Thunder give G Ajay Mitchell multi-year deal
July 7 - After winning an NBA title in his rookie season, guard Ajay Mitchell received a multi-year contract extension from the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday. Financial terms were not disclosed, but reports indicate Mitchell received a three-year, $9 million deal. Mitchell, 23, was selected 38th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks, who traded him to the Thunder for fellow draft pick Oso Ighodaro. Mitchell proceeded to appear in 36 games and make one start for Oklahoma City in the regular season. He averaged 6.5 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game while shooting 49.5 percent from the floor and 38.3 percent from 3-point range. Mitchell got into 12 games during the Thunder's playoff run and four games in the NBA Finals, where they beat the Indiana Pacers. Mitchell averaged 3.4 points in 7.0 minutes off the bench. Mitchell, from Belgium, played college basketball for UC Santa Barbara. He averaged 20 points in his third and final season with the Gauchos. --Field Level Media

Cyclists crash into crowd at German Track Championships
The final day of the German Track Cycling Championships was abandoned after several spectators were injured when two cyclists crashed into the incident happened on the final bend of the men's keirin semi-finals as the two riders careered over the barriers at a speed of about 35mph at the track in Dudenhofen, western spectators were injured, some seriously, with two needing to be airlifted to hospital. The two cyclists escaped with minor helicopters, six ambulances and an emergency doctor attended the incident."The health of athletes and spectators always comes first. Cancelling the event was therefore unavoidable. Best wishes for a speedy recovery go out to all those injured," said German Cycling marketing and communications officer Oliver of Dudenhofen Cycling Club, Jens Hartwig, said: "I'm shocked by the accident. We've had a cycling festival here in Dudenhofen for five days. Of course, no-one wanted the event to end like this. I wish everyone involved a speedy and full recovery."

Borak: France won't rest on laurels after victory in U20 Summer Series
An Elina Folituu hattrick propelled Les Bleuettes to a dominant win in their 2025 Six Nations Women's Summer Series opener at the Centre for Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach, Caerphilly. Emy Baudru, Zoe Jean, Tifen Lesieu, co-captain Anna Macipe and Cherrezade Saiki also crossed for France, and while Borak had nothing but admiration for her team's efforts, the prop explained her team has the potential to be even better during their second game on July 11. 'It was a really good game for us,' said the 21-year-old. 'But we will now go away and work on a few things since we have just under a week to work on the game for Ireland. 'We will rewatch the videos again to see what we have to work on, including the small details. Despite the best efforts of Italy's defence, France benefitted time and again from their physicality, as well as their skill, with Folituu's treble – all scored off the back of rolling mauls – highlighting that fact. And Borak revealed taking the game to Italy early was always in the minds of her and her teammates and also praised the performances of some of the more junior members of the squad. 'It was always part of the game plan, and we just wanted to get the head start first,' she said. 'We were happy that the girls showed up, especially in the second half as well. 'I'm proud of the girls, especially since it's the first selection for some of them. 'Everything was positive and we're really happy for the win. 'We still have a lot to work on, and I still have a lot to work on personally. 'But it's the first game and we made it pretty good out there, and now we're just waiting for the next game and hopefully we'll do better in that next week.' Ireland head into the clash with France also having won their opening game of the competition, downing Wales 27-10 in a hard-fought encounter.
