Neighbours set to turn up the heat with first-ever gay love triangle

Daily Mail19-06-2025
As Neighbours faces its impending cancellation, the iconic soap opera isn't holding back, introducing its first-ever gay love triangle that promises to shake things up.
The storyline sees Aaron (Matt Wilson), who is still reeling from the loss of his husband last year, entangled in a romantic web involving two exes: Rhett (Liam Maguire) and Colton (Jakob Ambrose).
The trio's paths collided unexpectedly at a yoga class this week, igniting a competition for Aaron's affection.
In a shock move, Aaron boldly decided to date both simultaneously, setting the stage for expected chaos.
Actor Liam Maguire has shared his excitement about being involved in such a compelling storyline.

'Reading the scripts I kept finding myself laughing and that felt like the most progressive thing about the storyline,' he told Yahoo Lifestyle.
'It's so confidently queer while being able to be funny and playful, because all the characters are entirely comfortable with who they are.'
'It definitely was something I recognised reading these scripts... that we were going to be given the chance to portray queer characters in a really fun, messy, playful, honest way,' Jakob Ambrose added.
'I think it's important all our colours are seen on screen - the happy family, but also the messiness it sometimes takes to get there. Working with Liam and competing in a way has been the best way to be forced to step it up.'
Fans have taken to social media to praise the long-running soap opera for creating such an engaging story.
'Best scene in Neighbours I've ever watched. Absolutely hilarious, hats off to the writers,' one person wrote.
'The best thing on Neighbours for a long time,' a second added.
It comes after the long-running soap opera was abruptly axed in February, after Amazon did not renew their contract with production company Fremantle Australia.
In response to the shock announcement, an Amazon spokesperson told MailOnline: 'Neighbours has brought so much joy over the last 40 years to its fanbase globally.
'Forty years is an incredible milestone and we are proud that Amazon MGM Studios was able to have a small part of bringing further episodes to Freevee and Prime Video customers over the last two years.'
In a heartwarming post, the crew assured fans that new episodes from the 40th anniversary season would continue to be broadcast on Prime Video and Ten, with 'all the big soapie twists and turns that our viewers love.'
The show's Executive Producer Jason Herbison went on to celebrate the many years of Neighbours and the success it had experienced since its inception.
'Audiences all around the world have loved Neighbours for four decades. We are proud of the success over the last two years including often appearing as one of the Top 10 titles in the UK and the show's first ever Daytime Emmy nomination,' he said.
'As this chapter closes, we appreciate and thank Amazon MGM Studios for all that they have done for Neighbours – bringing this iconic and much-loved series to new audiences globally.'
He ended the post, saying: 'We value how much the fans love Neighbours and we believe there are more stories of the residents of Ramsay Street to tell in the future.'
The final ever episodes will air at the end of 2025 with fans forced to say goodbye to Ramsay Street for a second time, after first being axed in February 2022.

Lleyton Hewitt's warning to daughter Mia's boyfriend amid young couple's rock'n'roll lifestyle as 'Beckham-style feud is brewing behind the scenes'

Lleyton Hewitt reportedly has concerns about the fast and loose lifestyle his eldest daughter Mia leads with her rock'n'roll boyfriend, Vanda Erich. The 19-year-old musician and her Liquid Zoo frontman partner were first romantically linked in May last year when they were seen going for lunch in Surry Hills. They are now often seen living wild and free, with sources claiming tennis champion Lleyton, 44, fears Mia is being led astray, according to Woman's Day. 'Lleyton is just like any dad out there and is super protective, especially of his girls. He is very much serving up the tough dad act right now,' an insider said. 'He wants Mia to be happy but he thinks she's still too young to be getting into any kind of serious relationship.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The publication went on to claim there are signs a 'Beckham-style feud is brewing behind the scenes'. The former Wimbledon star was reportedly unimpressed with images that emerged last year of Mia and Vanda smoking and acting up for cameras. He is said to want Mia to experiment and enjoy life, but not at the cost of a healthy lifestyle and quality time with the family. 'Living her dreams is important but so is maintaining her relationship with her family,' the source said. Notably, Mia is the only member of the Hewitt family who follows Vanda on social media. Not even her younger brother Cruz can be found in Vanda's follow list, despite the singer following the 16-year-old's Instagram account. Mia and Vanda have frequently been spotted spending time together at the beach and with their friends. In September last year, the rising star, often dubbed a 'nepo baby', performed her first gig with her band Father's Favourite. They are now often seen living wild and free, with sources claiming tennis champion Lleyton fears Mia is being led astray. Pictured with his wife Bec Hewitt Mia, the daughter of Lleyton and his Home and Away star wife Bec, looked stylish in a tiny white skirt and black top as she wowed the crowd at a brewery in Sydney. Her band's Instagram page describes the group as a 'bohemian folk rock duo'. Mia was earlier seen during an outing with a group of friends in Sydney's Rose Bay as they stepped out at Rose Bay House for a meal. The Father's Favourite folk singer shocked onlookers as she was seen smoking during the outing. Her rock star boyfriend Vanda, the lead singer of the band Liquid Zoo, also acted up for the cameras as he was seen wearing shades and swearing while the group laughed. The duo were also joined by one of Vanda's Liquid Zoo bandmates as they all got out of Mia's car together and headed for a bite to eat. Mia's parents, Lleyton and Bec, met on the tennis court for a charity game at the Starlight Cup back in 1999. The couple didn't reconnect until a few years later and finally met up in person in 2005, before getting engaged after a whirlwind romance that lasted six weeks. Grand Slam champion Lleyton married actress Bec 18 years ago in a romantic ceremony at the Sydney Opera House. As well as singer Mia, they also share another daughter, Ava, 14, and son Cruz.

