Abu Dhabi man told to return Dhs25,262 he fraudulently used through another person's credit card

The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court obligated a person to return Dhs25,262 to another man and fined him Dhs3,000 after the former used the latter's credit card to buy tickets to a UAE museum via the Google search engine.
After the amount had been deducted from his account, the victim learned that he was a victim of fraud and consequently filed a lawsuit against the defendant, who was convicted of embezzlement.
Under the lawsuit he filed, the plaintiff requesting the court to obligate the defendant to pay him Dhs51,000 as the value of the financial claim plus a compensation for the material and psychological harms he sustained and settle the incurred fees and expenses.
As evidence of his lawsuit, the plaintiff submitted photocopies of the referral decision from the Alternative Dispute Resolution Department and the verdict issued in a previous lawsuit in which the defendant was convicted in absentia and fined Dhs30,000.
The plaintiff pleaded that the defendant embezzled money from his credit card to buy tickets for a UAE museum, adding that he later received a one-time password and Dhs25,262 was deducted from his account with Abu Dhabi bank.
He then learned that he was a victim of fraud and consequently filed a lawsuit under which the defendant was convicted of embezzlement. The plaintiff stated that as he suffered material and moral harms in his personal life, given that he was the sole breadwinner for his family, was undergoing medical treatment and needed money to pay to his bank, he was prompted to file the present lawsuit.
The court explained that it was evident that the defendant was convicted of illegally using the data of the plaintiff's credit card with the intention of embezzling a sum of money owned by the plaintiff through an information technology means, as stated in the papers.
Further investigations showed that the beneficiary of the purchases made via the plaintiff's credit card was the defendant and that there was no relationship between the two parties.
As the defendant appeared before the court but did not provide evidence that he had returned the amount, the court ruled that he be obligated to return the amount claimed.
As far as the request for compensation is concerned, the court stated that the defendant had committed an error by unlawfully embezzling the amounts claimed, which resulted in material harm on the part of the plaintiff.
Taking into consideration the moral harms that the plaintiff sustained due to what the defendant did as embodied by grief and sorrow, the court estimated the compensation due to be paid by the defendant to the plaintiff at Dhs3,000.

The first is a 33-year-old Indian man, who is involved in a hit-and-run accident that left a person seriously injured. He is also accused of failing to stop at the scene or provide necessary assistance and first aid. The second accused is a Pakistani national who repaired the vehicle involved in the accident without obtaining a repair permit from the relevant traffic control authority. Al Falasi explained that the incident took place on July 20, 2025, when a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on an internal street in the Hor Al Anz area. The pedestrian sustained severe physical injuries as a result of the incident and was transferred to a medical facility for treatment. This incident occurred due to a combination of negligence, inattention and a lack of consideration for other road users, Salah Al Falasi said. He commended the vigilance and rapid response of the Dubai Police security teams, who arrested the driver and manager of the vehicle repair centre within 48 hours, demonstrating their professionalism. Al Falasi also confirmed that the Traffic Prosecution began investigating the accident immediately after the perpetrators were arrested. The first has been charged with failing to stop at the scene of the accident, which resulted in bodily injury and property damage. The second defendant, who manages the vehicle repair centre, charged with obstructing judicial procedures by repairing a vehicle with signs of an accident without obtaining a permit from the relevant traffic control authority. The prosecution ordered the detention of the accused pending investigation, to monitor the health of the injured person and determine their final medical condition, and to hear the testimony of those responsible for the arrest. This is in preparation for taking the necessary measures to refer the accused to trial and demand harsher penalties in accordance with relevant local and federal legislation. Counselor Salah Boufrousha Al Falasi called on drivers to exercise the utmost care and caution when driving on the roads and to comply with all legal and safety requirements to ensure the safety of all road users and protect public and private property. He also stressed the importance of not fleeing the scene of an accident involving bodily injury, except in cases of extreme necessity, and of reporting the relevant authorities in the emirate within three hours of the accident. This is in accordance with the latest amendment to the Traffic Law, which came into force on 29 March 2025. The law stipulates a penalty of imprisonment for a period not exceeding one year and a fine of not less than Dhs50,000 and not more than Dhs100,000, or one of these two penalties.

A cyber-espionage campaign centered on vulnerable versions of Microsoft's MSFT.O server software now involves the deployment of ransomware, Microsoft said in a late Wednesday blog post. In the post, citing "expanded analysis and threat intelligence," Microsoft said a group it dubs "Storm-2603" is using the vulnerability to seed the ransomware, which typically works by paralyzing victims' networks until a digital currency payment is made. The disclosure marks a potential escalation in the campaign, which has already hit at least 400 victims, according to Netherlands-based cybersecurity firm Eye Security. Unlike typical state-backed hacker campaigns, which are aimed at stealing data, ransomware can cause widespread disruption depending on where it lands. The figure of 400 victims represents a sharp rise from the 100 organizations cataloged over the weekend. Eye Security says the figure is likely an undercount. "There are many more, because not all attack vectors have left artifacts that we could scan for," said Vaisha Bernard, the chief hacker for Eye Security, which was among the first organizations to flag the breaches. The details of most of the victim organizations have not yet been fully disclosed, but on Wednesday a representative for the National Institutes of Health confirmed that one of the organization's servers had been compromised. "Additional servers were isolated as a precaution," he said. The news of the compromise was first reported by the Washington Post. Other outlets said the hacking campaign had breached an even broader range of U.S. agencies. NextGov, citing multiple people familiar with the matter, reported the Department of Homeland Security had been hit, along with more than five to 12 other agencies. Politico, which cited two U.S. officials, said multiple agencies were believed to have been breached. DHS' cyberdefense arm, CISA, did not immediately return a message seeking comment on the reports. Microsoft did not immediately return a message seeking further details on the ransomware angle of the hacking or the reported government victims. The spy campaign began after Microsoft failed to fully patch a security hole in its SharePoint server software, kicking off a scramble to fix the vulnerability when it was discovered. Microsoft and its tech rival, Google-owner Alphabet GOOGL.O, have both said Chinese hackers are among those taking advantage of the flaw. Beijing has denied the claim.
