to consumers by waiving surcharges.' He appealed to the citizens to actively participate in the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. (ANI)

FTAs driving agri sector growth, 25 crore Soil Health Cards distributed: Piyush Goyal
New Delhi: With supportive policies, fiscal incentives, reduced tariff barriers and new market access through free trade agreements (FTAs) developed countries including Australia, the UAE, the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) nations, and the UK, the agriculture sector has witnessed significant progress, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has said. Addressing the 16th Agriculture Leadership Conclave here, the minister stated that 25 crore Soil Health Cards have been distributed to farmers to promote balanced fertiliser usage, and crop loans have been made accessible through the Kisan Credit Card initiative. Goyal said the government has consistently placed the agricultural sector at the forefront of its development agenda under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A large number of farmer families have benefitted from the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi scheme. Additionally, 1,400 mandis have been integrated with the e-NAM platform, enabling farmers across the country to access real-time information on crop prices and enhance market linkages. 'In the fertiliser sector, the government has provided substantial subsidies to ensure that farmers receive fertilisers at affordable prices. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, timely fertiliser supply to farmers was ensured,' the minister told the gathering. He noted that India's agricultural sector has demonstrated remarkable resilience—even amid global market turbulence and declining export trends. The efforts of Indian farmers have contributed to a stable agri-export performance, with agriculture, animal husbandry, and fisheries exports reaching Rs 4 lakh crore. The farming community has played a key role in building an Atmanirbhar Bharat and turning the 'Local Goes Global' vision into a reality. Goyal said India's farmers have been instrumental in the global success of products such as basmati and other varieties of rice, spices, fresh fruits and vegetables, horticulture and floriculture produce, as well as in the fisheries and poultry sectors. He emphasised the government's focus on promoting digital agriculture by introducing Artificial Intelligence, geospatial technology, weather prediction systems, vertical farming, and AI-enabled tools. These innovations, he noted, would support Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and cooperatives.

Irregularities alleged in allotment of shops to physically challenged persons at Valliyoor bus stand
Alleging irregularities in the allotment of shops meant for the physically challenged to others at newly built Valliyoor bus stand and hence seeking cancellation of the auction of shops, a petition was submitted to Collector R. Sukumar at the weekly grievance day meeting here on Monday. R. Shanmugasundaram of Valliyoor said the Valliyoor bus stand, which has been reconstructed on an outlay of ₹12 crore with 82 shops, has no space for the physically challenged even though the Tamil Nadu Government norm prescribes the allocation of 5% shops to the differently abled persons. 'Even though petitions had been submitted to the Chief Minister's Special Cell, the Chief Secretary and the Secretary, Department of Differently abled Welfare, the Valliyoor town panchayat administration adamantly refused to allot shops at Valliyoor bus stand to the differently abled.' 'Hence, a petition was submitted to the Special Circuit Court of the Commission for the Physically Challenged and the case came up for hearing at Tirunelveli District Collectorate when the Commission met here on June 30 last. The Commission found that 5% of the shops in Valliyoor bus stand had not been allotted to the differently abled. The Commission also found that the shops meant for the differently abled had been allotted to the relatives of the officials and the elected representatives of Valliyoor town panchayat, which had even created records saying that a cerebral palsy patient had indeed participated in the auction of the shops. The Commission also found this irregularity. Hence, the Collector should cancel the auction and take action against the officials involved in this irregularity,' said Mr. Shanmugasundaram. Registration The Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam submitted a petition appealing to the Centre to register the farmers who have not registered their land lease agreements. The petitioner farmers said the agriculturists, who had not formally registered their lands taken on lease from the Trusts, Mutts etc. could not register their names with the Union Government's ongoing digitization of details about farmers, their holdings etc. for availing the Central and State Government welfare schemes in future. Since the Centre's norms mandate the agriculturists to upload the registered documents of the lands on which they were cultivating crops, the farmers who had not registered their lease agreements are in a spicy situation. Hence they may not be eligible for availing the welfare assistance, Kisan Samman Nidhi of ₹6,000 and other subsidies meant for farmers. Moreover, the 'CIBIL score norm' should not be applied for farmers for giving them loans by cooperative societies, the petitioner farmers said. Patta transfer A group of villagers from Arunthathiyar Colony in Sankar Nagar Town Panchayat submitted a petition to the Collector seeking transfer of patta in their name for the land given to their parents 30 years ago. The petitioners said the Tamil Nadu Government gave them free house sites to 110 families in 1993 on which they had built their houses. As 30 years had lapsed, the pattas had to be changed in the names of the actual beneficiaries' children now. Even though petitions were being submitted with the Collector for the past 5 years, the revenue officials do not take any steps to change the pattas. 'We were told that our applications had been put on hold without citing any reason. Since the State government has now instructed the officials to give patta to the poor living on non-objectionable government poramboke land, the Collector should initiate steps for giving new pattas for our lands,' the petitioners said.
