New data reveals what's shaping wellness trends today, from advancements in NAD+ and peptides for sport performance to the explosion of on-the-go protein and new supplement delivery formats
SECAUCUS, N.J., June 9, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The Vitamin Shoppe®, a national omni-channel specialty retailer of nutritional products, today unveiled its Health & Wellness Trend Report 2025, an in-depth, data-driven look at the evolving priorities, preferences, and behaviors shaping the wellness industry.
Now in its fourth year, the report combines proprietary sales and search insights from over 635 retail locations and vitaminshoppe.com; industry-wide data from SPINS; and analysis from a newly commissioned survey of 2,000 U.S. adults, conducted by leading market research firm Talker Research.
The report reveals a modern wellness consumer who is highly engaged, informed, and innovation-driven:
69% of Americans take dietary supplements to support personal health goals, which include improving energy (49%), immunity (38%), cognitive function (37%), and bone health (35%).
66% are actively trying to consume more protein, driving growth in new on-the-go formats that prioritize taste and convenience.
35% already use AI to manage or learn about their health, for activities such as planning meals, researching health conditions, and learning about supplement routines. Another 27% are considering doing so.
While social media is often credited for driving wellness trends, traditional information sources still hold significant sway: 15% cite TikTok as a source of discovery, but 30% cite friends, 29% news media, and 21% ads.
Genuine trust still lies with credentialed experts—59% of respondents rate doctors as "very trustworthy," compared to only 11% for influencers.
"At The Vitamin Shoppe, we're here to support every customer on their journey of lifelong wellness, whether they're just starting out or optimizing an established routine," said Sharon Leite, CEO of The Vitamin Shoppe. "Our Health & Wellness Trend Report 2025 offers a clear look at the products, ingredients, and innovations shaping how people care for their health today. This annual report is both a guide for consumers navigating a fast-changing wellness landscape and a strategic resource for brands seeking to stay aligned with evolving consumer attitudes and behaviors."
According to the report's findings, the Top Five Health & Wellness Trends in 2025 are:
Protein Evolves into Lifestyle NutritionOnce limited mostly to powders in shaker cups, supplemental protein is now a core wellness staple in ready-to-drink beverages, bars, and snacks. At The Vitamin Shoppe, sales of RTD protein drinks rose 20% year-to-date and protein bars and snacks jumped 28%, even as protein powders pulled back 12%. Clear protein drinks (refreshing, rather than creamy), better-for-you snacks, and indulgent macro-balanced bars—like those from Barebells (up 97% YTD) and David (now the #2 bar out of 30 brands at The Vitamin Shoppe)—are helping to drive this shift.
NAD+ Goes Mainstream as a Longevity EssentialFueled by social media, marketing buzz, and research breakthroughs, NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) has become one of the biggest longevity and cellular health trends of the past year. Searches for NAD+ on vitaminshoppe.com have skyrocketed 500% this year, while the NAD+ category drove 90% of growth in the fast-expanding cellular health category (which nearly doubled in Q1). The reason? Research shows that NAD+ supplementation can improve overall cellular function, enhancing vitality and healthspan, especially in older people experiencing drops in their natural NAD+ levels.
Peptides Redefine Muscle Health and RecoveryUsually associated with beauty and skincare, peptides are emerging as the next big thing in sports nutrition, due to the unique ways they support performance, recovery, and overall muscle health. Searches for peptides are up 550% on vitaminshoppe.com this year, fueled by innovations like PeptiStrong®—a patented, plant-based peptide complex developed using AI technology—used in top-performing launches such as AN Performance Creatine + Peptide and Force Factor Anabolic Muscle Builder. Peptides are even addressing muscle preservation for GLP-1 medication users, as in formulas from Whole Health Rx™, illustrating their on-trend, functional potential.
Supplement Delivery Formats Get a Modern MakeoverConvenience and experience are driving the rise of liquids, gummies, chews, beadlets, and topicals as alternatives to traditional pills and powders. As consumers look for more enjoyable, personalized ways to consume supplements, liquid vitamins are up 50% this year at The Vitamin Shoppe, with MaryRuth's leading the charge (+90% YTD). Searches for "creatine gummies" have surged 1,300% this year, and new delivery systems like creatine beadlets from BodyTech Elite, transdermal magnesium sprays, and ashwagandha honey sticks are expanding the definition of supplementation.
Shilajit Gets a Second Life with a New Generation of Wellness SeekersOnce a niche Ayurvedic remedy, shilajit is trending hard, with Q1 sales up 40% and searches up 52% YTD at The Vitamin Shoppe. The resin-like adaptogen, often sourced in the Himalayas, is rich in fulvic acid and over 80 essential minerals, winning a new generation of wellness seekers enjoying benefits across multiple use cases, such as energy, hormonal health, bone support, and cognition. Marketing-savvy brands like Better Alt and Cymbiotica are innovating beyond shilajit's old-school resin format with easy-to-use capsules, gummies, and honey sticks.
"These five top trends outlined in our Health & Wellness Trend Report 2025 reflect a consumer focused on optimizing both daily performance and longer-term healthspan," said Muriel Gonzalez, President of The Vitamin Shoppe. "From the innovation of advanced compounds like peptides and NAD+, to the rising demand for convenient, on-the-go protein formats and enjoyable supplement delivery systems, we're seeing an ongoing shift toward personalized wellness choices that are rooted in scientific efficacy and modern lifestyle integration."