Australian royal prank DJs claim their bosses MADE them phone the Princess of Wales's hospital and impersonate the late Queen before nurse's suicide

The Australian 'shock jock' behind a prank call to the hospital where the Duchess of Cambridge was being treated, which led to the suicide of a nurse, claims he was pressurized into making the call by bosses. Michael Christian and 2Day FM radio co-host Mel Greig made headlines around the world on December 4, 2012 when they duped staff at King Edward VII's Hospital in London, The Telegraph reported. The duo convinved nurse Jacintha Saldanha that they were the late Queen and the then-Prince Charles checking in on the Princess of Wales, who at the time was being treated for severe morning sickness while pregnant with Prince George. Falling for their deception, Ms Saldanha disclosed some of the Princess' private medical information before transferring the call through to the ward. Humiliated by the telephone prank, the nurse - a mother to two children - later took her own life. In one of three apparent suicide notes, Ms Saldanha wrote a short letter in which she expressed her deep anger at the Australian radio presenters and blamed them for her tragic death. The nurse's death led to a huge backlash against the show and brodcaster, with its two presenters forced into hiding after receiving death threats. In a lawsuit against the station's broadcaster, Southern Cross Austereo (SCA), Mr Christian alleges that he was ordered to make the call by the production team only days after starting in the role. He said that the hoax call breached the Australian Communications and Media Authority code of practice and he should never have been asked to do it. Mr Christian also said that he was given insufficient support in the wake of Ms Saldanha's suicide. He claims that the company promised to provide support in the event that any of the antics on the show overstepped the boundaries. Mr Christian, who lost his job in February, accuses the organisation of turning him and Ms Greig into 'convenient fall guys and scapegoats'. Mr Christian's lawyers wrote: 'SCA did not immediately take public accountability for the incident, but rather allowed Mr Christian and Ms Greig to be left exposed to relentless public vitriol, harassment and abuse, including death threats. 'The radio presenters were left by SCA as the convenient fall guys and scapegoats for SCA management decisions and non-compliance.' Mr Christian claims that the incident severely damaged his reputation and earnings potential. He also claims that he was discouraged from pursing legal action against SCA at the time because they promised that they would help him rebuilding his reputation and career. Among Mr Christian's greivences are that SCA filed to provide sufficient mental health support or start a PR campaign to clear his name. He also claims that he was not offered promotions or pay rises to reward his loyalty for sticking with the company, and instead was slowly phased-out. 'When we thought about making a call it was going to go for 30 seconds, we were going to be hung up on, and that was it. As innocent as that,' Mr Christian told Channel Nine's A Current Affair programme less than a week after the prank broke. Describing him and his co-host as 'shattered, gutted, heartbroken', he said 'no-one could've imagined this to happen.' 'The accents were terrible. You know it was designed to be stupid. We were never meant to get that far from the little corgis barking in the background - we obviously wanted it to be a joke,' Ms Greig added. 'There's nothing that can make me feel worse than what I feel right now. And for what I feel for the family. We're so sorry that this has happened to them.' Speaking in 2014, Ms Greig revealed that her mother had received death threats, while the 2DayFM presenter herself battled depression. 'I felt like a failure as a human being,' Ms Greig said in a tearful interview with Channel Seven's Sunday Night. 'I am ashamed of myself. I should have tried harder to not let that prank call air.' At the time of Ms Saldanha's death, the Prince and Princess of Wales said they were 'deeply saddened' by her passing. Hollyoaks has revealed the dramatic moment that Tom Cunningham returned to the Channel 4 soap. The iconic character, portrayed by Ellis Hollins, 25, departed the soap in September last year, having played the role of Tom since 2003. Tom and sister Cindy Cunningham had fled the village after discovering her partner Dave Williams (Dominic Power) was none other than mysterious gangster Blue. And in a first look at Tuesdays episode, fans got a glimpse of Tom's return to the show after a once year absence - however, there's an unexpected twist as he's currently behind bars. In the clip, Tom is seen in prison alongside fellow inmate Rex Gallagher (Jonny Labey), who had received a visit from Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson). Ste and Rex are seen discussing Clare Devine (Gemma Bissix), but little do they know, Tom is in earshot, and his interest is piqued when he hears the name of his former arch nemesis. Tom consequently gets in touch with Donny Clarke (Louis Emerick), offering up information on Clare. However, Tom later finds himself in danger after Rex is pressured by Clare to murder Tom in prison. In a tense scene in the prison yard, Tom appears isolated and vulnerable, leaving ex with an opportunity to strike. But it remains to be seen whether Rex will succeed or if Tom manages to escape his clutches. Clare made a shock return from the dead last month and as longtime fans will know, she has a long and dark history with Tom. The twisted character tormented Tom as a child and attempted to con his big brother and guardian, Max Cunningham. Viewers will just have to wait and see whether the two characters will finally come face-to-face.
