In an interview with Firstpost, the actor shared her take on maintaining a work-life balance in the industry and what needs to change. (Also read: Sara Ali Khan says mom Amrita Singh reading trolls' comments about her is hurtful: 'If I could block her social media') Konkona Sen Sharma said society 'expects' working mothers to participate to the demands of work in every way.(AFP) During the interview, Konkona said, 'I genuinely want to say that in today's day and age, there is a certain motherhood penalty in any industry, which happens. It's called the fatherhood premium and the motherhood penalty. Because what happens is that fathers, as they have children and they become more and more senior, they earn more and more. But for women with every child, there is a financial setback because you're not able to kind of participate in the way society expects you to or for that matter what the office work demands.' She went on to add, 'Now what's going to happen ultimately is that women are not incentivized to have children at all because it's becoming more and more difficult. You know, to participate in the work life, and to be a good mother at the same time is becoming more and more difficult. So, I feel that this is something that eventually the governments will have to kind of change policies for working mothers. Otherwise it's not going to happen.' Konkona got married to Ranvir Shorey in 2010. They separated in 2015 and divorced in 2020. They have a son named Haroon. Metro In Dino also stars Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Pankaj Tripathi, Neena Gupta, and Anupam Kher. The film is scheduled to release on July 4.

Fatima Sana Shaikh On Equation With Aamir Khan's Daughter Ira: ‘She Has A Big Heart'
Last Updated: Fatima Sana Shaikh shares that she turned to Ira Khan for therapy recommendations while looking for a therapist a few years ago. Fatima Sana Shaikh's deep bond with Ira Khan is no secret. Several pictures of them from the latter's wedding created waves on social media. Now, speaking exclusively to News18 Showsha, Fatima shares her admiration for Aamir Khan's daughter. When Fatima decided to seek therapy a few years ago, she reached out to Ira for help. 'I did ask Ira for recommendations when I wanted to seek therapy. I reached out to others too because I've a lot of friends who seek therapy," she tells us. Heaping praises on her, Fatima says, 'Ira is an incredible girl. She's very intelligent and talented. She has a very big heart and I just love her. She's a great girl. She's very giving." For the Dangal and Sam Bahadur actor, in fact, sisterhood is paramount. Her friendships with her co-stars Sanya Malhotra, Ratna Pathak Shah and Dia Mirza Rekhi aren't unheard of. 'These women have added so much to my life. I enjoy such relationships," she shares. Slamming the perception that two women actors don't get along, Fatima states, 'Yeh toh nonsense hai! Isme gender ka kuch lena dena hai hi nahi. It doesn't matter what your gender is. It all depends on how confident and self-assured you're as a person. If you're insecure, you're insecure. If you're insecure, you wouldn't enjoy working with any co-actor because you would constantly be fighting to create your own space." Fatima, who'll next be seen in Metro In Dino, reveals what drew her to her women peers and why she holds them close to her heart. 'I don't have any scenes with Neena (Gupta) ji and Koko (Konkona Sensharma. And with Sara (Ali Khan), I've just one scene. So, I can't say that I got to work with these women on Metro In Dino. But I've worked with Dia and Ratna on Dhak Dhak. Sanjana (Sanghi) was also there but I largely connected with the two of them," she remarks. She further continues, 'They're such strong women. They're opinionated people with a very evolved understanding of life and relationships. When you work with secure women – secure not necessarily in terms of their career but also in their personal lives – they've a lot to give. So, I really enjoyed working with them." However, the situation was quite different while she was growing up and she attributes it to her 'tomboy' nature. 'For the longest period of time, especially when I was younger, I've only had guy friends since I was a tomboy. But as I've grown older, I've started connecting with a lot of women. One woman I'm really close to is Shonali Bose [her director in Modern Love Mumbai's Raat Rani]. She's a fabulous filmmaker. If you follow her journey online, you'll realise that she has gone through so many things. But her zest for life is incredible. When she enters a room, she lights it up. Fatima Sana Shaikh Says She's Only Had ‘Long-Term Relationships': ‘It's Impossible To…'
Last Updated: Fatima Sana Shaikh calls herself a 'hardcore romantic' but believes that dating apps isn't the reason why people engage in multiple relationships at the same time. Fatima Sana Shaikh put an end to rumours of dating her Gustaakh Ishq co-star Vijay Varma at the trailer launch of Aap Jaisa Koi when she quipped that there are 'no good guys', thus acknowledging that she is single. But that doesn't mean that she isn't open to love. Speaking to News18 Showsha exclusively, Fatima states that she 'enjoys being in love' and reiterates how difficult it is to remain single forever. 'I'm a hardcore romantic. I love love," says Fatima, who's looking forward to the release of Metro In Dino on July 4. In her words, she's wants someone who can 'intellectually stimulate' her. 'I know that I do a lot of naatak (drama) initially and say that I don't want to be in a relationship. But once I'm in it, I just want to be in it. I enjoy a good partnership and it's very important. We keep saying that we want to be alone but we're social beings and that's why it's impossible to be alone forever. We need human interaction and conversations to grow. Aap akele baithoge na, toh aap ko jaldi Alzheimer's ho jaayega. If you don't have anyone to challenge your thoughts, how will you evolve?" she remarks. Fatima further continues, 'You may not have an 'intimate' relationship with someone but there's intimacy in every kind of relationship. In friendships, you maybe close to someone because you like their intelligence and opinions. With someone, you may have a deeper friendship because they give you empathy and love. Some friends hype you. You've different friends for different reasons. But in a partner, you require a little more than that, a little more consistency and availability." One may imagine that modern relationships are particularly tougher due to the bouquet of romantic options thrown by dating apps. But Fatima disagrees. 'I've only had long-term relationships. It's said that people have a lot more options on their plate today. But that was there earlier also. We've heard stories of people engaging in multiple relationships and these things used to happen even before the influx of the internet. It depends on your intent too. If you've the intent [to cheat], you will," Fatima states. She's quick to admit that the profession she's in lets her meet a lot of good-looking people but that's not enough for her. 'There are beautiful people all around us. We work with beautiful people. And the attraction you may feel towards them may not always be surface-level," she remarks. But a thinking, opinionated partner is way more important to her. 'One may think about how I look for ten minutes but if I'm unable to intellectually stimulate someone through my conversations, it ends there. There are so many beautiful people we meet but we may not connect with them. Where do you take that relationship then? If two people are together only because they're attracted to each other's physical looks, it may not last because you can't defy age," says the Dangal actor. First Published:
