Scotland's top 'lucky landmarks' named and both are in one city
Scotland's top "lucky landmarks" have been named in a new study, with both sites located in Edinburgh.
For hundreds of years, people have sought to boost their fortunes by visiting monuments believed to bring good luck. Whether tossing coins into fountains or touching centuries-old statues, some destinations are believed to be particularly lucky.
SuomiCasino have shared a list of the top five lucky landmarks in Scotland and Ireland. The experts analysed the popularity of the landmarks by examining data from Instagram, TikTok, and Google search trends.
Edinburgh is the only city in the top five to feature two lucky landmarks. Greyfriars Bobby and the David Hume Statue are both named on the list.
Greyfriars Bobby placed at number three on SuomiCasino's roundup. It is a fountain that sits at the corner of Edinburgh's Candlemaker Row and George IV Bridge.
According to the experts, the monument has 39,200 Instagram posts and more than 1,100 TikTok mentions. The statue was also revealed to have a monthly Google search volume of 4,400.
The Greyfriars Bobby memorial is dedicated to the dog of the same name, who lived between 1855 and 1872. Bobby is famous for spending 14 years guarding the grave of his owner at Greyfriars Kirkyard until his death.
The granite fountain, which is surmounted by a bronze life-size statue of Greyfriars Bobby, was erected in 1873. The bittersweet tale of loyalty has made it a popular tourist attraction over the years.
It has become customary for those who visit Greyfriars Bobby to rub his nose for good luck. Over the years, this has caused the nose of the statue to turn shiny.
The Greyfriars Bobby statue has earned positive reviews from tourists and visitors. On Google, the monument has an overall rating of 4.7 out of five based on 1,946 reviews.
One visitor shared: "Bobby's story is beautiful and they say that stroking his nose brings good luck, so be sure to do this when you visit him."
A second wrote: "I touched the nose for good luck, then won £1000 on Premium Bonds in April. Thanks Bobby!"
Elsewhere, the David Hume Statue followed behind at number four on SuomiCasino's roundup. The statue is located at the top of Edinburgh's Royal Mile.
According to the experts, the statue has 260 Instagram posts. It was also found to be the subject of 3,600 monthly searches on Google.
The David Hume statue is dedicated to the Edinburgh-born 18th century philosopher, historian, and economist. It attracts visitors who touch its toe for wisdom and fortune.
Elsewhere, coming in at number one on the list of the top lucky spots in Scotland and Ireland is The Blarney Stone in Cork. The centuries-old stone, which is said to grant the 'gift of eloquence' to anyone who kisses it, features in 76,900 Instagram posts and is the subject of 110,000 monthly Google searches.

‘We've holidayed with Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce – she showed her true colours with us'
Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift were joined by two well-known sports broadcasters Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson on a recent holiday, and the pair have revealed what it's like to vacation with them NFL reporters Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson have lifted the lid on their holiday escapades with Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. The pop icon and Kansas City Chiefs tight-end, both 35, have dominated headlines ever since they went public with their romance in September 2023. Despite Swift's presence at the Chiefs' Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in February – where she faced boos from the crowd – and Kelce's surprise appearance on stage during Swift's blockbuster Era's Tour in London, the pair have kept quiet about their high-profile relationship lately. However, Andrews and Thompson couldn't resist telling all on their podcast 'Calm Down with Erin and Charissa', after Kelce shared snaps on Instagram featuring the two broadcasters with himself and Swift. "I will say this: she's everything that I'd ever hoped and dreamed that she could've been and more," Thompson said about Swift. "For those of you who have listened to this podcast for the five years that we have had it, you'll know our great affinity for Taylor, pre-Travis. We advocated for her to give him a chance – that clearly worked out! They are so happy and adorable." In a snapshot shared by the three-time Super Bowl champion, Andrews and Thompson were seen enjoying a snowy getaway with their other halves, alongside Kelce and the 'Anti-Hero' hit-maker. Thompson couldn't help but sing praises for the 'Love Story' songstress, reports OK! "That's one of my favourite photos from the trip that we all took together. And I'll echo it! She's [Swift] a 20 out of 20. She is so much fun," Thompson said. Delving into the details of how their group holiday came to be, she said: "When the opportunity came about for all of us to spend time together and go on vacation, we were elated to have time with them. But also, in general, to see what she was all about." One