Mark "Magnifico" Magsayo will once again be in the undercards of a Manny Pacquiao fight as he is set to battle Mexican Jorge Mata Cuellar at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 19.
Magsayo and Cuellar will fight in a 10-round match for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) continental American super featherweight title in the undercards of the Pacquiao-Barrios fight.
"It's a very great opportunity to fight for the second time as a part of undercard bouts of my childhood hero Manny Pacquiao who is the main reason why I started boxing,' the 29-year old Magsayo said.
'Like the first time I fought under his card when I was in featherweight class, this is also another stepping stone to my second division super featherweight world title bid,' Magsayo added. 'I'm grateful for the opportunity from big brother Manny.'
Magsayo scored a 10th round knockout of Julio Ceja in the Pacquiao-Ugas match in 2021. He then became the WBC featherweight champ in 2022 after defeating Gary Russell Jr. and won the WBA intercontinental super featherweight title with a unanimous decision nod over Eduardo Ramirez of Mexico last year.
'I would like to thank Sir Manny Pacquiao, also Sean Gibbons who takes care of my career and made me a world champion,' Magsayo said.
Magsayo has a record of 27-2 with 18 knockouts, while Cuellar has has 21-2-2 record with 13 knockouts.
Aside from Magsayo, Eumir Marcial will fight alongside Pacquiao when he takes on Alexis Gaytan in an eight-round middleweight non-title bout.

Leylah Fernandez cruises past Kalinskaya to claim Washington Open title

Filipino-Canadian Leylah Fernandez earned the biggest win of her career as she beat Anna Kalinskaya 6-1 6-2 in the Washington Open final on Sunday. After a brief rain delay in the nation's capital, Fernandez - who was just one game away from defeat in the semi-finals - overcame the extreme humidity to capture her first WTA 500 title in her first final in over a year. The Filipino-Canadian gained the upper hand early on, securing a break thanks to a Kalinskaya double fault, before breaking again with a sharp return winner. The Russian world number 48 appeared to struggle physically as Fernandez calmly served out the opening set in just under half an hour. Kalinskaya could not find her stride in the match, dropping serve twice in the second set, while the 22-year-old Fernandez remained in control, never looking back on her way to the title. Fernandez will look to carry her momentum into her home tournament, the Canadian Open in Montreal, where she faces Australia's Maya Joint in the first round. Kalinskaya, who will play against American Ann Li, remains in search of her maiden WTA title after another setback in a final. —Reuters

Jerwin Ancajas set to fight Uruguay's Ruben Casero

Filipino boxer Jerwin Ancajas is set to face Ruben Dario Casero of Uruguay on August 2 in a super bantamweight eight-round match at the Thunder Studios, Long Beach California. Ancajas, who spent time with Manny Pacquiao, Eumir Marcial, and Mark Magsayo in the lead up to the Pacquiao-Barrios fight, currently has a 36-4-2 win-loss-draw record with 24 knockouts. 'They already informed me of that fight prior to the fight week between Manny Pacquiao and Mario Barrios. All good so far in my training and conditioning,' the 33-year-old Ancajas said. 'My opponent is so aggressive that is why I must always be cautious.' MP Promotions president Sean Gibbons, meanwhile, said they are excited to see Ancajas fight. 'Finally, Jerwin will be fighting for his third super bantamweight bout. This is another stepping stone for him to fight for a world title,' Gibbons said. 'He spent his time here in the US training alongside Pacquiao, Marcial and Mark Magsayo. We cannot wait more to see him fight.' '[This is] one of the final steps for Jerwin being able to move into another world title opportunity and it is first in the 122 pounds, but he must win this fight. It is a very crucial fight,' Gibbons added. Ancajas is coming off a win against Richie Mepranum last January for the GAB junior-featherweight title. The 32-year old Casero, meanwhile, is coming off a sixth-round technical knockout win over Federico Andres Penarrieta of Argentina last May and currently holds a 13-4 card with five knockouts. —JKC, GMA Integrated News
