Six government colleges in Coimbatore district have intake limit of 3,967 seats for first year UG programmes
Including the eight additional courses sanctioned in shift II, the college will be offering 23 UG programmes in both shift 1 and 11, from 2025-26, Principal M.R. Yezhili said.
Since admission will entirely be based on score in Plus Two and as per Tamil Nadu Government communal reservation system, students are advised to choose more number of courses while applying, Prof. Yezhili aid.
The other government colleges are in Mettupalayam (intake of 480), Valparai (520), Puliakulam (410), Thondamuthur (410), and Pollachi (420).
The students admitted in government colleges are exempted from paying tuition fee. Those among the students in government and government-aided colleges who had undergone their schooling in government schools from levels VI to XII are entitled to monthly assistance of ₹1,000 (Under Pudhumai Pen scheme for girls and Tamil Pudhalvan scheme for boys).
Students get trained in skills for securing jobs, and are provided with other educational assistance schemes of the government, free bus pass, District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar said in a press release.
Students could download their application from the website: www.tngasa.in from May 7 to 27, the press release said.
Admission facilitation centres have also been established in the government colleges.
Application fee of ₹48 and registration fee of ₹2 could be remitted through debit card/credit card/net banking/ UPI.

Coimbtore district monitoring officer inspects ongoing projects in city
Coimbatore: Coimbatore district monitoring officer Kranthi Kumar Pati on Friday inspected several ongoing developmental projects in the city, including the western ring road and 24*7 water supply projects. Later, he held a review meeting officials from various departments, city corporation, and municipalities. During the meeting, Kranthi Kumar directed the officials to meet the deadlines of the ongoing projects and expedite works without compromising on quality. It was informed in the meeting that 137 Makkalai Thedi Mudhalvar camps were held across the corporation, municipalities, and town panchayats in the district. Of the 70,785 applications received, 58,203 were resolved. Similarly, on behalf of the social welfare and women empowerment department, as many as 17,678 female students and 20,889 male students are receiving ₹1,000 under the Pudhumai Penn and Tamil Pudhalvan scheme, respectively. Further, nearly 11.12 lakh beneficiaries are undertaking various medical assistance under the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Card.

Alert officials about dropouts, help reach 100% college enrolment, says Tirunalveli collector
TIRUNELVELI: In a bid to make Tirunelveli a no drop-out district and achieve a 100% college enrolment, collector Dr R Sukumar appealed to teachers and college faculties to alert the district administration if they come across any Class 12 dropouts. He also asked the authorities to keep a check on those students who have lost their parents. The collector was speaking at a special higher education guidance camp held at the Collectorate on Tuesday. "In the 2024-25 academic year, 14,847 students appeared for Class 12 public exam in the district, of which 13,285 cleared it. Among them, 1,035 students did not join any college. To support these students, the administration conducts this special guidance camp. The administration has already taken measures to prevent educational discontinuation. Schemes like Pudhumai Penn and Tamil Pudhalvan are being effectively implemented to promote higher education," Sukumar said. He added that as part of the initiative, two helpline numbers - 95003 24417 and 95005 24417 - are operational at the collectorate's control room to provide counselling with the help of trained teachers. "The administration is also providing financial and emotional support to the students who have lost one or both parents, encouraging them to pursue higher studies. We have asked headmasters of all schools to identify students and find out the reasons for not joining higher education. Suitable support is being arranged through the administration to ensure they are enrolled," he said. The collector also honoured two government school students, who secured admission to prestigious colleges, and seven others who cleared NEET by presenting them with shawls. He also distributed cheques worth Rs 3,500 each to five students for their college fees from his discretionary fund. The event was attended by Chief Educational Officer M Sivakumar, students and parents.

Protect saplings to benefit future generations
Rajamahendravaram: As part of World Environment Day celebrations, a major initiative to plant 4 lakh saplings across the district has been launched, district collector P Prasanthi announced on Thursday. She called on everyone to protect these saplings for the benefit of future generations. The main event was held at the Government Arts College campus in Rajahmundry under the aegis of the Forest Department, where the district collector participated as the chief guest. Chief Conservator of Forests BNN Murthy and other senior officials were also present. Speaking on the occasion, collector Prasanthi said the critical impact of climate change, stating that even a two-degree rise in global temperatures could severely disrupt human life. ' The saplings we plant today will grow into mighty trees in 20 years and benefit future generations,' she said. She also urged the public to reduce plastic usage, citing its harmful effects on the environment. MLA Adireddy Srinivas, addressing the gathering, said the coalition government has set a goal of planting one crore saplings across the state to enhance green cover and fight climate change. Municipal Commissioner Ketan Garg warned about the severe environmental damage caused by single-use plastics. He informed that five special enforcement teams consisting entirely of women have been deployed to inspect various warehouses and localities in the city. These teams will seize 10,000 metric tonnes of single-use plastic, he added. Chief Conservator of Forests BNN Murthy noted that the increasing use of plastic is causing drastic changes in the environment. He said that microplastics are entering the human bloodstream through widespread plastic consumption. DFO Srinivas, District School Education Officer K Vasudeva Rao, District Agriculture Officer S Madhava Rao, and District Tribal Welfare Officer KN Jyothi participated in this meeting.