Haze from Colorado, Utah wildfires threatens air quality in Northern Colorado

Fires currently burning in western Colorado, Utah and beyond have caused the air quality in Colorado's Front Range to diminish. Health experts in Larimer County confirmed their data shows air quality has dipped in the last two days in Northern Colorado. "Right now, we are seeing quite a bit of haze and smoke, at least on the foothills," said Tom Gonzales, Larimer County's public health director. "We are seeing a worsening in air quality, slowly increasing to a moderate level." Gonzales encouraged residents in the region to consider shifting their activities to an indoor setting, citing the increase in ozone and particulates in the air. "We encourage people to look before they go out and enjoy the outdoors," Gonzales said. "The blue skies, everything looked clear, so today seemed fine," said Missy Vansickle, a Fort Collins resident who elected to go on a bike ride Tuesday. Vansickle and Meghann Schaffer recently purchased new e-bikes. "We are out riding, enjoying the sunshine and enjoying the outdoors and the heat," Vansickle said. The duo noted that they were aware of the thick plume of smoke that covered much of Northern Colorado Monday evening. "It was just so dark in the sky. As the sun set, it was just this orange glow, which just seemed unhealthy," Schaffer said. "I was concerned about it yesterday. But when we decided to come out and bike ride this morning, we checked and it looked OK. So we were like, 'We are probably safe.'" While the air quality may have been slightly better Tuesday compared to Monday, Gonzales still warned that the air quality might be more dangerous for some people. He said those who are young, elderly, or women who are pregnant should consider staying indoors during the poor air quality. He suggested people sleep with their windows shut and air conditioners on while the air quality takes a hit, noting the county has resources on the health department page that can better assist the community with knowing when to stay inside. Gonzales admitted he know Fort Collins and Northern Colorado residents are prone to getting outdoors no matter what. So he suggested residents consider doing their outdoor activities either in the early morning or late evening, citing a decrease in particulates in the air during those hours. "Limit outdoor activity, stay indoors. If you have an air purifier, great. I would close the windows. At the same time, we are having high heat with forecasts of nearly 100 through Friday," Gonzales said. "So that is a compounding concern. If people's houses are too warm, we are encouraging them to find colder spaces, public spaces such as the library, shopping center."

Director Francis Ford Coppola doing 'fine' after cardiac procedure in Rome

By Steve Gorman LOS ANGELES (Reuters) -Francis Ford Coppola, the acclaimed American director of "The Godfather" movies and "Apocalypse Now," underwent a non-emergency cardiac procedure in a Rome hospital and is doing fine, he and a U.S.-based representative said on Tuesday. "Mr. Coppola went in for a scheduled update procedure" performed by renowned Italian-born cardiologist Dr. Andrea Natale "and is resting nicely," the representative said in response to Italian media reports that the director was hospitalised. "All is well." Coppola, 86, has been a patient of Natale for more than 30 years, the representative said. The filmmaker was admitted on Tuesday to the Policlinico Tor Vergata, a public hospital in the Italian capital, news agency ANSA reported. The U.S.-based representative declined to give any details about the nature of Coppola's medical procedure, but said: "There was not an emergency. He went to the hospital in a car. He had a scheduled appointment." Coppola posted a photograph of himself on Instagram appearing relaxed and smiling with a message reassuring fans, "I am well." "Da Dada (what my kids call me) is fine, taking an opportunity while in Rome to do the update of my 30-year-old afib procedure with its inventor, a great Italian doctor - Dr. Andrea Natale," it said. He did not elaborate further. The term "a-fib" in medical parlance is short for atrial fibrillation, a type of abnormal heart rhythm. Natale, currently the executive director of the Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute, is an electrophysiology specialist who pioneered several treatments and devices for the treatment of such disorders. Coppola was in Italy to promote his latest movie, the science-fiction epic "Megalopolis," a $120 million self-funded production about a visionary architect's quest to transform a futuristic version of New York City called New Rome into a utopian community. The film, which has drawn mixed reviews and struggled at the box office following its 2024 debut at the Cannes Film Festival, was reported to have received a special screening at the Magna Graecia Film Festival in Catanzaro, Italy. The Italian-American director has won five Academy Awards, four of them for his work on the first two films in "The Godfather" trilogy, widely considered by cinema buffs to rank among the greatest movies of all time. This change to your skin can be a sign you have one of the deadliest cancers