picture posted by Kelce showed him and Swift laughing in the snow, while another showed the couple on an ice rink. Thompson then revealed they were keeping their cards close to the chest on what went down on the trip in a bid to keep a veil of privacy in-place for Swift and Kelce. "Their lives are so public so it was very important for Erin and I not to say anything," she added. "It's important for us to let them dictate the narrative on things they do in their personal life. "I'm not going to elaborate too much on it other than saying that she is a dream and I adore her and I'm so happy that they make each other happy." Andrews echoed the sentiment, emphasising their commitment to safeguarding their friends' privacy: "We're so protective of them and their privacy and what they deserve, so that's why we never said anything or planned on saying anything. "We love them, we are happy for them and we are happy to report back that, yes, the long awaited meeting did happen and it exceeded expectations because she is as advertised and a whole lot more." Swift is currently recharging after an astonishing tour that saw the 35-year-old traverse the globe with her three-hour, hit-powered show that ran from March 2023 to December 2024. Kelce, meanwhile, took some time to regroup after his Chiefs team were humiliated in Super Bowl LIX by a Jalen Hurts-inspired Eagles. He initially claimed he would think about his future but later revealed he is to stay on for one more NFL season as tight-end for the Chiefs, with the star previously saying he would play "until the wheels fall off", with the new season getting underway in September.

EasyJet traveller feels sick after spotting what couple are doing on budget flight
A 27-year-old woman travelling home from Tenerife got the shock of her life after watching a couple engaging in a disgusting and disturbing act onboard the budget airline A holidaymaker was left horrified after noticing what a couple were doing on a budget flight. Erin Butcher was flying home from a seven-day family holiday in Tenerife when she caught a man 'picking dirt from under his partner's toenails' during an easyJet flight Erin first noticed a woman's bare feet propped up on a tray table during the flight. The 27-year-old was then left feeling 'disgusted' when the man appeared to pick at her French pedicure toenails before 'flicking bits of dirt' around. She claims the couple did this for 20 minutes, while other passengers laughed nervously in confusion. The fashion merchandiser shared footage of the stomach-churning moment with the caption 'Nothing beats an easyJet flight. Hope no one ate off this tray table on the next flight'. The clip was uploaded on TikTok on July 31st and has since gone viral, racking up more than 336,200 views. Sickened, Erin says it was 'unhygienic' and made for a 'depressing' end to her holiday. Erin, from Southwark, South East London, said: "I felt so disgusted and I couldn't believe it. "The partner was sprawled across the seats with her feet on the tray table, which was shocking enough. "Her partner then started picking at her toenails and flicking little bits [of dirt] everywhere. It was disgusting." She added: "I was absolutely horrified. I was with my family and none of us could actually believe what was happening. "Even to do that in the privacy of your own home is questionable but to put them on a tray table where people are eating off all day. "I was relieved I wasn't sitting next to them. I had the perfect view from my aisle seat which is horrifying. I couldn't really take my eyes off even though I wanted to. "Her feet were on that table the majority of the four-and-a-half-hour flight. She was really making herself at home. It's so unhygienic. "Other passengers around us had noticed as well. Everyone was laughing and it was quite unbelievable. "As if things aren't depressing enough when your week in the sun has just ended and you're faced with toe picking the whole way home." Many users took to the comments to express their disgust. One user wrote: "Totally gross." While someone else commented: "That's disgusting anywhere." EasyJet has been approached for a comment. It comes after another plane passenger recently blasted a mum for changing her baby's dirty nappy on a tray table rather than taking the infant to the bathroom. She said on Reddit: "I'm a really nauseous flyer, so I took a Dramamine ahead of time and did my best to get some sleep during the flight. "This didn't happen because of the baby's crying, but oh well, I know flights are scary and stressful for infants and there was nothing anyone could do about that. "What got to me was the couple changing their baby's extremely stinky number two diaper right in the middle of their seats, using the mum's food tray as a changing table. "We were at the back of the plane right by the bathrooms, which I confirmed had baby changing tables when I had to go back there to throw up after the smell hit me." Much to her delight, the pilot ended up speaking out against this behaviour - but sadly it was too late to stop the smell from making its way around the cabin.
