Edinburgh Fringe Hot Tickets 2025: Here are all 17 Edinburgh Comedy Award winners returning this year

Scotsman13-06-2025
With a over 3,300 shows to choose from across 265 venues at this year's feast of culture, there's something to be said for opting for performers who have a winning record – and there's no bigger prize in British comedy than the Edinburgh Comedy Award.
Launched in 1981, the award is presented to the comedy show judged to have been the best at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and is recognised as the most prestigious comedy prize in the UK.
Formerly known as the Perrier Award , it is designed to promote acts that have yet to become household names, so comedians judged to have 'star status' are not eligible - for instance if they have a show on a major television channel or can regularly fill a 500-set venue.
The first winners were a talent-packed Cambridge Footlights featuring Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Tony Slattery and Emma Thompson, while other names catapulted to fame by the award over the years include Steve Coogan, Jenny Eclair, The League of Gentlemen, Dylan Moran, Al Murray, Tim Key, and Emmy -winning Baby Reindeer star Richard Gadd .
A Best Newcomer Award was added in 1992, followed by a Panel Prize in 2006 - for those who have made a particularly special contribution to the Fringe Festival.
Here are all 17 winners you can see in Edinburgh this year.
1 . Urooj Ashfaq
Urooj Ashfaq won the Edinburgh Comedy Award for best Newcomer in 2023 for her show 'Oh No!', about "her, her family, things that annoy her, and things she loves". This year she's back with a new hour entitled 'How To Be A Baddie' in which she promises to be a "bona fide bad girl and edgelord who at times mentions sexy things and topics..." 2 . Jordan Brookes
Officially the longest-reigning Edinburgh Comedy Award winner of all time (he won in 2019 before the global pandemic led to a three year break before the prize was awarded again), Jordan Brookes is back in Edinburgh with a work in progress show called 'Until The Wheels Come Off'. The only thing he guarantees is that he'll show up! See him at the Pleasance Courtyard from July 30-August 24. | Getty Images Photo Sales
3 . Lara Ricote
Another former winner bringing a work in progress show to Edinburgh is Lara Ricote, who took home the Best Newcomer trophy in 2022 with her show 'GRL/LATNX/DEF'. She didn't even have an idea for a show when she had to submit a description for the Fringe programme, so we know nothing about it. Find out what she's up to at the Monkey Barrel from August 11-17. | Getty Images Photo Sales
4 . Adam Riches
The Edinburgh Comedy Award shortlist was particularly strong in 2011, including Andrew Maxwell, Chris Ramsey, Josie Long, Nick Helm and future winner Sam Simmon. But it was the character and sketch comedy of Adam Riches, in 'Bring Me the Head of Adam Riches' that most impressed the judges. The hugely-entertaining performer last year made the switch to the theatre section with a critically-acclaimed show about tennis player Jimmy Connors. This year he's back to comedy with a typically singular slant, namely "medieval heartstab Sean Bean is going to read 15th century Middle English tome Le Morte d'Arthur out loud, for an hour. That's it." Discover if that really is 'it' at the Monkey Barrel from August 11-13. | Getty Images Photo Sales

Cam Norrie stunned by 'dating Emma Raducanu' question in Wimbledon press conference

Cam Norrie stunned by 'dating Emma Raducanu' question in Wimbledon press conference Cameron Norrie enjoyed another brilliant victory at Wimbledon, but after his vital triumph, he was left stunned by a question that he was asked about fellow British tennis star Emma Raducanu Cameron Norrie was astounded by the question about Emma Raducanu's current relationship status (Image: X/BenRothenberg ) Cameron Norrie was left taken aback when a reporter asked him if he is dating Emma Raducanu. He was posed with the audacious inquest after his victory over Mattia Bellucci, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, 6-3 secured him a spot in the round of 16. Norrie became the last British player standing in the men's singles competition at Wimbledon. ‌ As Jack Draper's unexpected loss to Marin Cillic left Norrie as the sole British representative, he may have anticipated questions during his post-match conference about handling the pressure of being Britain's last hope at SW19 or his prospects of winning the Grand Slam. ‌ However, he was caught off guard after being asked to confirm or deny whether he was currently dating Raducanu. The reporter started by complimenting Norrie, who was born in Johannesburg but has represented Great Britain since switching allegiance at 17. He said: "Congratulations again on your win. Apart from everyone here loving tennis, some of the gossip has been about who Emma Raducanu is dating. Can I ask if you're dating her? Can we get to the bottom of this, please?" Norrie, who was initially slouching, suddenly sat up straight, while his eyes widened in surprise as he processed the question. He responded with a simple: "Sorry?" Article continues below The journalist continued with his enquiry, asking: "We're trying to find out who is dating Emma Raducanu. It seems to be going round all the men's singles. I was just wondering if you are dating her, please?" Emma Raducanu was knocked out of Wimbledon by Aryna Sabalenka (Image: 2025 Getty Images ) Norrie, baffled by the question, responded: "I'm not, no. You can ask her, though. You can ask her. I don't know," before quickly moving on. ‌ Raducanu's Wimbledon journey concluded on Friday night as she exited the tournament following a defeat by World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka with scores of 7-6 (8-6), 6-4. Speculation has been rife in recent times about Raducanu's personal life, particularly regarding her romantic connections. The British tennis sensation, who shot to fame after winning the US Open in 2021, had been linked to fellow player Carlos Alcaraz, the reigning Wimbledon champion. However, she has quashed such gossip, clarifying that they are merely close friends. ‌ Emma Raducanu recently silenced romance rumours between her and Carlos Alcaraz (Image: 2025 Dave Benett ) Discussing her mixed doubles partner for next month's US Open, she remarked: "I've known him for years. Wimbledon 2021 was the first time I started getting to know him, and I had a good run there and then also again in the US Open in 2021. "We have a good relationship still. He's obviously overtaken me a lot, but it's nice that we have that from a while ago. I think for all of us, we really kind of value those connections that we had from when we were young. Article continues below "When you become a bit more known or a bit more successful, you just find yourself reverting back to people you knew from a young age because you're like, 'That's a real genuine connection.' Because it becomes very busy and you have a lot more friends but the ones that you've known for a long time mean a lot more to you."