It's a lot to digest. About 67,400 Americans will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year, and nearly 52,000 will die from it, according to American Cancer Society estimates. The highly aggressive disease develops from abnormal cell growth within the pancreas, a vital organ that plays a crucial role in digestion and blood sugar regulation. It's one of the deadliest cancers — only 13% of pancreatic cancer patients live five years after diagnosis — because early detection is so difficult. 'The pancreas is hidden deep in the abdomen, and early symptoms, such as back pain, fatigue, weight loss or digestive discomfort, are vague and often mistaken for other, less serious conditions,' Dr. Diane Simeone, director of Moores Cancer Center at UC San Diego Health, told The Post. Jaundice — the yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes — is a sign of pancreatic cancer that's more distinctive. Simeone highlights why many patients get this sneaky symptom — and why screening is so important. What is jaundice? Jaundice occurs when the blood has excess bilirubin, a yellowish substance that's produced when the body breaks down old red blood cells. The liver is most responsible for eliminating bilirubin. A tumor blocking the bile ducts or affecting the liver's function can prevent the proper processing of bilirubin, causing the pigment to accumulate. The yellowing of the whites of the eyes is often the first noticeable sign — the skin and the inside of the mouth may turn yellow as well. Jaundice can also cause dark urine, pale poop and sometimes itchy skin and stomach pain. 'The excess bilirubin is excreted through the kidneys, darkening the urine and preventing it from reaching the intestines, which leads to pale stools,' Simeone explained. 'It can also cause itching because the bile acids that are not being excreted normally accumulate in the skin and stimulate nerve endings.' Stomach pain can be felt from a tumor obstructing the bile duct. Jaundice can signal pancreatic cancer — and what else? Elevated levels of bilirubin often indicate liver troubles. Hepatitis (inflammation of the liver), cirrhosis (scarring of the liver) and liver cancer can be culprits. Other suspects include gallstones in the bile duct, certain blood disorders, viral or bacterial infections, some medications and genetic conditions. Newborns can experience jaundice because their liver isn't fully developed. With pancreatic cancer, jaundice is a common symptom when the tumor is in the head of the pancreas, blocking the common bile duct. How is pancreatic cancer diagnosed? Pancreatic cancer screening is generally recommended for those with a family history of the disease, genetic mutations linked to a higher risk and pancreatic conditions like chronic pancreatitis. MRIs, CT scans and endoscopic ultrasounds visualize the pancreas and surrounding areas to see if there's a tumor. If one is detected, a tissue or cell sample is taken to determine if it's cancerous and, if so, the stage of the cancer. 'There are certain blood tests that help in the diagnosis, such as liver function tests, complete blood counts and tumor markers like CA 19-9,' Simeone said, referring to Cancer Antigen 19-9, a protein that can be released by pancreatic cancer cells into the bloodstream. Simeone is the founding director of the Pancreatic Cancer Early Detection Consortium, known as PRECEDE, which is studying over 9,500 high-risk individuals to improve early detection of pancreatic cancer. The goal is to increase the five-year survival rate from 13% to 50% through collaborative research, standardization of screening protocols and development of early detection tools. 'The mission of PRECEDE is to help identify an early detection biomarker, such as a blood test that can discover the cancer at the earliest possible stage.' How is pancreatic cancer treated? Depending on when the cancer is caught, treatment options may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy and palliative care. 'Surgical resection [to remove the tumor] is typically only an effective option before the cancer has spread,' Simeone said. 'This is precisely why early detection is so important and PRECEDE's primary mission and focus.' Solve the daily Crossword
